The worst season of Andrea Bargnani’s NBA career keeps getting worse. The enigmatic Raptors big man is hurt again, and did not travel with the team for their game in Boston on Wednesday night amid concerns his season could very well be over. While waiting for doctors to fully assess his reinjured right elbow, the team’s hierarchy is concerned it could be an injury serious enough that some thought will be given to having Bargnani take the rest of the season off. Coach Dwane Casey couldn’t shed any light on the prognosis. “All the doctors have to get together and come to a decision on what’s going on,” he said Tuesday. “I’m in the dark a little bit as far as that decision goes.” Casey also said Rudy Gay would be a game-time decision after the team holds its shootaround in Boston on Wednesday morning. “Even if we were in a playoff race, if they were not healthy, you could not rush a guy back and risk further injuries to them,” said Casey. “That’s the way we look at that. “Rudy feels like he wants to come in and make a difference … but right when we could smell playoffs was when his back started flaring up on him. . . . Now somebody else has to step up.”
