ARSENAL’S £35m bid for Medhi Benatia has been rejected by Juventus. Arsene Wenger is keen to improve his defence after a series of calamitous performances. The Gunners have conceded a total of 23 goals in 19 Premier League matches so far this season, which is the joint-highest of any team in the top seven. And the FA Cup holders are poised to fix that problem during the January transfer window. But, according to Calciomercato, their effort to lure Benatia to the Emirates failed and may have to turn elsewhere for defensive reinforcements. It was rumoured that Benatia’s team-mate Daniele Rugani was initially targeted by the north London club but Wenger seems more keen in a centre-back with more experience like the Moroccan.
