The Philadelphia Flyers announced they have hired Alain Vigneault to become their head coach.

In his last gig in the NHL, Vigneault led the New York Rangers to a 34-49-9 record. The Rangers ended the season in the last place of the Metropolitan Divison.  He ended his time with the Rangers with a record of 226-147-37 over the five years he coached in New York.

Over his 16-year NHL coaching career, Vigneault has coached the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, and the Rangers. Overall he has a 648-435-35-98 record in 1,216 games behind the bench. His greatest success was with the Rangers. He led the team to the playoffs in four of the five years that he coached there. Vigneault won the Jack Adams Award in 2007 with the Canucks.
