Barry Brown is the Big 12's top defender.
That belief has been out there for quite some time. But Sunday, it came with a seal of approval: the league's coaches, who selected him as the conference's defensive player of the year Sunday.
Brown is the first Wildcat named the conference’s defensive player of the Year since Rolando Blackman won the award in back-to-back seasons in the Big Eight in 1979 and 1980.
He also was a unanimous selection on the conference's all-defensive team. It marks the second straight year Brown earned that honor. He's the first repeat selection on the Big 12's all-defensive team since Jacob Pullen in 2010 and 2011.
