Washington Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin accomplished a feat Saturday evening in his team’s game against the Montreal Canadiens that the National Hockey League has not seen since 1917. Ovechkin scored three of the Capitals’ four first-period goals, giving him his second hat trick in as many games. Ovechkin is the first player to tally a hat trick in the first two games of the regular season since 1917, with three players doing so during that season. Ovechkin joins Cy Denneny of the Ottawa Senators, Reg Noble of the Toronto Arenas and Joe Malone of the Canadiens on that list.
