Standout point guard Jalen Cone announced Thursday that he has decided to play basketball for Virginia Tech — a major boost for new Hokies coach Mike Young.
Cone made the announcement at his school, Walkertown High School in North Carolina.
Cone had announced Sunday that he plans to graduate high school a year early and reclassify from the class of 2020 to the class of 2019. That will enable him to play college basketball as a freshman in the 2019-20 season.
Young, who stepped down as Wofford’s coach last month to take over the Hokies, has added a highly touted recruit as he tries to replenish a depleted Tech roster.
Cone had been ranked the No. 9 point guard in the nation in the class of 2020 by ESPN, as well as the No. 53 player in the class of 2020 overall.
