There is growing confidence at the Emirates that the Gunners can hijack Chelsea's bid to sign the Manchester United man. Rooney has re-emerged as Wenger's top target as he tries to capture at least four players before Monday's deadline. Wenger tried for Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez and also explored the possibility of signing Real Madrid's Karim Benzema. Angel Di Maria is Wenger's other priority and he could be on the way to the Emirates for £25m. Arsenal are due to open talks over him today as he could be surplus to requirements once Gareth Bale arrives. The Gunners are also back on the trail of QPR's Julio Cesar after his move to Benfica collapsed over wages. The Brazil No.1 who has been on Arsenal's radar all summer wants around £70000 a week. United have maintained all summer that Rooney is not for sale and are adamant he won't be allowed to join Chelsea who are preparing a new £40m bid. But Arsenal feel that privately they have received encouragement that United would be willing to do business with them.
