Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez, shut down since July 31 with a sore shoulder, is eager to return for the stretch run and help Seattle "go to the promised land." Hernandez, speaking to reporters for the first time since landing on the 10-day DL, says he's frustrated having to watch his teammates push for an AL wild-card spot. The M's enter Friday's play tied with the Rays for the second wild-card spot, 2 1/2 games back of the Yankees and only a half-game to 1 1/2 games up on four other teams. Hernandez has spent his entire 13-year career with the Mariners and has never pitched in the postseason. "I'm still angry," Hernandez said (via MLB.com). "I'm trying to calm myself down, trying to smile to hide what I feel inside. I'm just hoping to get healthy and try to help, try to help this team go to the promised land."
