A few interesting items can be gleaned from Jim Harbaugh’s transcript today. The most important concerns wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who, according to blog posts, established a quick chemistry with all the quarterbacks, including starter Colin Kaepernick during Tuesday’s organized team activity practice. “Well, very impressed,” Harbaugh said when asked about Boldin. “Today, you got a good look at what he’s been doing. Really picked up the system fast and (was) making plays. Big catches in tight areas. You (the media) saw what we’ve been seeing for a couple of weeks now, very good.” Harbaugh was also impressed by Boldin’s lead by example orientation. Boldin has an elaborate routine to get ready for practices that includes jumping in place and plenty of stretching. It would wear out most players but for Boldin, it’s just a warm-up. “Right now, Anquan is not a talkative guy. He’s not a small-talk guy,” Harbaugh was quoted as saying. “He’s just very serious about competing, and very serious about football and winning. I think it’ll speak volumes if the young guys observe that.” It also speaks volumes that Boldin caught so many balls in practice, particularly from Kaepernick. It proves that Boldin could fill the void left by Michael Crabtree, who could be lost for the season after tearing his Achilles tendon last week. Boldin is working out as the “Z” receiver, which typically means he’s on the right side of the formation with the tight end. This was a featured position in the West Coast offense because the Z would work in a combination route with the tight end and running back, which allowed the quarterback three options on one side of the field.
