Quick update from Detroit Red Wings practice today: Forward Daniel Alfredsson isn't on the ice with his teammates. General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press that Alfredsson "has slight tenderness in his groin." Alfredsson missed a handful of games during the exhibition season for the same reason. The Wings 2-1 winners over Buffalo in their season opener Wednesday next play Friday at Carolina followed by Saturday at Boston. Maybe Alfredsson won't be out long — if at all — but groins are tricky and Alfredsson is 40 years old.
