Tyreke Evans News & Rumors

Evans, Cousins ready to take leadership role with Kings
"It's pretty simple to Kings coach Keith Smart. If the Kings are to begin playing well and improve, DeMarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans have to play well. Since becoming Kings coach Jan. 5, Smart has seen improved play from both of his young players. His challenge to both is for them to set the standard of play and hard work for their teammates and to take steps in becoming leaders for the Kings. "I believe your game has to speak for yourself," Smart said. "And if you're playing great and at a high level every night, your teammates understand that, 'Man, he's bringing it every single night.'"
Kings' Evans receives Smart advice
"The evolution of Tyreke Evans' game can be traced back to Indiana. That's where Kings coach Keith Smart, as a college player, met Indiana University legends Isiah Thomas and Quinn Buckner, two of the best point guards to come through the program. They introduced Smart to the idea of mapping out the floor. Rather than just drive to the rim with no plan, they told Smart he should know where to deliver the ball at all times based on where defenders rotated from. "When you make a move in one area, you're going to cause a response," Smart said."
Evans finds a groove at foul line
"Tyreke Evans started this season shooting free throws so poorly that the hometown fans were booing him at the foul line. Evans hasn't resembled that player of late, especially after making all 14 of his attempts Wednesday night to help the Kings to a 98-91 win over the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre. Evans is shooting 75 percent (57 of 76) from the foul line this season after starting out 48.1 percent (13 of 27). He is 44 of 49 (89.8 percent) in January."
Kings' Evans tries to change his game
"This Tyreke Evans dance, the changing expectations of the guards, has a fascinating rhythm of its own. Expect one step forward, one step back and several steps into the unknown. This won't be easy. Three seasons into his career, the Kings are asking Evans to swap out the bathroom towels, switch from steak to salmon, and while in the midst of the makeover, paint the house in more subdued, subtle shades. Things are different now. Chuck Hayes apparently is coming back, Jimmer Fredette can play. John Salmons was acquired, Marcus Thornton re-signed, and that big anchor in the middle – talented DeMarcus Cousins – is taking baby steps toward maturity."
Kings' Evans says he's feeling good as camp opens
"A summer in Southern California was all about this feeling for Tyreke Evans. Evans felt a lot better Saturday than he did last year early in the Kings' training camp. Coming off his Rookie of the Year season, Evans took a month off before getting back into prepping. He showed up at training camp not in the best of shape, much to the Kings' chagrin. After spending much of this summer working out in Southern California, Evans said that won't be a problem this season. "I feel good," Evans said. "I definitely don't feel like I did last year coming in a little out of shape. My weight is good, and I'm just looking forward to playing.""

Report: Kings guard Tyreke Evans signs to play in Italy
"And the list of quality players signing overseas during the lockout continues. Tyreke Evans, the guard that is one of the cornerstones of the Sacramento Kings rebuilding effort has signed to play with Virtus Roma in Italy for the remainder of the NBA lockout, reports Sportando."
Kings' Tyreke Evans lands national endorsement deal
"The days when the star-loaded Sacramento Kings were perennial playoff contenders might be a memory, but a talented guard can still land an endorsement deal. Kings guard Tyreke Evans, master of the crossover dribble and bull-rush drive to the hoop, is starring in his first nationwide television commercial for VBlast, a new vitamin- enhanced water line. The 30-second spot – which can be viewed on YouTube – is premiering in the key New York market and will eventually be rolled out nationally."
Tyreke Evans wants his role defined in Sacramento
"This is another problem that can in part be chalked up to the lockout. Tyreke Evans remains the guy that will make the King's offense go next year — he's finally healthy again — and now he's got an interesting potential backcourt mate in just drafted Jimmer Fredette. Except, Evans and Fredette basically play the same position (both are shoot-first point guards, at least that's what we think Fredette will be). Evans wants to know how the coach plans to use them both, he told Marc Spears of Yahoo. "I don't know how we are playing it," Evans said. "Am I going to be the point? Is he going to be the point? At the end of the day, whatever one they lead me to, I'm just ready.""
Kings' Evans works hard on conditioning, jumper during summer
"On this morning, two things show that Tyreke Evans isn't a Southern California kid. There's the Kings workout gear he's wearing in Lakers country, and there's the Pittsburgh Steelers keychain. Besides those sartorial details, it's obvious Evans has settled into a Southern California lifestyle as he prepares for his third season with the Kings. The West Chester, Pa., native has rented a place in Santa Monica and made the basketball court at St. Monica Catholic High School and the Equinox Gym his main summer destinations.. Evans' basketball workouts are monitored by trainer Rob McClanaghan, while longtime trainer Lamont Peterson keeps tabs on Evans' strength and conditioning regimen. Evans"
Kings exercise options on Evans, Cousins and Casspi
"The Sacramento Kings have exercised the rookie contract options on guard Tyreke Evans, forward Omri Casspi and center DeMarcus Cousins for the 2012-13 season, Kings' President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie announced today. Evans, a two-year NBA veteran, averaged a team-high 17.8 points (.409 FGs, .291 3FGs, .771 FTs), 4.8 rebounds, a team-leading 5.6 assists and 1.49 steals per game through 57 outings with the Kings this past season. He was the winner of the 2009-10 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and became only the fourth player in NBA history to average 20 points, five rebounds and five assists as a rookie."
Kings should give Evans new role
"In light of the fact this is the craziest, most unpredictable NBA draft in years, I want to submit a late-game approach that is completely crazy and unpredictable, but one that makes perfect sense. Confused yet? Good, because Tyreke Evans continues to baffle everyone who spends time inside Power Balance Pavilion, including his bosses. Two years after drafting the talented freshman out of Memphis and anointing him the team's point guard of the future, the Kings are pursuing trades and analyzing prospects in an ongoing search for their … point guard of the future. That is not Tyreke. That was never going to be Tyreke. Game over. That doesn't mean we don't like Tyreke, that Tyreke isn't a"
Evans' 24 points leads Kings over Jazz
"There's no real answer for what next season holds for the Kings. First, there's the very real possibility the team will move to Anaheim. Even without talk of a possible move, there's the potential for a lockout by NBA owners. Kings players speculate a lot about next season, but on the court they are determined to show their future is good, regardless of where or if they play. The Kings ended their two-game losing steak by dispatching the struggling Utah Jazz, 106-97, Sunday at Power Balance Pavilion. It was Sacramento's sixth win in nine games. Except for the opening moments and a brief stretch in the third quarter when Utah trailed by only five, the Kings were in control, leading by as"
Foot healed, Evans steps into juggling act
"While his foot was still in a walking boot, Tyreke Evans watched how well Marcus Thornton fit in with the Kings. When Evans was cleared to play, one thing he didn't want to do was detract from Thornton's success. Seeing how well Thornton and Beno Udrih played together, Evans simply wanted to step in and help keep things going. Four games into his return from plantar fasciitis, Evans is easing his way back into the lineup. His return gives Kings coach Paul Westphal a welcome problem – how does he get the most out of Evans, Thornton and Udrih? If the limit on Evans' playing time is lifted, Westphal will have the option of playing Evans more than the 28 minutes he played Wednesday at Denver."
After 19 games, Kings' Evans ready to play again
"Scrimmaging fullcourt is a privilege for Tyreke Evans these days. The second-year guard has missed the Kings' past 19 games because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. After three weeks of shock-wave treatment, the foot is no longer bothering him. Evans was brought along slowly, beginning with drills before being allowed to play 2-on-2. Now that Evans has scrimmaged – he did so in Thursday's practice – he'll begin to play in games. Evans will return to action tonight against the host Indiana Pacers, coming off the bench for the first time in his professional career as he works his way back into form. It's the first step in the Kings, who went 5-14 without Evans, figuring out how to use"
Evans probable for Friday
"Kings guard Tyreke Evans is probable for Friday's game at Indiana. Evans will scrimmage today for the first time since being cleared to practice last week. Kings coach Paul Westphal said how Evans feels coupled with doctors' advice will dictate how much Evans plays. Evans, who had been averaging a team-best 18.3 points, has missed the last 19 games because of plantar fasciitis. Westphal said it would be nice to add Evans to the rotation because Marcus Thornton and Beno Udrih "are having to play a lot of minutes." "And certainly to be able to mix Tyreke in there gives us a very strong backcourt rotation," Westphal said. "And they can play together sometimes, too. It'll take Tyreke a while"
Kings hoping Tyreke Evans will make return on Friday
"The last time the Kings played in United Center, they fell behind by 35 points in the third quarter but won thanks to a big rally led by Tyreke Evans. Evans was back Monday night, but he was not playing. And what he saw only made him want to get back on the court sooner. The Kings were pummeled by the Chicago Bulls, 132-92, Monday night. The Kings endured their worst defeat of the season a day after their biggest win of the season, a 32-point rout at Minnesota. Evans missed his 18th consecutive game as he recovers from plantar fasciitis in his left foot. What Evans watched from the bench only made him want to play sooner. "If it was up to me, I'd be back right now," Evans said. "But it's"
Evans works out; return nears
"So far, so good, is the approach Tyreke Evans is taking when it comes to his left foot. Evans was able to do some conditioning and shooting during Thursday's practice after being cleared following shock-wave treatments for plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Evans said his foot feels much better, but he's not ready to declare himself ready to play. Ideally, he would return in a limited role toward the end of next week before the Kings conclude their five-game road trip that starts Sunday. "I haven't really played yet, so I don't want to talk until I start going full speed," Evans said. "But me pushing off, doing shooting drills and just running, it felt pretty good." Kings coach Paul"
Evans gets clearance to resume practicing
"Kings guard Tyreke Evans has been cleared to practice and began by doing some shooting Wednesday. Evans has missed the last 15 games because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot and underwent shock-wave treatments for three weeks. He visited Dr. Richard Ferkel, a foot specialist based in Los Angeles, on Tuesday and received clearance to practice. The Kings said Evans should be back on the court in one to two weeks. "We'll take it a small step at a time, and hopefully by the end of next week he'll be able to play in some games in limited minutes and progress from there," coach Paul Westphal said. With Evans slowly working his way back into form, Westphal said Evans wouldn't necessarily"
Tyreke Evans makes strides; practice is next step
"The Kings are getting closer to having all their key players back on the court. Guard Tyreke Evans will visit foot specialist Dr. Richard Ferkel this morning for a follow-up appointment regarding plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Evans, who has missed the past 14 games, underwent three shock-wave treatments for the condition over the previous three weeks. Coach Paul Westphal said Evans said he "feels good" and can't wait for the OK to stop wearing a walking boot. "Assuming everything checks out, he'll be cleared to start practicing," Westphal said. "It will probably be a week to 10 days. I'm getting ahead of it because that's not the doctor talking, but that's what we hope he will say,"
Trial in Tyreke Evans lawsuit set for July 13
"A wrongful-death suit against Kings guard Tyreke Evans and three others will go to trial July 13 in Delaware County (Pennsylvania) Court, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Evans, who is out because of a foot injury, was not available for comment before Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Arco Arena. Evans, his cousin Jamar Evans, and two others are being sued by the family of Marcus Reasons, who was killed Nov. 25, 2007 in a drive-by shooting."
Evans continues treatment on foot
"Kings guard Tyreke Evans is still popular around here. Evans spent one season at the University of Memphis before entering the NBA draft. But there would be no return to the court Saturday night as Evans missed his sixth consecutive game because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Evans said he would return to Los Angeles this Tuesday and the following Tuesday to complete the shock-wave treatment to alleviate the pain that has bothered him all season. Following the Kings' 120-92 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum, Evans described the shock-wave process of putting his foot into a machine. "It felt like a woodpecker pecking on the bottom of my foot for 10 minutes," Evans said."
Westphal fears Evans may miss more than 3 weeks
"Kings coach Paul Westphal wasn't surprised to learn Tyreke Evans would miss the next three weeks with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, and in fact, fears his star guard could be out even longer. Evans was re-examined Monday in Los Angeles by specialist Dr. Richard Ferkel, underwent an MRI and received the first of three shock-wave treatments. His left foot – which has bothered him throughout the season – was placed in a walking boot. "You don't just step out of a boot and start playing," noted Westphal. "Second round of the playoffs (laugh). I heard about it today but was pretty certain. It was getting better, and then the last couple games, especially the last one he played, he was"
Evans to miss Heat game because of foot trouble
"Tyreke Evans is spending more time in Los Angeles than the Kings would like. Evans will not be with the team tonight when it begins the post-All-Star schedule at Miami. He instead will be in Los Angeles for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Richard Ferkel, a foot specialist. Evans had an MRI on his left foot Monday afternoon. Ferkel will review the results and plan rehabilitation for the plantar fasciitis that has kept Evans out the past two games. The injury has bothered Evans most of the season. Evans visited Ferkel for a second opinion in December, when medication, treatment and a walking boot were prescribed and Evans was cleared to play. But the injury flared up again, beginning Feb."
Tyreke Evans to see foot specialist Monday
"While the media clamored to be around some of the highly touted rookies and second-year players, Tyreke Evans didn't draw the same attention. That's not a problem for Evans, who doesn't crave attention. That doesn't mean Evans was pleased with his situation. Evans sat out Friday night's T-Mobile Rookie Challenge because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The injury also kept him out of the Kings' final two games before the All-Star break. Evans was the MVP of the Challenge last season in leading the rookies over the sophomores. Evans said that after speaking with Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie, team trainer Pete Youngman and his agent, Bob Myers, the decision was made"
Cousins in, Evans out of tonight's Rookie-Sophomore game
"On the surface, the Kings' two cornerstone players couldn't be more different. Second-year guard Tyreke Evans is about as demonstrative as a librarian during study hall, and rookie center DeMarcus Cousins doesn't hide his myriad emotions very well. That's why the days leading up to tonight's Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam have been entertaining. Evans and Cousins were selected to play, though Evans will miss the game because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Surprisingly, it hasn't been Cousins initiating the verbal jabs. Evans said he hoped Cousins didn't pick up any technical fouls tonight (Cousins leads the team with seven). Evans also pointed out that Los Angeles Clippers rookie"

Tyrke Evans misses game due to plantar fasciitis, will visit foot specialist
"In the midst of a 12-game stretch against 12 teams with winning records, the Kings were going to be underdogs every night. Being shorthanded doesn't help against one of the NBA's best teams doesn't help either. So if anything could be taken from the Kings losing to the Dallas Mavericks, 116-100, Wednesday night at American Airlines Center, it's the Kings need every player available to have a chance. The Kings were beaten by Oklahoma City by 30 points on Tuesday without Tyreke Evans and had to face the Mavericks without him. Evans missed his second consecutive game with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Evans absence led to some lineup shuffling. Jermaine Taylor started his second game"
Plantar fasciitis keeps Tyreke Evans on bench in loss to Thunder
"Two minutes before the Kings' pregame team meeting, the bad news came down. They would be without Tyreke Evans. The plantar fasciitis in his left foot that has been a problem off and on this season was too painful for Evans. The meeting was 40 minutes before tipoff, giving the Kings little time to prepare for the change. The news didn't improve once the game started. Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook opened the scoring with an emphatic dunk 10 seconds into the game, sparking a 19-4 run as the Thunder cruised to a 126-96 victory Tuesday night at Oklahoma City Arena. Critics have maligned Evans for not passing enough and for dribbling too much. But it's hard to make a case that the Kings"
Frustrating loss prompted a quick post-game exit by Kings' Evans
"Tyreke Evans doesn't give the public a look at his frustrations very often. Evans, for example, went out of his way to say plantar fasciitis in his left foot wasn't an issue earlier in the season when all could see he wasn't himself. So when Evans dressed quickly and ducked out of the locker room following Monday's 107-104 loss to the Utah Jazz, there was no way of knowing why Evans passed on his usual postgame chat with the media. Evans said he wasn't set off by anyone in particular, including coach Paul Westphal, who wasn't happy with the team's execution and turnovers. "No," Evans said. "I just wanted to win." That Evans was frustrated made sense. The Kings have lost three consecutive"
Kings' defense toughens
"The Kings know Tyreke Evans can attack the basket and score. They believe he can attack on defense, too. Apparently, so can the Kings as a team. Evans is seventh in the NBA in steals at 1.83 per game. "I've got long arms, so I just try to get my hands on the ball and just try to be active, and I've been doing a good job of it so far," Evans said. "Hopefully, I can keep it up." His teammates have shown they can step up defensively, too. The Kings have held their past five opponents to fewer than 100 points. The best an opponent has shot over that span is 45.1 percent. They have improved defensively during a tougher part of the schedule that includes 11 of 12 games against playoff"
Cousins gives Kings another top rookie
"The news that the Kings' Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins will participate in the Rookie Challenge during All-Star Weekend got us thinking. If the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin hadn't missed last season - making him eligible for Rookie of the Year this season - the Kings could have had back-to-back winners (assuming Evans could have beaten Griffin). That's only been done four times, and not since Bob McAdoo and Ernie DiGregorio won for the Buffalo Braves in 1972-73 and 1973-74, respectively. DiGregorio's win capped an era of back-to-back winners. Baltimore's Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld won in 1967-68 and 1968-69. Portland's Geoff Petrie and Sidney Wicks won in 1970-71 and 1971-72"
Evans, Cousins to play in All-Star Weekend event
"Two Kings are among 18 players named to participate in the Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam on Feb. 18 as part of All-Star Weekend, the NBA announced Tuesday. Guard Tyreke Evans will play on the sophomore team and center DeMarcus Cousins on the rookie team. The teams are voted on by assistant coaches. Evans leads second-year players with 17.8 points per game. Cousins is second among rookies in scoring (13.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.7 per game). "They're living up to where they were drafted and then some," Kings coach Paul Westphal said. "And I think Omri (Casspi) was on the cusp of being on the team this year as well. Those three young players being so successful is really a good"
Griffin, Evans headline selections for 2011 Rookie Challenge
"Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans, the reigning T-Mobile Rookie of the Year, and Los Angeles Clippers rookie forward Blake Griffin, the only player in the NBA averaging at least 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, lead a list of 18 players selected for the 2011 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam to be held on Friday, Feb. 18, in Los Angeles during NBA All-Star 2011. The participants in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam were selected by the NBA's assistant coaches, with each team submitting one ballot. Joining Evans on the Sophomore team are: San Antonio Spurs center DeJuan Blair, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan, Chicago"
Westphal taps Evans' versatility
"Kings coach Paul Westphal has no reservations using Tyreke Evans at point guard, shooting guard or small forward, depending on the matchup. The most intriguing of those options is small forward. Evans, 6-foot-6, isn't as tall as many opposing small forwards. Nevertheless, Westphal believes Evans can match up on the perimeter well at forward. "He's not a big three (small forward), but he's got threes guarding him most of the time anyways, and he can guard them," Westphal said. "He's got strength and quickness." Westphal occasionally has used Evans at small forward with Beno Udrih and Pooh Jeter in the backcourt. The problem the Kings have with that lineup is the small backcourt. Jeter is"
Evans soars against Warriors, but Kings falter in OT
"This is the Tyreke Evans the Kings have hoped for all season. The Evans who had spring in his step and would carry the offense most nights hasn't been on the floor much. Evans has been bothered by plantar fasciitis in his left foot most of the season. Then Evans sprained his left ankle earlier this month. He has considered a laser procedure to deal with the plantar fasciitis, but has been able to play with the injury, missing one game all season because of it. Evans looked a lot more like himself Friday night, scoring a career-high 35 points. But it wasn't enough as the Kings were outscored 10-0 to start overtime and lost, 119-112, to the Golden State Warriors on Friday night at Oracle"
Tyreke Evans Puts Off Foot Procedure
"When reigning Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans scored a season-high 32 points against the Clippers on Dec. 27, his Sacramento Kings coaches and teammates saw it as a strong sign he was recovering from his early-season struggles. But Evans almost immediately stole the in-house optimism, saying after the game that he was considering treating his nagging case of plantar fasciitis on his left foot with a procedure that would sideline him for three to four months. A day later, he downgraded the estimated recovery time to one to two months. And now nearly a month later, Evans is unsure whether he'll have the laser treatment done at all. "(The plantar fasciitis) has gotten a lot better -- much"
Evans is rusty in return
"Tyreke Evans even had to wonder if he was himself. After missing the previous three games with a sprained left ankle, Evans returned to the starting lineup Friday night in the Kings' 93-83 win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Evans missed 11 of his 15 shots and admitted he was rusty after having not played since he sprained his ankle last Thursday. "You ever see 'Space Jam,' when they took their talent away?" Evans asked, in reference to the 1996 movie starring Michael Jordan playing against aliens. "It was like I didn't have any for a minute." Kings coach Paul Westphal didn't know what to expect from Evans taking a week off. He didn't like seeing Evans miss shots around"
Jeter gets first start as Evans sits out
"It wasn't lost on Pooh Jeter that a year ago he was playing basketball in Israel. Wednesday night he started his first NBA game in place of the injured Tyreke Evans in the Kings' 119-95 loss to the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. Evans (sprained left ankle) is day-to-day. Jeter said he was "definitely excited" about his first start. Jeter has become a key player in the fourth quarter recently. He scored the game-tying basket to force overtime Tuesday in Washington. "I think the more games that I've played the more that I got into the rhythm of 'This is what I need to do,'" Jeter said. Jeter had 10 points and four assists. He played in season-high 40 minutes, 53 seconds in his first game in"
Evans sits out another game, Kings hoping for a Friday return
"Tyreke Evans will miss his third consecutive game with a sprained left ankle. Pooh Jeter will start for Evans. Jeter is third different guard to start since Evans has been out. Jermaine Taylor and Luther Head have also started for Evans. Kings coach Paul Westphal is hopeful Evans can play Friday at New York. Evans would have had a week off if he plays Friday."
Evans says ankle feels 'a lot better'
"Following Monday's practice at the Verizon Center, Tyreke Evans didn't look as if he was dealing with an ankle injury as he took jump shots and challenged teammates in three-point shooting contests. Evans is listed as day-to-day after sitting out Sunday's loss in Toronto because of a sprained left ankle. Kings coach Paul Westphal said Evans is questionable for today's game against the Washington Wizards. "I feel a lot better," Evans said. "It'll be a game-time decision to see if I go or not. I'll do some stuff before the game, and it'll be up to me to decide on if I go." Evans did not practice with the team Monday. He spent practice going through drills, testing his ankle. It's an"
Evans sits out, hopes to be back Tuesday
"Kings guard Tyreke Evans sat out Sunday's 118-112 loss to the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre because of a sprained left ankle. Evans, listed as day-to-day, also might miss Tuesday's game in Washington. He was injured in Thursday's win over Denver. "I'm hopeful, but I'm not really expecting him to be able to play the next game," coach Paul Westphal said. "But we'll see how he feels (today) and the day after that, and maybe he'll be able to go." Evans was out of his walking boot and remained hopeful he can play Tuesday. "It's swollen a little bit, but hopefully, it can go down by the game against the Wizards, and I can get out there and play," Evans said. Evans has played all season"
Evans is doubtful for today's game, Westphal says
"The Kings might be without their leading scorer in the first game of their six-game trip. Coach Paul Westphal said guard Tyreke Evans was doubtful after he missed Saturday's practice at Air Canada Centre because of a sprained left ankle. "He's day-to-day, so he could play, but his ankle had some swelling, and he couldn't practice (Saturday)," Westphal said. Evans turned his ankle in the first quarter of Thursday's win over the Denver Nuggets when he landed on J.R. Smith's foot. He finished the game and had one of his best showings of the season with 27 points and 12 assists. Evans received treatment from the training staff and was in a walking boot Saturday. "It was swollen after the game"
Evans, Cousins lead Kings over Nuggets
"When the Kings' marketing team used Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins as centerpieces of a massive preseason ad campaign, there was reason to be apprehensive. Evans was the reigning Rookie of the Year but still a very young player. Cousins was a rookie who was expected to have his struggles and not necessarily be a centerpiece of the team. Thursday night at Arco Arena, Evans and Cousins played up to the billing. The two young high draft choices led the Kings to a 122-102 rout of the Denver Nuggets. The Kings' point total was a season high, and the win was the 300th of Paul Westphal's coaching career. Sacramento improved to 8-25. The past six games are the best stretch the Kings have played"
Evans makes Kings a long-shot winner
"It's not uncommon for a few of the Kings to take turns attempting halfcourt shots after practice with nothing more than pride or perhaps a few dollars on the line. Rarely, if ever, is that halfcourt practice expected to come in handy in a game. The Kings learned Wednesday night that practice - even practicing the unlikely - can pay off in a game that counts. Tyreke Evans made a shot from beyond halfcourt - about 50 feet from the hoop - to give the Kings a 100-98 win at the buzzer over the Memphis Grizzlies at Arco Arena. Evans jumped onto the scorers' table to celebrate. Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof knelt behind officials reviewing the play and celebrated when the shot was confirmed to"
Evans, Kings encounter a painful waiting game
"Tyreke Evans might have the most talked about left foot in town. The Kings guard hasn't played up to his standards while dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot this season. And after Monday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, Evans said he was considering a foot procedure that could keep him out three to four months. What happens next with Evans' foot hasn't been decided. What is known is Evans is coming off his best game of the season, a season-high 32 points against the Clippers. If Evans continues to play at that level and his foot isn't bothering him too much, he plans to continue playing. If he needs surgery, he'll have it. Evans said he has never had an operation for an"
Evans weighs foot procedure as Kings lose eighth in a row
"The Tyreke Evans who was last season's Rookie of the Year was on display Monday night. Now the question is how long will he stay on the court. After the Kings' 100-99 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at Arco Arena, Evans said he's considering having a procedure on his left foot that would keep him out three to four months. Evans had a chance to tie the score with 1.9 seconds left after being fouled by Ryan Gomes while attempting a three-pointer. He sank the first two free throws, but his third rimmed out. DeMarcus Cousins couldn't break free of Clippers forward Blake Griffin to complete his putback, and Evans' final shot bounced off the rim. It was the Kings' eighth consecutive loss and"
Kings hunt for go-to player, go-to plays
"Sometimes it's as simple as giving the ball to one of your best players and asking him to make a play when the offense isn't working. The Kings try to do that, but many times that ends with much dribbling and a contested shot. Every team struggles to score at times. The Kings have suffered such stretches in many of their losses. The Kings say they're still trying to figure out how to end their scoring droughts before they fall way behind. Teams with superstars know their opponents will go out of their way to neutralize that player, which creates openings in the defense.
