Fans who came to Harborcenter Saturday morning to get a look at Sabres first-round draft pick Dylan Cozens got the one sight they didn't want to see: The No. 7 overall pick leaving with an injury.

Cozens suffered a left thumb injury when he was upended by defenseman Brandon Hickey late in his team's first game of the annual 3-on-3 French Connection Cup tournament that caps development camp.

Cozens assisted on a goal by Miska Kuukkonen and tried to take the puck back into the offensive zone on the ensuing faceoff. He was dumped by Hickey and landed on his left hand. Cozens immediately took his glove off and skated off the ice. Video from both WKBW and WIVB showed his thumb in an unnatural position.

Afterward, Cozens met reporters with his thumb inside the pocket of his Sabres hoodie and revealed he's seeing a hand specialist here Monday. But he said he's not concerned about any major damage.
