Xavier Nady News

Rough Sun-Day For Nady
"The Yankees were just three games out of first place when Xavier Nady came over from the hapless Pirates on July 26 and assumed, as did most others, that he would be involved in a pennant race. Instead, it looks as if he will be playing in some meaningless September games once again, and yesterday's performance at the Stadium didn't help. Nady - who has been solid since the July 25 trade that brought Nady and Damaso Marte to the Yankees and sent Ross Ohlendorf, Jose Tabata, Dan McCutchen and Jeff Karstens to the Pirates - botched a Rod Barajas fly ball in the first inning. What should have been the second out and a sacrifice fly turned into a two-run double when Nady broke in and the ball ..."
Nady enjoys his best day at plate for Yanks
"For a moment Sunday afternoon, Xavier Nady stood in the dugout not even realizing that the roar enveloping Yankee Stadium was all for him. "Someone pushed me and said 'They want you,' " Nady said. "This place is always so loud anyway, I figured they were just excited." And so it was: In the seventh inning, moments after clubbing a go-ahead three-run homer, Nady walked up the dugout steps and took his first curtain call as a Yankee. "He deserved it," team captain Derek Jeter said. "He had a big game for us." Be understanding if Nady isn't completely used to the sounds of the Stadium yet. The outfielder has been a member of the team for less than two weeks. But his performance Sunday almost ..."
Nady leads pack of clutch Yankee trades
"Xavier Nady wasn't just a trade-deadline pickup for the Yankees -- he was the exact trade-deadline pickup they wanted. In this case, "they" doesn't just mean the front office. It means the players, too. "He's one of the guys we were interested in from the beginning of the season," Johnny Damon said after yesterday's lunatic 14-9 victory. "And come deadline time, he was there for us. Great pickup." Damon doesn't strike you as a guy with GM sensibilities, but you never do know what you're going to learn when you walk into a big-league clubhouse and start asking questions. Turns out, the fans and the media aren't the only ones who obsess about the names available at deadline time. The ..."
Pirates deal Nady, Marte to Yankees for four players
"The Pirates, who are sending Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte to the New York Yankees, will receive four minor leaguers, including three pitchers, in return. The pitchers are right-hander Ross Ohlendorf, who spent part of this season in the Yankee bullpen, right-hander George Kontos and left-hander Phil Coke. Both are with Class AA Trenton, as is center fielder Jose Tabata, who turns 20 years old Aug. 12. Ohlendorf currently is starting for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He turns 26 Aug. 8 and perhaps could soon be in the spot starter mix with the Pirates."
Yanks acquire Nady, Marte from Bucs
"The Yankees moved on Friday to upgrade their club for a push at the postseason, acquiring outfielder Xavier Nady and left-handed reliever Damaso Marte from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for four Minor Leaguers. MLB.com has learned that the Yankees will part with talented right-field prospect Jose Tabata, plus three pitchers -- right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and George Kontos and left-hander Phil Coke. Nady fills the Yankees' need for a veteran right-handed bat in the lineup, as well as an additional outfield option. The 29-year-old was pulled by the Pirates from Friday's game against the Padres at PNC Park and was batting .330 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in 90 games. New York was in ..."
Mets might make a move at trade deadline
"Manuel has made it no secret he'd like to see general manager Omar Minaya pick up a big bat for the outfield. Matt Holliday, Jason Bay and even Xavier Nady are probably out of the Mets' reach, so he might have to "settle" for Seattle's Raul Ibañez or Cleveland's Casey Blake. Manuel said he is still counting on a return from rightfielder Ryan Church, who is out indefinitely with migraines. Church will be re-evaluated today when the Mets return to New York. But even if Church does play and is able to stay on the field - two things that are not certain - the Mets still need a replacement for Moises Alou, who will have season-ending surgery on his left hamstring tomorrow."
New York Yankees increase pursuit of Pirates' Bay, Nady
"Hideki Matsui's uncertain status for the rest of the year has caused the Yankees to increase their interest in Pittsburgh outfielders Jason Bay and Xavier Nady. A major-league official familiar with the Pirates organization, who asked not to be named because of the sensitive nature of trade talks, said the Yankees also have interest in lefty relievers Damaso Marte and John Grabow. "It's going to take a little bit of time," the official said of Pittsburgh's evaluation of Yankees prospects. "I think with recent events, (the Yankees) would like to add a bat." Pittsburgh wants more for Bay than Nady, the former Met; both are right-handed hitters who would help balance the Yankees ..."
Nady takes full batting practice
"Right fielder Xavier Nady (bruised shoulder) took full batting practice Wednesday for the second day in a row. Nady likely will be in the lineup tonight against the New York Yankees."
Pirates have no plans to put Nady on disabled list
"Pirates outfielder Xavier Nady has a Grade 1 AC joint sprain of the left shoulder, results of an MRI determined today. The Pirates reported no damage to the rotator cuff or labrum of Nady's shoulder, and the team has no immediate plans to put Nady on the disabled list. The club said more information would be known in 48-to-72 hours."
Nady may still land on DL
"Xavier Nady's Magnetic Resonance Imaging test yesterday revealed the Pirates' right fielder has a Grade 1 sprain in the acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder. There is no damage to the rotator cuff or labrum. The Pirates will wait two or three days before making a decision on placing Nady on the disabled list."
Pirates may start dealing players soon
"The non-waiver trading deadline for Major League Baseball is less than seven weeks away, which means the speculation on the future of Jason Bay, Xavier Nady and assorted other Pirates should begin ramping up any day now. Although the Pirates moved within two games of .500 with their 5-4 win against the Baltimore Orioles yesterday and continue to flirt with a .500 record, they are not a serious contender for a playoff spot. Management has made it clear that unless the Pirates are in contention for the postseason, many of the team's better players will become available."
Nady will have MRI on shoulder
"Xavier Nady yesterday emerged from the trainer's room holding a cup of coffee in his right hand. Uh-oh. Was this an indication his left shoulder was really, really sore? "No," Nady said with a grin. "I can use my left hand." As evidence, he shifted the cup to his left hand. All seemed well -- considering."
Bucs' Nady hopes to avoid DL stint
"Xavier Nady saw the ball, he saw the wall, and then he saw stars. The Pirates right fielder injured his left shoulder Saturday night when he slammed into a wall while chasing a foul ball. Initial X-rays came back negative, but Nady will have a magnetic resonance imaging exam at 8 a.m. today in Pittsburgh."
Nady to return to Pittsburgh for MRI
"Pirates right fielder Xavier Nady will have a magnetic resonance imaging exam Monday in Pittsburgh after injuring his left shoulder. Nady was hurt Saturday night when he slammed into a wall while chasing a foul ball. Initial X-rays came back negative. After Nady is examined by Dr. Patrick DeMeo, the Pirates will decide whether Nady will go on the disabled list or rejoin the team in Chicago for an interleague series against the White Sox."
