Rick Mahorn knows Tayshaun Prince's pain
"Longtime Pistons fans probably remember watching former player Rick Mahorn lying on his stomach on the floor to rest his aching back during the team's postseason run during the 1987-88 season. He was suffering an injury similar to the one that will sideline starting small forward Tayshaun Prince indefinitely. For now, the remedy is rest for the ruptured disk in Prince's back, but possible surgery to correct the problem hasn't been ruled out. The team announced after Saturday's practice that the seven-year veteran will be out indefinitely. On Tuesday, Prince's streak of 436 consecutive starts ended because of the injury. The Pistons realized the seriousness of the injury Tuesday, and Prince ..."
Tayshaun Prince out indefinitely with disk rupture
"It looks as if the Pistons will have to do without small forward Tayshaun Prince for the foreseeable future. The Pistons announced Saturday that Prince will be out indefinitely due to a small disk rupture in his lower back after an MRI exam confirmed the injury. The Pistons didn't give a timetable, but said Prince is being treated for the injury and will be evaluated further. Such an injury typically heals through rest, and surgery usually isn't necessary. But it's hard to say how long the recovery will be. Coach John Kuester was first informed there was something wrong with Prince's back at Tuesday morning's shoot-around, and Prince's streak of 436 consecutive starts ended that night in a ..."
Tayshaun Prince out indefinitely with ruptured disc
"All those Tayshaun Prince trade rumors can be put to rest for the time being. The Pistons announced Saturday that Prince will be out of the lineup indefinitely because of a small rupture of a disc in his lower back. The injury was confirmed following an MRI exam late this week and by evaluation by team doctors. Prince will continue to receive treatment. The injury is a crushing blow to Prince, one of the more durable players in the league. Before getting hurt, Prince had a streak of 496 games played -- and 439 consecutive starts -- dating to the 2003-04 season. Prince played in the first three games this season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 38.7 minutes."
Hamilton, Prince to miss Pistons game
"The Pistons aren't going to have Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince tonight when they face the Orlando Magic. This will be the fifth game Hamilton has missed with a sprained right ankle. Prince will miss his second game with a lower back problem."
Rip Hamilton sorely missed; Tayshaun on trade block?
"Ben Gordon just laughed after Wednesday's loss at Toronto when asked whether teams were playing him differently since Rip Hamilton has missed the last four games with a sprained right ankle. "Honestly, I haven't played with Rip enough to tell if that's the case or not," Gordon said with a grin. "Obviously, our guards are getting a lot of attention because we rely on our perimeter players to score a lot." That's somewhat of an understatement as Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum and Gordon have pretty much carried the offense most of the season. But you can probably make a case that the team would be undefeated if Hamilton hadn't missed any time."
Pistons' Tayshaun Prince doubtful for remainder of preseason
"That pesky little cut under Tayshaun Prince's right big toe shouldn't affect his availability for the regular season opener next week. But it's significant enough to where it will likely keep him off the floor in Detroit's remaining preseason games. Prince, who suffered the injury against Washington in Grand Rapids last week, has not played in the two games since then. He spent Monday's practice working with Arnie Kander, the team's strength and conditioning coach."
Pistons' Tayshaun Prince just misses NBA all-defensive team
"Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince just missed making an NBA all-defensive team today, finishing with the most votes of any player not honored. He had made the team the previous four seasons. Prince had 15 points in voting by the league's coaches, including three first-team votes. Shane Battier (Birmingham Detroit Country Day) and Ron Artest were the second-team forwards with 22 points, the fewest among players on a team. Charlotte guard Raja Bell had the next-most points among players left off, with eight."
New Orleans Hornets continue to be mentioned in rumored trade deals
"Although the New Orleans Hornets are one loss away from elimination in their best-of-seven series against the Denver Nuggets, there is speculation the franchise could go through an extensive housecleaning this summer to revamp its roster and avoid having to pay the luxury tax. But 10 days ago, New Orleans General Manager Jeff Bower said their evaluations will be based on what they do in the playoffs. The Nuggets hold a 3-1 lead series entering tonight's Game 5 at the Pepsi Center. In Game 4, the Hornets lost by a 58-point margin at home, tying an NBA record for worst playoff loss. Despite rampant trade rumors since March, the Hornets cannot not begin making trades until this July because ..."
Tayshaun Prince says techs are hurting Pistons
"Tayshaun Prince responded jokingly to a lighthearted question posed Monday regarding Pistons teammates Rasheed Wallace and Richard Hamilton. "Have you offered any free anger-management training for those guys?" a reporter asked. "I'm going to have to sooner or later, because this is getting embarrassing," Prince said, smiling. "So, I'll let them know in a couple days." Underneath the humor, though, is an attitude problem that the perpetually levelheaded power forward wants to resolve. Wallace received his NBA-leading 10th technical Friday, and Hamilton was called for his fourth Sunday. Both came during a tight fourth quarter of an eventual loss. Wallace got his tech even though it appeared ..."
Pistons' Curry defends benching of Prince
"Coach Michael Curry defended his move to bench forward Tayshaun Price for the fourth quarter during Sunday's loss to Portland. Curry, speaking after Monday's practice, said he was trying to find a combination on the floor that could rally the Pistons, and there wasn't an opportunity to get Prince back in the game. Prince played 22 minutes and 16 seconds in the game, but sat out the entire fourth quarter. Prince expressed his frustration after the game. "Tay has been leading us in minutes," Curry said. "That's just one game in the midst of trying to find a way to win."
Pistons' workman Prince ideal for Olympic team
"Back when U.S. Olympic basketball rolled out a Dream Team with every roster -- back when a collection of the NBAâ??s top stars was good enough to bring home gold -- there was no room for a prince in waiting. Only the leagueâ??s kings made those teams. But after three straight failures to capture gold in international competitions, USA Basketball has retooled its strategy -- and Tayshaun Prince has been one of the biggest beneficiaries."
Coach K: Pistons forward is 'glue guy' on U.S. team
"In all likelihood, Pistons small forward Tayshaun Prince will travel to Beijing in August as the 12th man, the last picked for the senior men's national basketball team. But his coach for the Olympic tournament, Mike Krzyzewski, said he hopes Prince doesn't look at his role that way. "He's the ultimate team player and a star," Krzyzewski said Monday, when USA Basketball made its official roster announcement. "I don't want to reduce guys' egos and say, 'You're the 11th or 12th man.' I want them to be a star."
Pistons' Prince named to Olympic team
"Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince is now an official member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team. Word had leaked out last week that Prince would be part of the 12-man roster, but it was not formalized until a USA Basketball press conference Monday. Joining Prince on Team USA will be LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony, Jason Kidd, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Kobe Bryant, Michael Redd and Carlos Boozer."
Report: Tayshaun Prince among small forwards on trade market
"The Phoenix Suns have put Leandro Barbosa and Boris Diaw on the table in attempts to either move up in the draft or secure another veteran to play alongside Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal. Small forwards on the market include Richard Jefferson of the New Jersey Nets, Josh Howard of the Dallas Mavericks, Gerald Wallace of the Charlotte Bobcats and Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons."
Report: Pistons' Prince an Olympian
"Looks like Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince is in for a busy, and exciting, summer. Prince will be named to the 12-man Olympic basketball roster, which will be officially revealed in Chicago Monday, according to the Associated Press. He is the second Detroit player to make the U.S. Olympic team, joining Shock guard Katie Smith."
Prince's domino effect: When he falters in Eastern finals again, so does the team
"In the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs, Tayshaun Prince was the player the Pistons could count for consistency... Then Prince ran into the Boston Celtics, and suddenly, he couldn't find his shot. After scoring in double figures in the first two games of the Eastern finals, collecting 16 points in Game 1 and 14 in Game 2, Prince failed to break the double-digit barrier until Game 6 on Friday night at the Palace."
Saunders giving Tayshaun Prince a pass for Game 3 performance
"Flip Saunders is aware that forward Tayshaun Prince shot 2-for-11 and scored four points in Game 3. But considering his consistency and production throughout the playoffs -- as well as his defensive assignment against Boston -- he wasn't ready to get on him."
Chris McCosky's Game 4 tip-off
"Tayshaun Prince has been the Pistons' most reliable player throughout the postseason, but in Game 3 he stumbled -- well, at least offensively. He finished with four points, missing nine of 11 shots. Thus, the question posed to Flip Saunders on Sunday was whether he was thinking about activating Walter Herrmann or unleashing Jarvis Hayes to maybe give Prince some rest during Game 4. "You think that, but if you would have told me before the game that we would hold Paul Pierce to 11 points, I would have thought we'd have a good chance to win," Saunders said. "So Tay might not have gotten off offensively, but he limited Pierce and that's pretty good." Prince's poor offensive ..."
Tayshaun Prince respects fellow Wildcat Rajon Rondo
"Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince and Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo share more than just their Kentucky basketball roots. While they play different positions and help their teams in different capacities, Prince and Rondo are similar in the way they play with veteran poise, and both were somewhat overlooked coming out of college... “He was definitely one of those guys that was there that I thought would be a better pro than he was in college,” Prince said of Rondo."
