The Buffalo Sabres made a key addition to the center depth of their organization Friday night with their first pick of the NHL Draft, selecting Lethbridge center Dylan Cozens with the No. 7 overall pick in Rogers Arena.
Cozens is a native of Whitehorse, the largest city in Canada's Yukon Territory. He's aiming to be just the fourth Yukon native to make the NHL and the first since Byron Baltimore of Edmonton in 1979.
The 6-foot-3 Cozens is the first Canadian junior player taken by the Sabres since Jason Botterill became general manager in 2017. Cozens had 34 goals and 84 in 68 games this season for Lethbridge, and was also an alternate captain for Team Canada at the Under-18 World Championships in Russia.
