Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus reached base three times in four plate appearances on Thursday night, but his Magallanes club lost 3-0 to Lara in the Venezuelan winter league playoffs. The best-of-seven series is tied after two games. Andrus had a single in two at-bats and reached twice on walks. He is hitting .367 for 60 at-bats in the playoffs, best in the league. Tensions rose in the late innings. Magallanes had two players — Juan Rivera of the Los Angeles Angels and Pablo Sandoval of the world champion San Francisco Giants — ejected by plate umpire Marcus Pattillo after called third strikes. Before the game, Andrus told reporters that he will stay with Magallanes if it advances to the Caribbean World Series. The round-robin event, which matches champions of the winter leagues of the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, will be held on Feb. 1-7 in Hermosillo, Mexico.
