Come the weekend, it will be Ottawa and Sweden against the rest of the hockey world at Scotiabank Place. Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, aided by assistant captain Henrik Lundqvist, the New York Rangers star goaltender, stuck close to the local and Swedish themes at Thursday's NHL All-Star fantasy draft at Gatineau's Lac Leamy Casino. Team Alfredsson, which will be together for Saturday's skills competition as well as Sunday's All-Star Game, will include fellow Senators Erik Karlsson, Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek. Alfredsson's squad will also include Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux, who grew up in Orleans and starred for the Gatineau Olympiques, along with former Senators goaltender Brian Elliott, who is having an outstanding season with the St.Louis Blues and former Ottawa 67's star Logan Couture, now playing with the San Jose Sharks. If Couture, the last overall pick, was disappointed at being the last overall selection, he hid it well. Alfredsson and Lundqvist, both Swedes, made a clean sweep of the remaining Swedes, selecting Vancouver Canucks twins Henrik and Daniel Sedin and Canucks defenceman Alex Edler. While Alfredsson will clearly have the crowd support on his side, Team Chara isn't exactly full of slugs. Indeed, Chara and assistant captain Joffrey Lupul are blessed with offensive superstars including Evgeni Malkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Marian Hossa and Patrick Kane.
