Andre Onana's hopes of landing a dream move to the Premier League remain up in the air, even after Ajax agreed to re-sign goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg from Everton.

Fans of the Amsterdam club hung a banner outside the training ground on Monday, pleading with the Cameroon goalkeeper to stay for another season.

Hours later Ajax confirmed a deal with Stekelenburg which prompted questions over whether that would clear the path for Onana to leave.

But it's understood the 37-year-old's return to Amsterdam will have no immediate impact on whether Onana will stay or go.

The 24-year-old is keen to leave Ajax this summer, with Chelsea and Tottenham among his preferred destinations.

The £27million-rated keeper is prepared to sit tight for another season at Ajax, however, given the uncertainty caused by coronavirus.
