Defenseman Nate Schmidt skipped the Golden Knights’ stop Friday in Montana because of an ankle injury suffered during his offseason training. Schmidt was set to attend Friday’s street hockey clinic in Bozeman, but his injury prevented him from traveling. General manager George McPhee said Schmidt’s injury will be re-evaluated in “a week or so.” Schmidt’s agent, Matt Keator, did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment. Schmidt appeared in a video on the Knights’ Twitter account on Friday in which he apologized for missing the event. ”Hey there Bozeman, everyone at the Haynes Pavilion and the Gallatin Ice Foundation,” Schmidt said. “Really bummed I couldn’t be there today, just wanted to send you my best. Have fun today, play some hockey out there, remember to cheer on your Golden Knights and I look forward to meeting all of you guys soon.” The Knights begin training camp Sept. 14.
