Zach Miller News & Rumors

Zach to the future? What's Miller's role
"There is a problem with Zach Miller's role on this team. That is evident by looking at his receptions. He has 11 of them. Now, this is a player who has never caught fewer than 40 passes in any season since entering the NFL. He has caught 182 passes in the last three seasons alone, which is seventh-most of any tight end in the league. There are currently 37 tight ends in the NFL with more catches than Miller. "That's not on him," coach Pete Carroll said. "It's on us to get him the football. He's been a terrific factor blocking and helping us in pass protection. He had a great game last week for us, but not in the numbers way that you would see." He has become the team's third offensive"
Three Seahawks starters doubtful for Sunday's game
"Center Max Unger is no longer wearing a plastic protective boot like he was last week. The Seahawks' starting center isn't on the practice field, either, making him one of three starters whose status is in doubt as Seattle prepares to play at Cleveland on Sunday. Tight end Zach Miller also has not practiced this week, and quarterback Tarvaris Jackson remains limited by a strained pectoral muscle that has backup Charlie Whitehurst preparing to start against the Browns. So while the Week 6 bye helped Seattle players heal, it doesn't mean the Seahawks are completely healthy."
Mike Williams, Zach Miller banged up for Seahawks
"It's no surprise that Seahawks receiver Mike Williams won't practice on Wednesday. He suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to Atlanta and has to go through the league's protocol before being cleared to return. What wasn't known after the game, though, is that tight end Zach Miller is also banged up. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Miller hurt his knee and ankle on the same play, and will be "slow" at practice on Wednesday. It doesn't sound like anything serious, but certainly something to keep an eye on. "He's a little sore and we think he's going to be OK," Carroll said."
Zach Miller gives Seahawks a lot of power at TE
"Zach Miller's hands have caught more than just the NFL's attention. He is one of only four tight ends in the league with 50 or more receptions in each of the three past seasons. Just don't say Miller's hands are soft. That's simply not possible for a tight end, whose job description requires him to block the big uglies along the defensive line one play, and then catch a pass the next. "You have the lineman hands," Miller said, holding his out for display. "The swollen knuckles and the bloody fingers, peeled back nails." And Miller wouldn't have it any other way. Blocking is a part of the job he embraces, and his ability in that regard is part of the reason Seattle ponied up the five-year,"
Seahawks sign free agent TE Zach Miller
"A week into this frenetic combination of free agency and the beginning of training camp, and Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is back in his old element. "We've been recruiting," the former University of Southern California coach said. "This is kind of like the old days, and our guys have really stepped up and helped out." After reeling in a promising group of free agents during the opening days of free agency, the Seahawks added the top tight end in the market, announcing Tuesday that the team had come to terms with former Oakland Raiders tight end Zach Miller. Terms were not disclosed, but Miller reportedly received a five-year deal worth $34 million, with $17 million of that"
Coveted by Raiders, TE Miller visits Seahawks
"Just when Raiders fans were starting to relax and think free agent Zach Miller would sign a deal to return, they took a Darren-McFadden-like stiff arm this afternoon. Miller, it turns out, is visiting with the Seahawks today. This could be a ploy by Miller to get some leverage in his dealings with Oakland - just to show the Raiders that he has other options. (And don't think former Raiders coach and current Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable isn't smiling a little bit if that's true.) And it could be nothing other than a free lunch, as there were strong indications by many close to the Raiders on Sunday night that Miller would be in Napa soon. The Raiders have been working with"
Report: Seahawks 'bent' on wooing Zach Miller to Seattle
"Lots of reports out there about Pro Bowl tight end Zach Miller's visit to Seattle on Monday. But the most interesting language I've seen in regards to the reported visit comes from Bill Williamson of ESPN.com, who wrote that Miller is in Seattle visiting the Seahawks, who are "bent on keeping him there." More from Williamson on Miller, who was long thought to be returning to the Oakland Raiders: If he made the trip up North, it's obvious Miller is willing to go elsewhere. Perhaps he made the trip to let the Raiders know he is losing patience."
Raiders re-sign Michael Huff; Zach Miller close to return
"The revolving door at Raiders training camp has free safety Michael Huff checking in, wide receiver Jacoby Ford out with a broken hand and tight end Zach Miller on the way. Huff will return for his sixth season after signing a contract Sunday, terms of which were not disclosed. Ford, one of the most pleasant surprises from last year's rookie class as a wide receiver and return specialist, will miss most if not all of the 3?1/2-week training camp after fracturing his left hand Saturday. Coach Hue Jackson said Ford is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season Sept. 12 in Denver. While no deal has been announced for Miller, the Raiders' Pro Bowl tight end and leading receiver"
Raiders' to-do list starts with Zach Miller
"The players' reps voted to ratify a 10-year collective bargaining agreement Monday afternoon, and now all the dominoes must fall into place quickly for the Raiders and the other 31 scrambling teams. The Raiders, who will start training camp in Napa on Wednesday, can start signing rookies and undrafted free agents now. They can negotiate with veteran free agents beginning today, but can't officially sign them until Friday. The Raiders' to-do list, besides the obvious signing of their rookies, is pretty easy to figure: 1. Re-sign tight end Zach Miller. He is an unrestricted free agent as a result of the new rules, so that first- and third-round tender the team gave him before the lockout is"
Hard knocks won't deter TE Miller
"It's too soon to tell if Steelers tight end Heath Miller will play against the New York Jets Sunday. First, he must feel like himself again this week. Then, he must pass the doctors' tests before they will clear him to play. Neither is a certainty at this point. What's amazing to me is that Miller said he won't have any problem getting back on the field when the time comes. He said he won't be afraid to go across the middle again, to reach for a pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger even if it means leaving himself defenseless, to take another big hit from a linebacker like the frightening one he took from the Baltimore Ravens' Jameel McClain Dec. 5 that left him with a concussion and"
Antonio Gates vs. Zach Miller on Sunday
"When it comes to stopping Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, Oakland defensive coordinator John Marshall has suggestions, not solutions. "He's really a great player," said Marshall, whose team hosts San Diego today. "He's a veteran player that knows how to get open. You've got to change coverages on him, put the right people on him, sometimes double him, roll coverage to him, have people around him, bang him around." The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Gates is a six-time Pro Bowler who has caught a touchdown pass in eight consecutive games - the longest streak by a tight end in NFL history. He leads the league with six touchdowns and is fourth with 386 yards (on 24 catches). And yet Gates hasn't even"
Raiders' Zach Miller gaining notice as one of NFL's best tight ends
"Getting noticed as a tight end in the AFC isn't easy, what with San Diego's Antonio Gates and Indianapolis' Dallas Clark putting up prolific numbers in elite passing offenses. Yet the Raiders' Zach Miller is making inroads in his fourth season. Word is spreading that Oakland boasts one of the NFL's top tight ends. "Quite a few of the Texans came up to me afterward and said, 'Hey, man, heck of a game. You're a baller,' " Miller said, in reference to his 11-reception, 122-yard game against Houston on Sunday. "I didn't even know a lot of them and they were like, 'Hey, good game.' It's nice to get that kind of recognition." Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt also went out of his way to"
Zach Miller looks to be a main target for quarterback Jason Campbell
"Coach Tom Cable's desire to get tight end Zach Miller more involved in the passing game has meshed well with new quarterback Jason Campbell's penchant for finding his tight end on a regular basis. At Monday's practice, Campbell twice looked Miller's way on a two-minute drive, and they connected for a touchdown on the final pass. "I like it," Cable said of the chemistry between Miller and Campbell. "I really like it with that whole group, but those two guys are really starting to develop something, for sure. You take him in the red zone; you need a touchdown in that situation. You saw who he went to." Washington Redskins tight ends Chris Cooley and Fred Davis combined for 77 receptions for"
