Canada Basketball’s official site announced Wiggins’ decision to not travel to Prague, Czech Rep. in order to spend the summer acclimatising ahead of his first year at the University of Kansas. ayhawks fans will be impressed by the dedication of Wiggins, who travels to Kansas with a huge reputation and similar sized expectations. The Torontonian opted for Bill Self’s team after an intense race for his signature once he had reclassified to the class of 2013 and went straight in at number one pick. Self had to fight off interest from Florida State, who had a strong connection with his family as both of Wiggins’ parents, father Mitchell and mother Marita Payne-Wiggins, both of whom were elite atheletes – Mitchell played in the NBA for nearly 20 years and Marita was an Olympic 4x100m silver medallist for Canada. The lure of the Kentucky Wildcats was resisted, as were offers from North Carolina, before Wiggins opted to make the move to Lawrence. It will be a huge blow to Team Canada who had Wiggins represent them in 2010 and 2012, the latter competition winning bronze to secure a berth in Prague.
