Shayanna Jenkins the fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez destroyed evidence that would have helped law enforcement officials link Hernandez to the murder of Odin L Lloyd a Bristol County prosecutor alleged today. Speaking during Jenkins’s arraignment on a perjury charge in Bristol Superior Court Bristol County Assistant District Attorney Patrick Bomberg disclosed Jenkins was given a grant of immunity but violated that by claiming lapses of memory when testifying before the grand jury. Bomberg said that at the request of Hernandez on June 18 she went to the basement of the couple’s home in North Attleborough collected a box there put it in a black plastic bag covered with baby clothes and then using her sister’s car tossed the box in a dumpster. When questioned at the grand jury hearing about her actions one day after Lloyd’s murder Bomberg said Jenkins testified she had no memory of where she went nor could she recall where she tossed the box away. When shown surveillance camera images from a Plainville bank taken that day Bomberg said Jenkins again claimed she had no idea where she went. “She told the grand jury she dumped it in a dumpster but she couldn’t tell anybody where it was’’ Bomberg said. Hernandez who has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and gun charges allegedly summoned two friends from his hometown of Bristol Conn. to Massachusetts in the hours before Lloyd was found shot to death in a North Attleborough industrial park. Those two men Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz are both now charged with being accessories after the fact to Lloyd’s murder. They have both pleaded not guilty.
