The NFL Combine is a great opportunity for teams to get some one-on-one time with draft prospects, but it is not the only time for this. Aside from Pro Days and individual workouts in March and April, teams have had a chance to meet with prospects dating all the way back to the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl. The folks at Walter Football have put together a list of reported meetings between prospects and teams. Here are the players they have connected to the 49ers. EW is East-West game, SR is Senior Bowl and COM is Combine: Jeff Baca, OL, UCLA (EW) Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois (EW) Gerald Hodges, LB, Penn State (EW) Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M, (COM) Zach Line, RB, SMU (EW) Sio Moore, LB, Connecticut (EW) Zeke Motta, S, Notre Dame (EW) Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech (COM) Phillip Thomas, DB, Fresno State (SR) Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse (EW) Melvin White, CB, Louisiana Lafayette (EW) This list was updated on Monday, but is not all inclusive, as the 49ers have also met with Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen. Sheldon Richardson also indicated he met with the 49ers. If you know of any players not listed above, let me know in the comments. I would like to come up with an all-inclusive list of 49ers player meetings. This list is not going to tell us everything we need to know, or even much of what we need to know. The 49ers are allowed to meet with a lot of players, and they will not draft most of them. We know a guy like Luke Joeckel will not be around when the 49ers pick. Furthermore, we know that even if the 49ers moved up to be in a position to draft Joeckel, he is not a guy they would be trading up to get based on their need. Yes they may look at best player available, but they simply would not trade up to draft Joeckel.
