This is where aspiring actors come to make it big. Most of them are never heard from again. And then there are the Mavericks, who came to LA as wannabe playoff participants. They passed the audition. Big time. A well-timed hot offensive streak fueled the Mavericks to a 107-95 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night at Staples Center, completing a two-night sweep of the LA teams. They had outlasted the Clippers on Thursday, 113-107. “The Clippers win means nothing if we lose (to the Lakers),” Dirk Nowitzki said. “And I thought that’s how we came out. We got the early lead and when we establish ourselves early and come to play, I always like our chances. A big win for us. “On a night when Phoenix goes into Portland and wins, which wasn’t expected, and Memphis wins, it was a much-needed win.” The Mavericks moved 15 games over .500 for the first time this season. They also swept a season series from the Lakers (3-0) for the first time in franchise history. The Mavericks scored on 10 consecutive possessions starting late in the third quarter and ending early in the fourth when they went up by as much as 13 points. During the run, Brandan Wright and Nowitzki each scored three times. Wright was on his way to a flawless offensive night. He made all 10 of his shots and had 23 points off the bench. It was the best shooting performance by any Maverick this season. Samuel Dalembert was 8-of-8 against Utah on Nov. 22. Nowitzki, who passed Dominique Wilkins for 11th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, had 27 points to go with eight rebounds. “Wright played really well – 10-for-10 is a big night,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “And we needed juice tonight. It was a struggle and then in the third quarter, we got a little juice going. Harris hitting the 3 at the end of the third quarter was big for us, I thought.” “And (Dirk) is off the charts. He had a strong will and everybody’s getting behind him. We just got to find a way to keep winning. He’s been great.” Wright’s play at center was a perfect mesh with Samuel Dalembert, who had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Combined, the centers were the difference. “No one wants to miss shots,” Wright said. “We want to make them all. To have a night like this is a credit to my teammates. They put me in some great positions and made some great passes. “I knew coach was going to go to me a lot. We had some guys with heavy legs on a back to back. And I felt like my presence was needed. I knew I had to bring energy. I can’t be old.” As Nowitzki said: “We need a big paint presence on both ends of the floor. Some nights, teams really load up the strong side. So we need them rolling to the basket. If we get an offensive rebound, we get another look at it and we’re a good shooting team. They need to keep going for us to make the playoffs.”
