Liverpool fear they could be without centre-half Joel Matip for a month with a thigh injury. Matip is struggling ahead of a hectic fixture schedule, leaving Jurgen Klopp with only two senior central defenders in Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan before this weekend’s trip to Brighton. Lovren has also had injury problems this season, which may lead to Joe Gomez featuring more in his preferred position. Gomez has been used as a full-back for his club, although he did play centre-half for England recently. Meanwhile, Klopp has claimed Philippe Coutinho remains an integral player for club as he dismissed fresh attempts by Barcelona to unsettle the Brazil playmaker. Reports in the Calatan media claim Liverpool have named an asking price for Coutinho of £127 million and they would let him leave Anfield if that figure is met by Barcelona. Although Coutinho’s future is certain to be the subject of much discussion in January, Liverpool are adamant they have set no such fee. Coutinho has been a low-key figure in recent weeks with his performances pushed into the shadows by the goalscoring form of Mohamed Salah.
