Anthony Davis could be very well on his way to earning All-NBA honors this season, a particular accomplishment that would make him eligible for a five-year, $230 million supermax contract extension in the summer of 2019, projected to be the largest in NBA history, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks. Davis earned All-NBA honors in 2016-17 and if he can muster the same accolade in this 2017-18 season, it would make it two out of the previous three seasons (before 2019) — fulfilling the requirements to be eligible for this newly-available extension through the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The supermax was put in place to give franchises a way to lock down their star players, allowing them to offer a substantial amount of additional money to their cornerstone player, so long as they hold the bird rights.
