Although there figure to be plenty of games this season when it’s the other way around, the Angels pitchers picked up the hitters on opening day. The Angels managed just six hits, but Jered Weaver and a conga line of relievers held down the Cincinnati Reds long enough for the offense to pull out a 3-1, 13-inning victory at Great American Ballpark. Chris Iannetta, who had driven in the Angels first run with a homer in the third inning, lined a two-out, two-run single in the 13th to plate the go-ahead runs. The Angels left the bases loaded in the seventh – including a one-out strikeout by Iannetta. They stranded two in the 11th and wasted a one-out triple by Peter Bourjos in the 12th.
