Former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has sensationally claimed that he deliberately made mistakes during his time at Stamford Bridge to liven up the home support.

Rudiger, 29, left the Premier League club in the summer to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

It brought to an end a successful five-year spell in west London for the German centre-back, who won the Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup with the Blues.

A popular figure during his time at Chelsea, Rudiger was well-known for his eccentric behaviour on the pitch.

He now claims that some of his more heart-stopping moments were actually a deliberate ploy to invigorate Chelsea supporters.

Rudiger cited last season's dramatic 1-0 win over Newcastle in March as one example.

During the match, Rudiger performed a bizarre jump to the delight of the home fans, which subsequently went viral on social media.
