The Vancouver Canucks and pending unrestricted free agent defenceman Erik Gudbranson are closing in on an extension, TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie confirmed. McKenzie reported talks between the Canucks and Gudbranson are ongoing and a deal is not yet done but is heading in the right direction. He adds Gudbranson will likely have to settle for lesser term on his next contract since he missed 52 games last year and another 18 games so far this season. McKenzie speculates Gudbranson will be looking for a raise on his current $3.5 million salary, and guesses his ask would be roughly three years at a cap hit of $4 million, give or take $200,000. The 26-year-old Gudbranson is in his second season with the Canucks, and has two goals and two assists in 41 games.
