Terrell Owens News

Owens cancels house leasing deal
"Terrell Owens' bid to find comfortable digs in Western New York is proving harder than expected. Owens had a deal in place to lease a house in Orchard Park, but he canceled it Wednesday after some details of the agreement were revealed. Owens himself had told fans on Tuesday via his Twitter page that he had found a place to live. However, he did not give any specifics about the deal. The real estate agent with whom he was working, Maureen Flavin, acknowledged to media on Wednesday that Owens had leased a 4,500-square-foot, newly built home in Orchard Park. It was built by developer David Stapleton, and Owens was scheduled to take possession July 1. "We found a fabulous place for him in ..."
Owens: It's coming
"Terrell Owens' integration into the Buffalo Bills offense remains a work in progress, but progress is definitely being made, according to the veteran wide receiver. "I'm getting it down," Owens said Tuesday after the Bills completed the first of a three-day mandatory minicamp. "The plays are coming to me. I think the time I've been here for the OTAs have been very beneficial. I'm picking up everything and I noticed that I've gotten better every day. It's all about repetition and just getting that quality work in." Owens has attended all but two of the 12 voluntary practices (organized team activities), and has gotten in extra work with quarterback Trent Edwards. Owens said the Bills' pass ..."
Owner Jones keeping up with T.O. talk
"Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones remains interested in the goings, comings and sayings of departed wide receiver Terrell Owens. He said they still have a good relationship and he pays attention to comments Owens makes in the media. Owens is now a member of the Buffalo Bills after being released by the Cowboys in March. "I'm drawn to when he's featured on certain segments and I read carefully what's written. I do that because I have a good relationship with him," Jones said. "I'm very confident that we've communicated well. So the answer is yes. When you say pay attention, I certainly look at it. He's credible with me." Jones said he's not bothered by Owens' comments or recent posts on his ..."
When T.O. talks, Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones listens
"Terrell Owens is gone, but did you believe he would be forgotten? Did you really believe he would let you? Jerry Jones is drawn to what Owens has to say about the Cowboys from his new home in Buffalo. He knows the talkative receiver will have more comments about his time with the club in the coming weeks and months. But so far, nothing Owens has said or tweeted has bothered the Cowboys owner. "I'm just interested," Jones said. "He's credible with me." Does that make his Twitter comment that quarterback Tony Romo and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett were responsible for his departure from Dallas credible? "I know the rationale and how the decision was made," Jones said. "The very ..."
Despite Twitter, T. O.'s not bitter about home drama
"Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens says he is not bothered because the owners of a home in Orchard Park aren't interested in renting to him. Owens, who is searching for a place to live this season, posted the following message on his Twitter page Tuesday night about the situation: "sittin here trippin about residents@1 DEER RUN wn't rent 2 me b/c they said they dn't want any drama n their neighborhood!! LOL!!! Wow!!" The 4,002-square-foot, six-bedroom house at 1 Deer Run Court is for sale or rent. The listed sale price is $489,387, while the rent is $2,950 per month. Asked about the housing snub after organized team activities on Wednesday, Owens appeared to be more amused than ..."
Owens goes house hunting in Buffalo
"Now that he's got the key to the city, Terrell Owens' next move was a natural: Finding a place to live. With a camera crew in tow, the Bills' receiver spent this afternoon viewing two condominiums on the Buffalo waterfront as filming continued for Owens' reality television series, "The T.O. Show," which is to premiere on cable network VH-1 on July 27. After taking part in the Bills' voluntary minicamp practice earlier in the day, Owens pulled up at a new complex overlooking the city's inner harbor, where a real estate agent waited at the front door. Also on hand were a few contractors and landscapers, who recognized the receiver and immediately began snapping pictures with their cell ..."
Romo aims to improve sans T.O.
"Tony Romo hasn't changed much this offseason. He still wears his baseball cap backward. His comments to the media are still sprinkled generously with platitudes. He still devotes several hours a day to football. "Tony Romo is pretty consistent," Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "He's a lot like John Elway was, Jim Kelly, the great ones I've been around. They work hard in the offseason. They have a desire to keep getting better. He's the same kind of guy." But after the Cowboys' first full-team offseason practice Tuesday, Romo found himself fielding questions about something that is different - a Dallas offense that no longer includes the explosive Terrell Owens. In his first ..."
Buffalo prepares for Owens' show
"Terrell Owens will have even more TV cameras in tow when he arrives in Buffalo this weekend for the start of the Bills' series of voluntary minicamps. VH-1 confirmed Tuesday that filming of the Buffalo portion of T.O.'s television reality show will begin Sunday, a day before the Bills open minicamp. The footage is being gathered for a series that follows the day-to-day life of the high-profile star receiver. It is scheduled to premier on the cable network in late July. Owens reached the deal with VH-1 in January while still a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Producers had to scramble to change plans after Owens was released by the Cowboys on March 5, and then signed with the Bills two days ..."
T.O.'s reality show ready to hit Buffalo

After buzz quiets, T. O. better be good
"Terrell Owens showed up for the Bills' voluntary workouts this week, which is very big news in this town. Owens gave a brief, presumably voluntary, news conference at noon Thursday, and you could barely move in the anteroom where the PR staff chose to conduct the session. The place was crawling with TV news types, all clamoring to be the first one to ask "T. O." some penetrating personal question—say, how Owens has been received in little ol' Buffalo and where he intends to live. Frankly, I liked it better when Owens didn't show up for these "voluntary" gatherings. It was laughable how much fuss he caused by failing to come in for the first one. I'm sure the precious team chemistry ..."
T.O. accentuates the positive
"A relaxed Terrell Owens expressed eagerness Thursday for working out in Buffalo and batted aside questions on controversial topics more deftly than an All-Pro cornerback. Owens, the star receiver and the Bills' marquee acquisition this offseason, is participating in the team's voluntary conditioning program this week. He said he expects to be in town frequently this spring. "OTAs — I'm there," Owens said, referring to organized team activity practices the Bills will hold in May. "I've never been absent from any OTAs that a team has been a part of. When I was in San Francisco and Philly, we didn't have OTAs, but the last couple teams I've been with that's when they started implementing the ..."
T.O. dismisses Aikman's comments on his release from Dallas
"Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens talked to reporters in Buffalo on Thursday after surprisingly showing up for off-season workouts with the Bills. He also surprisingly took the high road when asked about Troy Aikman's recent endorsement of the Cowboys decision to release him last month. "That's fine. Troy's Troy," Owens said. "I think he has three Super Bowl rings so he has the authority to say that. So other than that, I'm fine. I've been called selfish pretty much throughout my career. I think I'm in good company. Jerry Rice has been called selfish before, as well as a number of other guys. You know, I'm still probably going to be called selfish. So other than that, it doesn't ..."
T.O. sighting: Owens works out with Bills
"Terrell Owens is in the house. The Buffalo Bills reported today that the team's star acquisition reported to One Bills Drive on Tuesday. Owens was at the Bills' Fieldhouse working out with teammates on Wednesday and will be working out with them as well on Thursday. The Bills began their voluntary offseason conditioning program for players on March 23, and more than 40 players have been in attendance. Most of them work out four days a week under the supervision of the team's conditioning and training staff. Owens was signed by the Bills on March 7, days after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys. The 35-year-old receiver typically did not participate in voluntary workouts while with the ..."
Witten distances self from Owens saga
"Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten denied Wednesday that he and quarterback Tony Romo helped orchestrate Terrell Owens' departure. Owens, who signed a one-year deal with Buffalo shortly after the Cowboys released him last month, accused Romo last season of throwing too much to Witten. Romo and Witten are close friends and room together on road trips. "You like to think that being here six years and laying it on the line and doing the right things mean something, but getting perceived to be in the middle of that, it bothers me," Witten told reporters in Dallas. "The people that think we got caught up in all that ... absolutely not. This is a professional football team, and you don't have ..."
Witten refuses to blame Terrell Owens
"Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten could no longer avoid the subject of Terrell Owens. Appearing at a charity event for the March of Dimes, along with NASCAR's Denny Hamlin at Malibu SpeedZone, Witten finally discussed the Cowboys' decision to part ways with the controversial receiver. Witten has avoided media inquiries on the subject since Owens was released last month. On Wednesday, he showed respect for Owens' contribution to the Cowboys and wished him luck at his new home in Buffalo. "Terrell was a great player," Witten said. "I think I was a better player because of him and what he brought to the team. His track record speaks for itself. He has been good wherever he has been. He is ..."
With Terrell Owens gone, so are the Dallas Cowboys excuses
"With the beginning of their off-season conditioning program on Monday, the Dallas Cowboys have officially put the 2008 season and the decision to release wide receiver Terrell Owens in the past. The Cowboys are putting all their energy toward gearing for next season. And they have a motto: no more excuses, no more scapegoats, no more pointing the finger. "All of that is in the past," receiver Patrick Crayton said. "As a group, there are no more excuses, no more scapegoats to put the blame on. It's all on us that are here to get the job done. There is nobody here to point the finger at. You understand the business. They made it more [offensive coordinator] Jason Garrett and [quarterback] ..."
Owens acuses Cowboys owner of reneging on contract
"Wide receiver Terrell Owens believes Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reneged on a personal commitment to keep him on contract, and suggested that the owner's son, Stephen Jones, the executive vice-president of the NFL team, was behind his release this month. "You hear all the speculation, and you talk to the owner of the team, and he reassures you, you're not going anywhere and then, out of left-field … you get blindsided," Owens, 35, said in an interview with Rogers Sportsnet, to be broadcast tomorrow evening. Owens, who had signed a four-year contract extension with Dallas last summer, will instead play with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract in the 2009 season. With his ..."
T.O.: If it's not mandatory, I won't be there
"Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens said Wednesday night he does not intend to show up for voluntary workouts at One Bills Drive. Owens gave his comments at the National Alzheimer's Association gala in Washington, D.C., where he was honored for contributions to the charitable organization. "I talked to coach [Dick] Jauron prior to the start of the workouts about that," Owens told USA Today about voluntary workouts. "Right now if there's nothing mandatory that I have to be a part of, then I won't intend to be there." "I've never gone to a voluntary workout," Owens said. "I have a personal trainer. I take very good care of myself. I take pride in coming into camp in shape. "If I'm in the ..."
Terrell Owens Is Doing What?!
"Terrell Owens declined to attend Buffalo Bills voluntary workouts this past week. This is significant as it is the same thing he's done every off-season since his days in San Fransisco. Sooo… how is this news? How is this reportable? Wouldn't it be more newsworthy if he opted to attend? Wouldn't it be more astonishing if he arrived early? And what if he stayed awake during every team meeting? What if he goes an entire season without costing his team a single 15-yard personal foul? Please, bring me that kind of news. You know…stuff that's new. Owens once made a not-so-subtle allegation of, then teammate, Jeff Garcia's orientation. Owens made some claim of Garcia looking, ..."
Former coaches praise T. O.
"Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron did not contact head coaches Wade Phillips of the Dallas Cowboys and Andy Reid of the Philadelphia Eagles on their experiences with wide receiver Terrell Owens, though both said they would be glad to discuss it. Given how things ended in Dallas and Philadelphia, one would think neither Phillips nor Reid would have a lot of good things to say about Owens. But that's not the case. If asked, Phillips and Reid would tell Jauron that the Bills are getting an elite receiver who will make a significant impact on the team. "I think they are getting a good football player, as the teams that had him before," Phillips said Wednesday during the NFC Coaches Breakfast. ..."
Bills ready for prime time
"The acquisition of flamboyant wide receiver Terrell Owens is already boosting the profile of the Buffalo Bills and the NFL has responded. The team and league just announced today that the Bills will open the 2009 season in a Monday Night Football contest against their AFC East rival New England Patriots. The game, which will be played at the Patriots home in Foxborough, Mass., is the latest stroke of marketing brilliance by the NFL, which knows that wherever Owens appears, he makes big news. The game will also likely mark the return of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who was injured in the opening week in 2008 and his go-to receiver, the equally flamboyant Randy Moss. The Bills, meanwhile, ..."
T. O. Not There For First Workout
"Offseason conditioning workouts aren't exactly thrilling media events, but there will be a bit more excitement in the air at the weight room this spring at One Bills Drive. Many of the Bills players reconvened this morning at the team's headquarters for the start of the team's voluntary, 12-week conditioning program. A lot of attention will be on the high-profile newcomer to the team, receiver Terrell Owens, who is expected to be in attendance for at least part of the program. He wasn't there this morning. The Bills normally get about 50 players participating in all or most of the program. Players work out under the direction of the conditioning and training staff and meet with position ..."
Heat Index: Wrong choice, T.O.
"So Terrell Owens is now a member of the Buffalo Bills. Brrrrrrrrrr. And that isn't the old Heat Index shivering at the thought of the icy cold temperatures poor T.O. will be encountering come next season. It's the Heat Index shivering sympathy pains for the poor Buffalo Bills now that they've signed the biggest malcontent and headache in NFL history. Yeah, good luck with that. The only positive we can see out of this is that at least it's only a one-year deal for Owens. Anything more than that would have been too much more of a risk than it already is. Controversy follows T.O. wherever he goes and as much as you can count on blizzards in Buffalo, you can count on Owens causing chaos in ..."
Gilchrist is a T.O. fan
"The Buffalo Bills' first great controversial superstar thinks the team has hit a home run by signing Terrell Owens. Cookie Gilchrist, one of the iconic figures in Bills history, is on board with the addition of Buffalo's latest controversial superstar. "The Bills are on their way," Gilchrist said by phone from Virginia last week. "When I read that news, I said, 'Man, Buffalo is on the way up because they're bringing a talent to the Buffalo Bills that the Bills haven't had—or they did have it at one time and lost—a talent comparable to Cookie Gilchrist.' " Gilchrist was, to a degree, Terrell Owens before Terrell Owens, as long-time Bills fans may remember. Cookie was outspoken. He was a ..."
T.O., Manning could headline Bills-Colts Toronto game
"The Buffalo Bills added a major drawing card for their series of games in Toronto by signing Terrell Owens. Now, the NFL could take a big step toward doing the same by lining up an attractive opponent for this year's game. Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts are the NFL's leading choice to be the Bills' opponent, according to a league source. An announcement could come during the March 22-25 owners' meetings in Dana Point, Calif. The NFL, and especially Toronto promoters paying $74 million over five years for five Bills regular-season and three preseason games at Rogers Centre, were disappointed last year by sluggish ticket sales for a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and ..."
As usual, T.O. gets his way
"ALBERT EINSTEIN said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So why are the Buffalo Bills allowing newly acquired receiver Terrell Owens to wear No. 81 next season?Last year, then-rookie James Hardy wore the number. Traditionally, players are compensated for giving up their numbers. Payment has taken many forms, including cash, motorcycles and - in one case - a week's vacation in Florida. There's no word on what, if anything, Owens - who has worn No. 81 his entire NFL career - will give Hardy. All we know is that if we ran the team this would be a moot point. Why? Because we would force Owens to wear the number that best describes him as both ..."
Bills' Terrell Owens to star in reality show on VH1
"There was never any doubt that Terrell Owens, the newest Buffalo Bill, would draw attention to the area; but now, there's confirmation he'll draw additional cameramen, too. The standout wide receiver who once told reporters to 'getcha popcorn ready' for the game, will now be the star of his own reality show set to film in Buffalo. VH1 acknowledged Tuesday that the company is in production with T.O. for a reality show that profiles his life off the field. Brett Henne, VH1's senior vice president of communications and Public Affairs, said he also learned of Owens' move to Buffalo through the media, but that "we're sure the show will tape sometime in Buffalo." Currently referred to as "The ..."
Owens fills just one hole on the Bills
"We interrupt the Terrell Owens lovefest to give you this important bulletin: Owens isn't the answer to all of the Buffalo Bills' problems. Without question, the signing of Owens is a sign that the Bills are determined —or is it desperate—to end their nine-year playoff drought. It doesn't matter that he brings a reputation as a malcontent. This is only a one-year risk, not a long-term gamble. Bills fans are so giddy they're willing to overlook Owens' character flaws if he helps the offense score more touchdowns. However, what has gotten lost in the euphoria of Owens' arrival is the fact that the Bills still have a number of issues that haven't been addressed. Besides Owens, they have signed ..."
Owens to get clean slate with Bills
"Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron says he expects controversial receiver Terrell Owens will have a positive effect on the team. "I heard it from many sources, many credible sources: People have never or very seldom been around anybody that works as hard at his craft as this guy," Jauron said Wednesday. "So that in and of itself is a big positive for us. We're a hard working team as it is. We'll become a harder working team. I think he'll be a good example for a lot of our younger players in how he prepares and certainly once again, his stats speak for themselves." Jauron spoke publicly for the first time since Saturday's acquisition of the talented wideout. While Jauron acknowledged he's ..."
Media feel Bills burned another TO
"Most of the nation's sports media do not feel your pain, Bills Nation. Bills fans everywhere, tortured by the team's playoff futility this decade, have been mostly thrilled by the signing of receiver Terrell Owens, based on the reaction from e-mailers, bloggers, letter-writers and talk-show callers. Pundits and columnists from across the country, however, are viewing the move with skepticism — or worse. "I believe in chemistry and believe in a team working together, so had I been in Buffalo, I would not have made this move," wrote former NFL executive Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post. "The good people of Erie County have endured more than 100 inches of snowfall this season," ..."
How the Buffalo Bills can survive Terrell Owens
"We, collectively, as a sports empire, have done a lot of wrong to Buffalo in recent years. Crease, Super Bowls, yada, yada, yada. All of this pales in comparison to unloading T.O. on them. Because as a somewhat direct result of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones finally handling his not-so-little T.O. problem, this long-suffering sports city now has an aging prima donna and real reason to hate Dallas. And I feel bad. So should you. So should Jerry, for that matter. The least we can do is offer an operator's manual on how the Bills can best survive a season in T.O.'s World. 1. Do not criticize him. The only exception is there is no exception. This includes, but is not limited to, when he drops ..."
Cowboys owner says T.O. didn't fail chemistry test
"In his first comments to the local media about the release of Terrell Owens, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the wide receiver was not cut because of chemistry issues. Jones said cutting Owens was more about allowing Roy Williams to become the No. 1 receiving threat and the development of Miles Austin as a potential No. 2 wideout. "I had to look at Roy Williams and the future that we have with Roy," Jones said on The Fan (105.3 FM) on Tuesday afternoon. "I'm excited about Roy, so I'd rather have him than the [three] picks we gave up for him in this draft." Jones also said it gives quarterback Tony Romo a chance to spread the ball around to tight ends Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett and ..."
Terrell Owens and Buffalo Bills: strange bedfellows
"We could have imagined Terrell Owens taking a bite of the Big Apple in New York City. But biting chicken wings in Buffalo? Wait until T.O. tries to catch passes from Trent Edwards that are nowhere near as catchable the ones from Tony Romo were. Wait until T.O. gets his hands on those run-first game plans from offensive coordinator Turk Schonert. Wait until blue-collar Bills fans get a load of his T.O.-first attitude. The marriage between T.O. and the Bills could be a short one, as well as a tumultuous one. Owens signed a one year deal with the Bills Saturday after the Cowboys released him Wednesday, reportedly for a guaranteed $6.5 million. Owens claimed he picked the Bills in part ..."
Owens' impact on Bills is beyond the field
"After a few unheralded signings, the Bills made the biggest splash of the NFL free agent season by signing wide receiver Terrell Owens. T. O. in Buffalo. The thought of that is still hard to believe. The NFL is still abuzz over the news, which was the lead story on ESPN's SportsCenter and several other national media outlets. The move has been questioned by some and applauded by others. But make no mistake, Owens is the biggest offseason acquisition the Bills have made since the 2002 draft-day trade that brought quarterback Drew Bledsoe to Buffalo. There are no plans for a pep rally outside Ralph Wilson Stadium this time around, but Owens is sure to generate just as much hype as Bledsoe ..."
T.O. and Buffalo strange pairing
"Perhaps there could have been a stranger landing pad for Starlab Voyager Terrell Owens than Buffalo, N.Y., but go ahead and name it. Detroit? OK, maybe, but still a major city. Green Bay? Smaller, sure, but a constant blip on the national fan radar. Cleveland? Well, getting warmer, which is something that hasn't really happened in Buffalo yet. No, this is strange, the first time that Owens has accepted anything less than spotlights and marching bands. In Buffalo, he'll be lucky to get a candle and B7 on the jukebox. The good people of Erie County have endured more than 100 inches of snowfall this season. It was mostly lake-effect snow, but just as hard to remove from the driveway. A lot ..."
T.O. quickly opts for a radical change in NFL scenery
"How quickly do you suspect someone will point out how quickly Terrell Owens annoyed the hell out of the Buffalo Bills principal fan base by calling his new employer "North America's Team?" The Bills are inching on baby steps toward Canada, after all, and surely he must have meant something sinister by it, right? I mean, doesn't it fit into his image as football's Vishnu, the creator and destroyer of worlds? Well, sure, if you want to see it that way. In fairness, though, he could not have chosen a town more diametrically opposed to the ones in which he used to play. Whether his choice represents a new world view for him or just a best offer (he took $6.5 million in guaranteed money for one ..."
Former Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owens lands with Buffalo Bills
"There apparently is a market for an aging receiver who was run off by his previous three employers. Terrell Owens, cut by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday and seen as a divisive force with declining skills, signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills for a reported $6.5 million. "I'm leaving America's team [for] North America's team," Owens said at a news conference Saturday in Buffalo. While he is going from being part of the Big Show in Dallas to the small market of Buffalo, Owens, 35, comes out ahead financially. He was due to earn a $3.1 million signing bonus to go along with a $2.67 million base salary in Dallas next year. The $6.5 million he will get in Buffalo next year is ..."
Bills to sign Owens to one-year deal
"The Buffalo Bills have scheduled a 6:15 p.m. news conference at One Bills Drive. A source has told The News' Mark Gaughan that the team will sign free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens to a one-year deal, worth $6.5 million guaranteed. Owens, who was released earlier this week by the Dallas Cowboys, has 951 career receptions for 14,122 yards and 139 touchdowns. He has had nine 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his 13-year NFL career."
Troubled wide receiver Terrell Owens out in Dallas, can forget Giants, Jets
"With Plaxico Burress in legal trouble, and with Laveranues Coles now in Cincinnati, New York's teams could be in the market for a No.1 wide receiver. But that doesn't mean the Terrell Owens circus is coming to town. The Giants and Jets are in agreement: N-O on T.O. Neither team is interested in the just-released Cowboys receiver, according to people familiar with each team's thinking. That's hardly surprising. The Giants have seen the talented, but toxic Owens over the last few years in the NFC East, causing disruptions in Dallas and Philadelphia. As much as they need a playmaking receiver - Burress' status could hinge on a March 31 court date in which he will answer charges of carrying ..."
Bucs not a good fit for Terrell Owens
"Often controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens was officially let go by Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys late Wednesday night, and Jones decided to part ways with not only Owens, but also safety Roy Williams. "In the aftermath of the season, we talked about change," Cowboys owner Jones said in a statement. "Some of what is changing involves the process and some of it involves people. This is a decision that was made based upon consideration for an entire team. "We will move on now with a new team — a new attitude — and into a new stadium. The evaluation process and the prospect for change will continue at every level of the organization." So now T.O. begins his quest to find a new home. ..."
Owens a player of patterns
"Got your popcorn ready, Raider Nation? Can you handle a force so disruptive, a yapping mouth so loud, an ego so obnoxious it's not only burned bridges in San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dallas but also scorched the earth? Of course the ultra-inclusive enclave that is Silver and Blackdom can board Terrell Owens. At least you think you can. Shunned bad boy finds a home and thrives in Al Davis' Boys Town for wayward and lost NFL souls is a tale so rich, it has become cliché. Yes, T.O., who loves him some, um, him, even as the Cowboys grew weary of his antics, would look awesome in silver and black. And he'd give JaMarcus Russell the elite receiver the young quarterback needs to further his ..."
49ers' door not closed on T.O.
"While putting the Kurt Warner saga to rest Thursday, general manager Scot McCloughan left the door open - if just a crack - for the 49ers to pursue another famous name. McCloughan did not rule out signing receiver Terrell Owens, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday. During an interview on KNBR radio, McCloughan initially gave a vague answer about Owens by explaining that the 49ers evaluate every free agent on the market. Brian Murphy, co-host of the "Murph"
Cloudy future in continuing the prima donna parade
"Long ago, it just became a Pavlovian response among football fans and observers - got a problem player? The Raiders will take him. But not just take him - overpay wildly for him. The logic of 40-plus years ago, when Al Davis was a mere coach, holds as it did then. And truth be told, he has never discouraged the notion. Thus, Terrell Owens became a Raider barely seconds after learning that the Dallas Cowboys would rather take a $10 million cap hit than spend another day with him on campus. Not really, of course, but nobody missed a chance to connect the following five dots: 1. Owens needs a job. 2. The Raiders need a wide receiver. 3. Owens makes his coaches weep in frustration. 4. Al, ..."
49ers not interested in Owens
"The 49ers are among at least 14 NFL teams that have, one way or another, expressed no interest in signing polarizing wide receiver Terrell Owens, who was formally released by Dallas on Thursday. A well-placed source said the 49ers' interest in signing Owens could be reduced to one word: "No." Nevertheless, general manager Scot McCloughan said Thursday morning on KNBR that "We don't close any doors" when the subject of the 35-year-old Owens was broached. He didn't say the door was open for Owens, however. A toxic presence as well as a talented receiver with a knack for dropping passes, Owens used up his welcome in San Francisco (1996-2003), Philadelphia (2004-05) and now Dallas (2006-08)."
No T.O. for Jaguars
"The Jaguars joined the chorus of teams around the league proclaiming disinterest in receiver Terrell Owens, who was released Thursday by the Dallas Cowboys. Owens won't become a Jaguar. Not even at a rock-bottom price. "No interest," said Jags general manager Gene Smith. Smith didn't need to elaborate because it's widely known that the acquisition of Owens would contradict everything the Jaguars have preached in the months following a disappointing 5-11 season that has sparked widespread change thus far. It's probably safe to say that former linebacker Mike Peterson - who found permanent shelter last season in coach Jack Del Rio's doghouse - would have a better shot at playing for the Jags ..."
Miami Dolphins confirm they're not interested in Terrell Owens
"If only for the sake of formalizing what is likely already assumed, the Dolphins will not have any part in the sweepstakes for the services of controversial receiver Terrell Owens, two sources said Thursday evening. ''No shot,'' one team source said. ''Not a chance,'' another source said. The sentiments, both followed by chuckles that sounded much the same, might be the most obvious proclamations since the sky was first discovered to be blue, given the icy relationship between Owens and Bill Parcells while the pair was in Dallas."
Class act and a clown: Holt and T.O.
"Of all the players on a football field, wide receivers are consistently the most interesting. They are the game's great entertainers, the long and lean athletes whose basic duty goes against the grain of football's most obvious violent instincts. The wide receiver is the elegant dancer who seeks to work in wide open spaces, contorting his body to avoid contact and always landing with his feet tapping delicately along the sidelines. So maybe that's why this position creates so many counterculture personalities. Sometimes that's a good thing. Torry Holt is evidence of that. But sometimes, this glossy showmanship can send a man careening into a rather disturbing place. Say hello to Terrell ..."
Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones says Owens' release was about change
"Last June at Texas Stadium, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Terrell Owens dipped their hands into a giant bowl of popcorn as they celebrated the signing of a four-year, $34 million extension that supposedly would allow wide receiver to retire a Cowboy.
