Lexi Thompson is a 22-year-old professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. The Coral Springs Florida native is the youngest golfer to ever qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open (12 years old) and turned professional in 2010 at age 15. In 2011, she became the youngest-ever winner of an LPGA event when she won the Navistar LPGA Classic. She won her first major championship in 2014 and should have added another this year had she not been assessed a controversial four-stroke penalty on the final round.

Here are the details from GolfDigest:

In the middle of the final round of the ANA Inspiration, Lexi Thompson was informed by a rules official that she would be assessed a four-shot penalty -- for replacing her ball in an improper spot on Saturday. After officials reviewed the tape, Lexi was assessed a two-shot penalty for putting her ball in the wrong spot, and then a two-shot penalty for signing an incorrect scorecard. She would lose on the first hole of a playoff against So Yeon Ryu.

And an explanation:

The LPGA released a statement:

Pretty ridiculous, this Tweet sums things up well:

Despite this nonsense, she is still having the greatest start to a career in the history of the LPGA and at 22 has already accomplished more than most pros will in their entire career. She also looks like a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model. Something the world found out when she posed on the cover of Golf Digest wearing a towel:

Here are some of the highlights from her Instagram page and pictures from around the internet.
