We have to hand it to first-year San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch. You don’t get anywhere in life without trying. The youngsters now call it shooting your shot. And that’s surely what Lynch did in a conversation with the New England Patriots during the offseason. Lynch, then just months on the job, called up Patriots head coach Bill Belichick inquiring about the availability of Jimmy Garoppolo. According to Fox Sports Jay Glazer, that conversation didn’t last long. Garoppolo, since traded to the 49ers, was not available at that time. So what was Lynch’s next course of action? Per Glazer, it was to call Belichick back up again and ask whether he would be willing to trade Tom Brady. Wait, what? Needless to say, that conversation was shorter than the original one in which Lynch inquired about Garoppolo.
