With the Bills set to hire Doug Whaley as their new general manager, teams throughout the league also are continuing to add and subtract from their front offices. According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the 49ers are talking with former Jets and Browns head coach Eric Mangini about a job as a consultant. Mangini works for ESPN as an analyst, but this job in San Francisco, La Canfora writes, would mostly be “to assist the offense with ideas on how to prepare for certain defenses, etc.” Mangini was the Jets' coach 2006-08, leading the franchise to a combined record of 23-25 (with one playoff appearance). In 2009-10, he was in Cleveland, but he was even worse there, winning just 10 of 32 games before he was fired.
