The Houston Rockets will not chase any trade targets with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Odds are, they’ll select the best player available.

After all, having the third pick in what’s widely perceived as a three-man draft is about the least stressful place this organization could find itself in. As the worst team in the NBA for two years running, they could use some of what every available prospect brings to the table.

Of course, that means they could use plenty of what current NBA stars have to offer as well.

Furthermore, General Manager Rafael Stone has alluded to trading the pick more than once. That could be the usual smoke and mirrors we’ve come to expect leading up to the draft.

At the same time, it could be more. Owner Tillman Fertilla is not renowned for his patience. Could the Rockets use their pick to go pursue a star?

Here are three trade targets the Houston Rockets should consider with the No. 3 overall pick.

Zion Williamson

Some Houston Rockets fans will balk at this suggestion. Zion Williamson’s injury concerns will scare them off. On the other hand, if he didn’t have them, then this scenario would be entirely unrealistic.

It still may be. The Pelicans enjoyed a solid 2021-22 season in Williamson’s absence, advancing to the first round of the playoffs. Imagine what they might be able to accomplish with the recent #1 pick back in the fold?

On the other hand, imagine what they might accomplish with Jabari Smith Jr. or Paolo Banchero.
