Scott Feldman News & Rumors

Ian Kinsler, Scott Feldman lead Rangers past Reds
"Ian Kinsler homered and doubled, and the Rangers tagged left-hander Jeff Francis for 10 runs in three-plus innings as beat Cincinnati 12-2 for their first win this spring at Surprise Stadium as the home team. Nelson Cruz and Mitch Moreland each had three RBIs, and Josh Hamilton drove in two with a double as the final hitter Francis faced. The Rangers expect their offense to pick up the rest of spring as the lineup regulars begin to play more innings. "We've got to get serious right now," said shortstop Elvis Andrus, who was 1 for 3. "We have a few games left, and you want to get that mental approach. These games are important.""
Scott Feldman pays price for K-happy approach
"Much to his regret, Rangers right-hander Scott Feldman stepped out of character and tried to become a strikeout pitcher Monday. The decision came about during the fourth inning of the Rangers' 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field . With Evan Longoria at third and none out, Feldman retired John Jaso on a pop-up in foul territory. Sensing an escape without allowing a run, Feldman abandoned his sinker, which produces ground-ball outs, and tried to miss bats with the cut fastball. He ended up missing the strike zone. Feldman had more balls than strikes (17-10) and allowed three walks, all of which scored, in the inning. That pushed the Rays' lead to 4-0."
Scott Feldman reinstated; Darren O'Day sent to Round Rock
"After RHP Scott Feldman refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Thursday, the club activated him and optioned RHP Darren O'Day to the minors to make room on the 25-man roster. O'Day, 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA, returned from more than two months on the DL on July 2. In three outings since returning from hip surgery, O'Day has allowed five hits, including three home runs, and three runs in 3.1 innings. In addition, the Rangers designated LHP Zach Phillips for assignment, giving them 10 day to trade, release or outright him to the minors if he clears waivers. Phillips, 25, has a 1-3 record and 4.43 ERA in 33 relief appearances for Triple-A Round Rock this season."
Rangers' Scott Feldman waived, expected to accept assignment to remain in minors
"Right-hander Scott Feldman, the Rangers' opening-day starter a year ago, cleared outright waivers Wednesday and will be given a minor-league assignment after being activated from the disabled list today. Feldman can reject the assignment and take free agency, but that is unlikely. If Feldman were to reject the assignment, he would forfeit the remaining guaranteed payments on his contract: $8.97 million. Foxsports.com first reported the Rangers had put Feldman on waivers. General manager Jon Daniels does not comment on waiver-related matters, but the Rangers' thinking is clear. The Rangers must bring Feldman off the disabled list today because his injury-rehabilitation assignment ended"
Tommy Hunter "tweaks" groin; Scott Feldman to take next step
"It's one step forward, one step back for the Rangers' rehabbing pitchers. RHP Tommy Hunter made a strong rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock Monday, right up until his last pitch. Meanwhile, RHP Scott Feldman may make his first rehab outing of the season before the end of the week after getting through an extended spring training game with no issues Monday. Rangers officials said Hunter "tweaked" a groin or hamstring on his 79th pitch of the afternoon outing. The pitch finished off the sixth inning against Nashville. Hunter allowed one unearned run on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts."
Rangers reach first World Series, end Yankees reign
"High above Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, on a night when rain threatened to spoil the biggest night in Texas Rangers history, a breeze from the south blew steadily. The flags atop the home-run porch in right field were waving proudly late Friday, including the rookie of the bunch. It reads: 2010 American League Champions. The Rangers will play in the World Series for the first time in franchise history after closing out the AL Championship Series in Game 6 on Friday night with a 6-1 victory over the mighty New York Yankees. Colby Lewis allowed only a run on three hits in eight innings, and Vladimir Guerrero and Nelson Cruz came up big with two outs in a four-run fifth to help the Rangers"
Scott Feldman hopes to avoid DL with sore right knee
"Right-hander Scott Feldman, suffering from soreness on the outside of his right knee, is hoping to avoid the disabled list, but the Rangers have discussed plans in case the injury requires a 15-day period to heal. Feldman had to leave Saturday's game before the seventh inning after he felt the knee buckle while he was warming up. Feldman will have an MRI today and be examined by Dr. Keith Meister. Judging by the caution the Rangers have shown with recent injuries, Feldman could be headed to the DL for the first time in his career. "It feels perfectly fine just walking around or even climbing steps," he said. "When I push off, it's still screwed up. I've had days where my knees don't feel"
Scott Feldman's frustrations continue as White Sox top Rangers
"The Texas Rangers kept giving Scott Feldman a lead to work with Sunday night against the Chicago White Sox.But just as it's been for much of the season, the right-hander couldn't handle the prosperity.Twice the Rangers gave Feldman a lead to work with, and he gave it up both times as the White Sox beat the Rangers 5-3. The loss gave the White Sox the series, as the Rangers have now dropped two series after winning eight consecutive. If Feldman could have kept things in check Sunday, that might have not have been the case. No one knows the importance of getting the shutdown frame more than Feldman."Our guys gave me the lead two different times and I let them right back in the game both"
Rangers' Scott Feldman hopes stats will improve in second half
"Scott Feldman officially closes out the first half of the season for the Texas Rangers tonight against the Chicago White Sox.It's been a first half Feldman would like to mostly forget, as the Texas Opening Day starter has struggled to build on a 2009 season that saw him win a team-high 17 games and emerge as the team's best starter. The right-hander would like to get things turned around in the second half, and sees no better time to get it going than tonight."I expected to do better than what I've done so far," said Feldman, who will square off against Chicago's Mark Buehrle. "The good thing is we play 162 games. Hopefully by the time the season ends, I can look back and we're in the"
Rangers' Feldman to start opener vs. Angels
"Scott Feldman will start Tuesday's three-game series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Feldman will be working on four days rest when he pitches in Anaheim. "We talked about it and we don't need a fifth starter now until Saturday," manager Ron Washington said. "We felt that was the best way to go." The Rangers could have opted for right-hander Dustin Nippert, who lasted three innings in his second start of the season on Wednesday. Nippert, who was filling in for the injured Rich Harden, would have been working on five days rest. Former starter Matt Harrison was another possibility . Instead they'll only need to use a fifth starter twice more before the All-Star break kicks in on July"
Feldman's struggles continue as Royals beat Texas Rangers
"Scott Feldman still hasn't rounded into the form he showed in 2009 when he won 17 games and was the Texas Rangers' pitcher of the year.Manager Ron Washington hopes that form returns soon.Feldman lost again Wednesday as the Royals beat the Rangers 5-2 for the first time in six games this season.Feldman gave up four runs in 62/3 innings and has dropped his last seven starts away from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.Feldman and right-hander Rich Harden were supposed to be the staff anchors. But they've combined for just four victories, and neither could beat the lowly Royals to open the eight-game trip. But Washington saw signs from Feldman on Wednesday, who was outdueled by Kansas City's Luke"
