Florida has lost one of its major expected additions from the transfer portal, it would appear.
On Sunday afternoon, LSU tight end and former five-star prospect Arik Gilbert announced that he has decommitted from Florida and will re-enter the NCAA's transfer portal. Gilbert did not commit to Florida in time to enroll for the spring semester like fellow five-star portal addition Demarkcus Bowman, and the plan was to get him on campus in May for the Summer A semester.
"I have decided to decommit from the university of Florida and re-enter the portal," Gilbert wrote on Twitter. "I will not be announcing my final decision until i am enrolled into school and on campus."
A former five-star prospect as a recruit and the highest-rated tight end in 247Sports history, Gilbert was a star at LSU despite the Tigers having a rough go of things in 2020. He recorded 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns as a true freshman, quickly becoming an impact player.
