The Baltimore Ravens have benched starting quarterback Joe Flacco in favor of Ryan Mallett in London. The Ravens are getting routed 44-0 by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth quarter on Sunday. Flacco had completed 8 of 18 passes for 28 yards and 2 interceptions, and the Ravens offense has put up 112 yards. That prompted Flacco’s benching. Given the score and the situation, it’s unclear whether this is simply to preserve Flacco or if it’s meant to send some sort of message. It’s possible that it’s both. Flacco has been the team’s franchise quarterback since he was selected in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Now in his 10th season with the Ravens, he’s led the franchise to an 85-55 record as a starter.
