Armchair General Managers around the internet would have the Washington Wizards trade NBA All-Star Bradley Beal and rebuild. That doesn’t mean the organization shares that line of thinking.

At the same time, they might. The Wizards’ future is difficult to predict at the moment. They seem likely to offer Beal a supermax extension, but in doing so, they also increase his trade value.

Contending teams will be more likely to make a move for him if he’s locked up long-term rather than on an expiring deal.

With all that said, all hope is not lost in the nation’s capital. The Wizards have a number of intriguing young players on their roster. They’re stacked with two-way wings/forwards. On the other hand, they could badly use a point guard.

Meanwhile, D’Angelo Russell may be set to hit the open market this summer. His performance in the 2021-22 postseason left much to be desired. He’s still a talented playmaker and shot creator.

Pairing him with Beal in the Wizards’ backcourt could improve this team heading into 2022-23. Here are three trades that do exactly that.

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Kyle Kuzma, G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Washington Wizards Receive: G D’Angelo Russell, F Jaden McDaniels

This is probably the most logical iteration of a D’Angelo Russell deal between the Washington Wizards and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Wolves could absolutely use Kuzma. In 2021-22, they allotted most of their minutes at the 4 spot to Jarred Vanderbilt. He performed admirably, but his inability to shoot the 3 limits his production. With this deal, the Wizards add a solid defender who also spaces the floor to start at the position in Kuzma.
