TayShaun Prince News

Tayshaun Prince playing like old self for Pistons
"The Tayshaun Prince who played in January, after missing most of the first half of the season, wasn't the player the Pistons had grown accustomed to. Prince missed 32 games because of a small ruptured disc. And when he returned, didn't seem to get any lift on shots, looked stiff offensively and wasn't the lockdown defensive player he had been. Oh, how times have changed. A good example was Sunday's overtime victory over Houston. Prince dominated, with 29 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in 44 minutes. Coach John Kuester has noticed the difference."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince playing well after trade speculation ends
"The two Detroit Pistons most likely to be traded at the deadline that passed Thursday afternoon are playing well. Richard Hamilton is averaging 32.5 points, four rebounds, three assists and two turnovers in the past two games, while Tayshaun Prince had one of his best all-around games of the season Friday night. He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and zero turnovers in a 91-85 loss to Milwaukee. "Tayshaun and Rip are playing at a very high level right now," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "I think it's important that we get everybody to play at that high level." Hamilton said he still feels the effects of a severely sprained ankle that he suffered in ..."
Tayshaun Prince, Jonas Jerebko lead the way
"Tayshaun Prince is healthy and it's showing. Jonas Jerebko is playing like a rookie who wants to stay in the starting lineup permanently at power forward. The two combined to have a big game against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night in a 108-85 victory at the Palace. It was the first time the Pistons scored 100 points in regulation since Dec. 12, when they beat Golden State, 104-95. Prince had a hot first half with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Jerebko was better, making seven of eight shots for 15 points. Jerebko finished with 21 points to lead the team, making nine of 13 field goal attempts."
If Pistons are rebuilding, the time for moves is now
"Richard Hamilton wants to retire as a member of the Pistons. But is that realistic in today's NBA? The Pistons are rebuilding, their dominance of the East over. And in that mind-set, Hamilton and possibly Tayshaun Prince, cornerstones of the dynasty, could see themselves wearing something other than the Pistons' colors. Hamilton and Prince are the most likely players to be traded before Thursday's deadline, although Pistons president Joe Dumars insists he wants to take a longer look at his team that has been devastated by injuries, before making any decisions."
Pistons Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince at center of trade rumors
"There's a rumor a minute right now in the NBA, with Thursday's trade deadline approaching. Out of Cleveland there's a report the Pistons would be part of a three-team deal in which Richard Hamilton would land with the Cavaliers. But there's no mention of who the Pistons or Rockets, the third team in the deal, would get in return. Cleveland is known to want to get bigger -- Indiana's Troy Murphy and Washington's Antawn Jamison are possibilities -- but the 6-foot-7 Hamilton doesn't fit the Cavs' needs."
Tayshaun Prince out; no Pistons in 27-player pool for U.S. national team
"LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant and most of the reigning Olympic gold medalists could be back in U.S. uniforms this summer. If not, USA Basketball thinks it has plenty of players who can replace them. The Americans announced 27 players today for the national team pool that will be used tothe rosters for this summer's world championships and the 2012 Olympics in London. It features nine players who stood atop the medals platform in Beijing and a number of emerging young stars ready for their chance. "The pool is better than the one we had in the last quadrant, and the interest level is higher, and so we feel like we're moving in the right direction," U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski said ..."
Despite Prince's efforts, Pistons bow down to Kings
"Kevin Martin scored 26 points and Beno Udrih added 22 as the Pistons lost to the Kings, 103-97, tonight at the Palace. FOLLOW THE GAME HERE "Udrih just lit us up," Pistons coach John Kuester said. Udrih scored 18 of his 22 in the first half. "He barely played in New York, but he was great tonight. Guys like that are in the NBA for a reason, and you have to respect them." Tayshaun Prince scored 23 points and Rodney Stuckey had 17 points and eight assists. Richard Hamilton scored 14, Charlie Villanueva 11 and Jonas Jerebko 10. Andres Nocioni and Tyreke Evans each scored 13 points. The Kings shot 51% (39-for-76) from the field. Detroit shot only 41% (35-for-86). Down six with 3:11 left, ..."
2008 Olympian Tayshaun Prince not on U.S. national team
"The U.S. basketball national team roster was revealed Wednesday, and the Pistons' Tayshaun Prince, a member of the 2008 Olympic team, was not on it. Prince has battled injuries this season and has played in just 18 games, averaging 9.7 points and 4.3 rebounds. Others who played in the Beijing Games who are not on the national team are Jason Kidd and Michael Redd. Kidd said previously he was retiring from international competition. The players chosen Wednesday will be candidates for this summer's world championships and the 2012 Olympics in London."
Tayshaun Prince not worried about trade rumors
"Tayshaun Prince hears the trade rumors, but he doesn't pay attention to them. His family, well, that's a different story. His family and friends in Los Angeles constantly are checking in, wondering if the latest rumor is true. "There was some talk last year and the year before, but so much more this year and that's why it's been bothering them," said Prince, who appears expendable because of his contract status (one year left, while making $11 million per season). "Last year there were reports of me going to L.A., and they were going crazy about that. It's just part of the business and we'll see what happens." The trade deadline is Feb. 18 and Prince's name has been linked to several ..."
Pistons' Tayshaun Prince isn't bothered by trade rumors
"The Pistons' Tayshaun Prince hears about the trade rumors but doesn't pay attention to them. But his family, well, that's a different story. Price's family and friends back in Los Angeles are constantly checking in with him, asking about the rumors. "There was some talk last year, and the year before, but so much more this year, and that's why it's been bothering them," said Prince, who appears expendable because of his contract status (one year remaining, $11 million). "Last year there were reports of me going to L.A. and they were going crazy about that. It's just part of the business and we'll see what happens."
Pistons' Tayshaun Prince shrugs off bad press
"It was time for a discussion with the media, and the guest speaker was Tayshaun Prince. Standing in front of an abnormally large (for this season) contingent of newspaper and TV reporters after practice Thursday, Prince was asked how he was holding up with the Pistons so far back in the playoff chase. "The thing about it is we haven't been looking at it," he said. "Even when we were having great records we wasn't looking at it, but we knew where we were because what everybody was saying on TV." Understandable, since the Pistons, a playoff participant for eight straight seasons, take a 16-31 record into tonight's game at Indianapolis. Since the Pistons have struggled, they aren't as ..."
Prince earns coach's praise for his play in win against Nets
"It had been a while since the Detroit Pistons had won a game. But not nearly as long as it had been since Tayshaun Prince had tasted victory. When the Pistons edged the New Jersey Nets, 97-93, on Tuesday night, they ended a five-game losing streak. It also marked the first time the Pistons had won with Prince on the court since they routed Memphis 96-74 in the season opener in October. Prince has played in only 15 games this season because of back and knee problems. The Pistons had lost 13 consecutive games in which Prince played before Tuesday's win. After practice Wednesday, Pistons coach John Kuester sang the praises of Prince, who had 15 points and eight rebounds against the Nets. ..."
Rick Mahorn laughs off Tayshaun Prince dispute
"Pistons broadcaster Rick Mahorn has seen every sideline and dressing room explosion imaginable. That's why he chuckled when he heard some fans scream Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince should be traded after an emotional verbal altercation with head coach John Kuester last week. Mahorn played during the Bad Boys era under the late Chuck Daly, who is considered the best coach in Pistons history. During his nine years with the Pistons, Daly got into heated sideline discussions with John Salley, Adrian Dantley and Isiah Thomas. Daly said NBA teams were like live volcanoes. Now and then they will rumble and explode because of the emotions of the game. "These are grown men," Mahorn said. "You are ..."
Tayshaun Prince's plight proves it's time to move on
"The Pistons lost twice at home, but, the biggest thing from the weekend was the spat between John Kuester and Tayshaun Prince. Big deal or just something to overlook? Here's your alarming Pistons stat for the day. Their record with Prince in the lineup is 1-10. The one win came in the season opener in Memphis. So really, Prince is on a personal 10-game losing streak. That's one of those stats that's not as simple as it sounds. (He's playing hurt, he's rehabbing, he doesn't have chemistry yet with the players around him etc.) But he's the anti-Jason Kidd right now. Wherever Kidd goes, his teams win. Whenever Prince plays this year, his team loses."
Kuester, Prince put aside their differences
"During several stoppages in play in Saturday's loss, Tayshaun Prince would look over to the Pistons' bench for clarification. And coach John Kuester would nod his head in affirmation. So it appears that whatever Prince and Kuester argued about near the end of Friday night's blowout loss to the Pacers was put to rest. "It was something that just happened during the course of the game, and we had our differences at that time," Prince said after Saturday's loss to the Blazers. "Obviously we were down 20 points at the time and it could all be a part of that. "You move on from it, and you have more games to play." Prince and Kuester would not reveal what was the actual issue, but both alluded ..."
John Kuester on exchange with Tayshaun Prince: 'Basketball is a passionate game'
"A day after Detroit Pistons coach John Kuester and forward Tayshaun Prince had a heated verbal exchange during a game, Kuester wrote it off as an emotional discussion between two people who share the same goal: winning. "This is a passionate game," Kuester said about 90 minutes before the Pistons played the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night. "You've got to play this game with emotion. Emotions do carry over sometimes, but you've got to be poised also. You've got to understand how you need to express that emotion, whether it be in a game or practice. "Hey, listen, you'd rather have guys that want to win, and that's what I know Tayshaun wants to do is win." Prince and Kuester ..."
Pistons coach John Kuester plays down argument with Tayshaun Prince
"After the daily injury update, the question was asked of Pistons coach John Kuester. What happened between you and Tayshaun Prince on Friday night? It was the first time Kuester had a chance to share his thoughts with the media on the verbal confrontation he had with Prince midway through the fourth quarter of the embarrassing home loss to the lowly Pacers. Prince didn't elaborate on the exchange held near the Pistons' bench, only to say that there wouldn't be any issue going forward. Kuester also didn't want to reveal what caused the clearly visible argument but agreed with Prince that it was a thing of the past. "He expressed a couple thoughts and I expressed a couple thoughts. That was ..."
Pistons coach, Tayshaun Prince ready to move past verbal spat
"Detroit coach John Kuester addressed Friday night's verbal spat with forward Tayshaun Prince before Saturday's game against Portland. "This is an emotional game," Kuester said. "It wasn't anything that escalated. He wanted to win and he expressed a couple thoughts." With seven minutes left and the Pistons trailing the Pacers by 23 points, Kuester had seen enough and pulled Prince, Richard Hamilton and Charlie Villanueva. Prince and Kuester then got into a verbal quarrel and Prince had to be restrained by teammates. Kuester downplayed the incident, but defended his actions to empty the bench. "You can sense a change had to be made and that's when I decided to make that move," Kuester ..."
Tayshaun Prince back in starting lineup tonight for Pistons
"Tayshaun Prince back in Pistons' starting lineup Detroit Pistons coach John Kuester let forward Tayshaun Prince decide whether to start or come off the bench. Prince chose to start, so that's what he did Friday night for Detroit's game against the Indiana Pacers. Prince had been battling a left knee injury and hadn't played since a 104-94 loss to Philadelphia on Jan. 9. "Tayshaun's got so much history here," Kuester said. "He's been of the true leaders and one of the great players for this franchise. This is the first time he's ever had to go through this, and this has been very challenging for him. "We talked the other day, and I said, 'Listen, you just tell me when you're ready to go.' ..."
Restoring Prince will be a gradual process
"Tayshaun Prince returned to the Pistons' lineup Friday night against the Pacers, and coach John Kuester plans on keeping him there. Kuester will monitor Prince's minutes closely for now to try to avoid Prince injuring himself the way he did earlier this season after he missed a substantial number of games. Prince played 24 minutes in Friday's 105-93 loss and scored seven points with six rebounds. "I've got something in my mind I want to keep it at," Kuester said in his Palace office before the game. "I really don't want to divulge because it's hard to stay (within the parameters)." After a pause, he said: "We'll monitor his minutes." Prince played the first three games of the season before ..."
Tayshaun Prince returns, starts for Pistons
"There was one fewer Piston in dress clothes on the bench Friday. Tayshaun Prince returned to the lineup against the Indiana Pacers after having not played since Jan. 9 because of a knee injury. After what coach John Kuester called a "chipper" practice on Thursday, Prince declared himself ready. "He was real aggressive and that was important," Kuester said. "The decision was going to be his. This is the first time he's had to go through something like this (injuries forcing Prince to the bench) and it's been a challenge." Prince missed nearly the first two months of the season with a ruptured disc in his back after playing the first three games of the season. When he returned, for six ..."
Tayshaun Prince returns, tempers flare, Pistons lose
"The Pistons have had a few of these this season. Another ugly loss, this time 105-93 to the lowly Indiana Pacers, a game in which the Pacers led by as many as 18 in the first half and cruised. It was a bad effort by the Pistons -- little effort at all, really -- and mystifying considering the Pistons had played so well in their victory over the Celtics Wednesday and won five of six games. Friday's loss pretty much left coach John Kuester speechless and befuddled. Kuester's news conference lasted less than a minute. Were you upset with the effort tonight? "No question, it was disappointing. We had played very hard four out of the last five games, and this was a disappointing effort," ..."
Might the Pistons swap Prince for Memphis' Rudy Gay?
"ESPN.com's Chad Ford floated an interesting trade possibility today (warning: it's a subscription-only link). He thinks the Pistons might be a good fit for Rudy Gay, who is on Memphis' trading block. Citing unnamed NBA general managers who have spoken to the Grizzlies, Ford says Memphis is concerned about losing Gay as a restricted free agent this summer and also thinks it's one defensive presence away from being a playoff team. He goes on to say that the Pistons have been looking to move small forward Tayshaun Prince, who seemingly would provide what Memphis is looking for, but Detroit might have to throw in a first-round draft pick to make the trade more enticing."
Lots of broken down Pistons
"Richard Hamilton (stomach illness) and Chris Wilcox (back) are probable, while Ben Gordon (strained right groin) and Tayshaun Prince (left knee) will be game-time decisions. Will Bynum (left ankle) is listed as out. Kevin Garnett (knee) practiced Tuesday and will travel to Detroit for the game, but he is not expected to play against the Pistons."
Tayshaun Prince just might be trade bait
"If you're covering the Pistons, you're sure to get a pile of suggestions as to which player to trade. Pretty much everyone has been mentioned recently. And considering the way this team has played, that's no surprise. Richard Hamilton is a leading target, if that's the right word. Heck, even last summer's free agent acquisitions, Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva, have gained steam. Neither has done the job, in the eyes of the fans. Then, there's Tayshaun Prince. He, too, has been a top target. And, I happen to agree. Rookies Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko are playing with as much effort and passion as anyone on the roster. Now, whether they will ever develop into star players remains to ..."
Prince's and Gordon's status for tonight unknown
"The Pistons were without Tayshaun Prince, who was ruled out before the game because of a sore left knee. They lost Gordon after six minutes of playing time to a strained right groin. Both players' status for tonight is unknown. "I'm hoping for a speedy recovery," Gordon said. "Obviously, I wasn't able to play much tonight at all. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll have better luck.""
Is Tayshaun Prince the NBA's best perimeter defender?
"Think about Tayshaun Prince's basketball attributes and you'll sooner or later cross paths with the idea that he's a really good defender. Whether you think his reputation has been inflated due to an incredible block 5 1/2 years ago or not, he's regarded as the Pistons' best perimeter defender and has been so for most of his NBA career. He's also regarded as one of the premier defenders in the NBA, but is he the best at guarding shooting guards and small forwards? Foxsports.com's Charley Rosen tackled this question from a reader, throwing Lakers forward Ron Artest and Rockets guard (and Birmingham Detroit Country Day alum) Shane Battier into the mix. Here's a taste of what he said: ..."
Tayshaun Prince is finally back
"Midway through the third quarter, Chris Bosh caught the ball on the block and then turned to face up Tayshaun Prince at the Air Canada Centre. He pump-faked and tried to get to the basket, but Prince didn't take the fake, stayed with the drive and drew the charge. There was an officials time-out and Prince was greeted by a lively Pistons bench, drawing backslaps and head taps as he sat down. Yeah, he was missed. The Pistons went on totheir seventh straight game -- a 102-95 loss to the Raptors on Sunday -- but Prince and the team were glad he was finally back in the lineup after missing 26 games because of a ruptured disk. He only played 26 minutes as the plan is to ease him back in, but he ..."
Prince, Hamilton back in starting lineup for Pistons
"For the first time since opening night, the Pistons are playing with their full roster. Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince were in the starting lineup against the Raptors and Ben Gordon came off the bench. Charlie Villanueva also entered the game in the first quarter, despite lingering pain in his right heel. Prince (ruptured disc) had only played in the first three games of the season. Hamilton (ankle, hamstring) and Gordon (left ankle) have been in and out of the lineup. With the Pistons mired in a six-game losing streak, the atmosphere at practice Saturday and before Sunday's game has been lifted by the presence of the injured players returning."
Tayshaun Prince back in practice, likely to play today
"He was definitely a sight for sore eyes in Saturday's Pistons practice. Small forward Tayshaun Prince, who has missed the last 26 games with a small ruptured disk in his lower back, was a full participant for the first time since he left the lineup. And if there aren't any setbacks, he will likely be in the starting lineup today when the Pistons travel to Toronto and try to halt a six-game losing streak that has seen them plummet in the Eastern Conference standings. "It's sore as usual, bumps and bruises trying to get back in the first practice," said Prince, whose return seemed to energize a team which has lacked passion its past few games. "But it felt good. "Sometimes you think it's a ..."
Pistons injured players...some will play, some will not
"Charlie Villanueva said he will play Tuesday despite plantar fasciitis, while Will Bynum said he will play despite tweaking an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to the Lakers. "It's frustrating because there's a sharp pain every step I make," Villanueva said. "I can't really move out there. I'm very limited." Villanueva suffered a broken nose this month, but has stopped wearing his protective mask. "I'm done with the mask," Villanueva said. "I graduated from the mask. I'm done with it.""
Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton near return
"Maybe, just maybe, the Pistons are going to see their roster healthy again. Tayshaun Prince (small ruptured disc) and Richard Hamilton (severely sprained right ankle) continue to do a little more in practice each day. Prince, especially, seems to be moving more freely. Neither has gone through a full practice, but they're getting to that point. "It is optimistic," coach John Kuester said. "Seeing them on the floor and doing things (strength and conditioning coach) Arnie (Kander) has them doing, certainly they're getting close. "Unfortunately, right now we don't have a lot of time for practice, and we're in and out (of cities). They're starting to get involved in some of it, Tayshaun ..."
Hamilton, Prince and Charlie V close to returning for Pistons
"Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton (ankle) was on the practice court this afternoon. So was forward Tayshaun Prince (back). That was the good news. The bad news: both Ben Gordon (left ankle) and super sub Will Bynum (right ankle) were sitting with their feet in ice as the Pistons' roster continues to take a beating heading into Friday's game against Milwaukee. Coach John Kuester did say that forward Charlie Villanueva would play against his old teammates after having surgery on his broken nose this week. He'll wear a mask. "It's a UConn thing,'' Kuester said of the mask, which has been a mainstay for Hamilton since he broke his nose twice during the 2003-04 season. "They're getting ..."
The vinegar was still lingering from Sunday's loss in Detroit at the Hawks' practice Monday.
"With a full roster, the Hawks lost 94-88 to a Pistons team that was without guards Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon and forward Tayshaun Prince, a trio who last year averaged a combined 53.2 points. Detroit then lost starting forward Charlie Villanueva in the fourth quarter. The Hawks were still out-rebounded 53-27 and 24-6 on the offensive glass, allowing the Pistons to break a seven-game losing streak. "It gets me frustrated because we have a talented group of guys," forward Josh Smith said. "We're coming to a situation like that, where pretty much all their core scorers are gone. It's kind of disheartening to lose a game like that because when you're going into the postseason and you're ..."
Tayshaun Prince may see time at power forward when he returns
"As the Pistons' season threatens to end before it has barely begun, there is one question that keeps being repeated: How will those who have been trying to keep the team above water respond when Tayshaun Prince and Rip Hamilton return from injuries? The thinking is Austin Daye, Jonas Jerebko, Will Bynum and Ben Gordon (nursing a left ankle sprain) might balk at lesser minutes when the two veterans return. But considering the team is on a seven-game losing streak and stands at 5-11 going into today's home game against the Atlanta Hawks, there really isn't a whole lot they can say but "Please hurry back." And I would say there really isn't going to be a logjam, because folks forget Pistons ..."
Tayshaun Prince taking recovery slow
"Some days are good and some days are filled with pain for injured Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince. But he won't even think about returning to the lineup until he begins putting together consecutive pain-free days. Prince has been out four weeks because of a ruptured disk and said there is no timetable to return. "We did not talk about it," Prince said. "Nobody has talked about it. It is a situation where they are putting me in position to feel good in consecutive days, rather than being up and down." Prince took extensive shooting practice before the Pistons' game against the Los Angeles Clippers Friday. He is beginning to work out but has not scrimmaged or practiced with the team. Prince ..."
John Kuester on all the Pistons' injuries: 'Goodness, gracious'
"Tayshaun Prince was sitting next to him with a bad back, and Rip Hamilton was in The Palace nursing a severely sprained right ankle. So you could only imagine what was going through coach John Kuester's mind when Ben Gordon sprained his left ankle in the second quarter of Wednesday's 98-88 loss to Cleveland. "I just went, 'Goodness, gracious,'" said Kuester, who is having a baptism by fire as a first-year NBA head coach. "(But) that's part of the NBA. You never want to see a player go down. (But) our guys rallied and played real hard." Gordon is listed as day-to-day, but judging from the way he was limping after the game, it'll be a surprise if he plays Friday against the Los Angeles ..."
Pistons Prince could return in 1 week
"When the NBA schedule first came out, this just completed four-game Western trip didn't look kind. Four playoff teams, with two back-to-back sets. Not easy under the best of circumstances. But worse for the Pistons, who sustained difficulties on the way out West. Injuries to Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, then an overtime game Saturday in Utah and a short turnaround to Sunday's game in Phoenix while ending the trip, and the chances of earning any wins shrunk. Sure enough, there were no victories. Close, in three of them, thanks to some furious comebacks and an admirable no-quit attitude. But close doesn't matter in the NBA. There are no ties in this league. It's either win or lose, ..."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince go through light practice
"In a small bit of good news, shooting guard Rip Hamilton (ankle) and small forward Tayshaun Prince (back) got in a little work at practice today as the Detroit Pistons prepared for Saturday night's game at Utah. Hamilton took shots for the first time since he sprained his ankle in the season opener. But he didn't run nor jump, so it doesn't appear that he's close to returning. Prince took some shots and also did some light jogging but said he wasn't ready for contact yet."
Rick Mahorn knows Tayshaun Prince's pain
"Longtime Pistons fans probably remember watching former player Rick Mahorn lying on his stomach on the floor to rest his aching back during the team's postseason run during the 1987-88 season. He was suffering an injury similar to the one that will sideline starting small forward Tayshaun Prince indefinitely. For now, the remedy is rest for the ruptured disk in Prince's back, but possible surgery to correct the problem hasn't been ruled out. The team announced after Saturday's practice that the seven-year veteran will be out indefinitely. On Tuesday, Prince's streak of 436 consecutive starts ended because of the injury. The Pistons realized the seriousness of the injury Tuesday, and Prince ..."
Tayshaun Prince out indefinitely with disk rupture
"It looks as if the Pistons will have to do without small forward Tayshaun Prince for the foreseeable future. The Pistons announced Saturday that Prince will be out indefinitely due to a small disk rupture in his lower back after an MRI exam confirmed the injury. The Pistons didn't give a timetable, but said Prince is being treated for the injury and will be evaluated further. Such an injury typically heals through rest, and surgery usually isn't necessary. But it's hard to say how long the recovery will be. Coach John Kuester was first informed there was something wrong with Prince's back at Tuesday morning's shoot-around, and Prince's streak of 436 consecutive starts ended that night in a ..."
Tayshaun Prince out indefinitely with ruptured disc
"All those Tayshaun Prince trade rumors can be put to rest for the time being. The Pistons announced Saturday that Prince will be out of the lineup indefinitely because of a small rupture of a disc in his lower back. The injury was confirmed following an MRI exam late this week and by evaluation by team doctors. Prince will continue to receive treatment. The injury is a crushing blow to Prince, one of the more durable players in the league. Before getting hurt, Prince had a streak of 496 games played -- and 439 consecutive starts -- dating to the 2003-04 season. Prince played in the first three games this season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 38.7 minutes."
Hamilton, Prince to miss Pistons game
"The Pistons aren't going to have Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince tonight when they face the Orlando Magic. This will be the fifth game Hamilton has missed with a sprained right ankle. Prince will miss his second game with a lower back problem."
Rip Hamilton sorely missed; Tayshaun on trade block?
"Ben Gordon just laughed after Wednesday's loss at Toronto when asked whether teams were playing him differently since Rip Hamilton has missed the last four games with a sprained right ankle. "Honestly, I haven't played with Rip enough to tell if that's the case or not," Gordon said with a grin. "Obviously, our guards are getting a lot of attention because we rely on our perimeter players to score a lot." That's somewhat of an understatement as Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum and Gordon have pretty much carried the offense most of the season. But you can probably make a case that the team would be undefeated if Hamilton hadn't missed any time."
Pistons' Tayshaun Prince doubtful for remainder of preseason
"That pesky little cut under Tayshaun Prince's right big toe shouldn't affect his availability for the regular season opener next week. But it's significant enough to where it will likely keep him off the floor in Detroit's remaining preseason games. Prince, who suffered the injury against Washington in Grand Rapids last week, has not played in the two games since then. He spent Monday's practice working with Arnie Kander, the team's strength and conditioning coach."
Pistons' Tayshaun Prince just misses NBA all-defensive team
"Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince just missed making an NBA all-defensive team today, finishing with the most votes of any player not honored. He had made the team the previous four seasons. Prince had 15 points in voting by the league's coaches, including three first-team votes. Shane Battier (Birmingham Detroit Country Day) and Ron Artest were the second-team forwards with 22 points, the fewest among players on a team. Charlotte guard Raja Bell had the next-most points among players left off, with eight."
New Orleans Hornets continue to be mentioned in rumored trade deals
"Although the New Orleans Hornets are one loss away from elimination in their best-of-seven series against the Denver Nuggets, there is speculation the franchise could go through an extensive housecleaning this summer to revamp its roster and avoid having to pay the luxury tax. But 10 days ago, New Orleans General Manager Jeff Bower said their evaluations will be based on what they do in the playoffs. The Nuggets hold a 3-1 lead series entering tonight's Game 5 at the Pepsi Center. In Game 4, the Hornets lost by a 58-point margin at home, tying an NBA record for worst playoff loss. Despite rampant trade rumors since March, the Hornets cannot not begin making trades until this July because ..."
Tayshaun Prince says techs are hurting Pistons
"Tayshaun Prince responded jokingly to a lighthearted question posed Monday regarding Pistons teammates Rasheed Wallace and Richard Hamilton. "Have you offered any free anger-management training for those guys?" a reporter asked. "I'm going to have to sooner or later, because this is getting embarrassing," Prince said, smiling. "So, I'll let them know in a couple days." Underneath the humor, though, is an attitude problem that the perpetually levelheaded power forward wants to resolve. Wallace received his NBA-leading 10th technical Friday, and Hamilton was called for his fourth Sunday. Both came during a tight fourth quarter of an eventual loss. Wallace got his tech even though it appeared ..."
