Rudi Johnson News

Former Bengals Find Work
"It didn't take long for several departed Cincinnati Bengals to find work. Rudi Johnson, who didn't play one down during the pre-season, has signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions. You have to think that former Bengals' quarterback Jon Kitna, went to bat on behalf of his former teammate, as they sought to beef up their running game. Cornerback Deltha O'Neal meanwhile, has signed a contract with the New England Patriots. Head Coach Bill Belicheck says the organization prides itself on identifying players from other teams, who would fit into their scheme, if they were ever released. O'Neal, the two-time All-Pro, fit the profile and so he's now a Patriot. Bengals.com is reporting ..."
RB Rudi Johnson works out for Lions
"Rudi Johnson worked out for Lions coaches and front-office personnel Monday morning. But there's nothing imminent -- and may never be -- as far as a possible contract offer to the former Pro Bowl running back, who was released Saturday by the Cincinnati Bengals. Johnson has been hampered by a hamstring injury this fall, after missing a good chunk of the 2007 season with a similar problem. But while Lions president Matt Millen told reporters at practice Monday that Johnson "looked fine," executive vice president Tom Lewand said the team was just doing its due diligence. He has spoken to Johnson's agent, Peter Shaffer, but said there are no contract negotiations ongoing."
Rudi's career compares favorably
"With running back Rudi Johnson's days with the Bengals over, this is a good time to see where he ranks on the list of all-time Bengals running backs. The following rankings are subjective and not based purely on statistics (Ickey Woods misses the cut because he had just one good season, as a rookie, before injuries took their toll): 10. Paul RobinsonBengals Years: 1968-72 Bengals Stats: 2,441 yards rushing, 4-yard average per carry, 69 receptions The Skinny: Robinson was a major offensive cog for the Bengals his first three seasons in the league, especially in the team's inaugural season of 1968 when he rushed for 1,023 yards (in only 14 games), caught 24 passes (third most on the team) ..."
Fantasy Football Impact Report: Rudi Johnson
"Rudi Johnson heard the rumors for most of the last month. He'd even accepted the news and shrugged it off as league business. Apparently the Bengals running back had told more than one media outlet in the Cincinnati Metro that he was even ready to move on. According to multiple media reports, the team had been shopping Rudi in an attempt to bolster their injury depleted receiving corps. "It doesn't bother me one way or the other," Johnson told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I'm still going to do the same thing. It's part of the business." NFL organizations are beginning to maneuver for their final cuts, and the first big news before teams make their final roster adjustments is the release of ..."
Stuck with Rudi
""It's already been decided; the game is irrelevant. The situation has already been presented. The game doesn't really matter." --Rudi Johnson to the Cincinnati Enquirer Oh, we beg to differ, Mr. Johnson. This game does seem to matter. Not every fantasy league can wait until September 3 to hold their draft or auction. The logistics simply don't work. It is often difficult to find even one day that all 8, 10, 12, 14 or more owners have even a partially free night to set aside. Sometimes, as is the case in one of my leagues, the draft occurs in the first half of August because that when there's an open date. Thankfully, one of my colleagues ended up with Rudi Johnson on the night of August ..."
Cincinnati Bengals cut RB Rudi Johnson
"From a fantasy perspective, this is obviously a huge blow to Johnson's value because he likely will not be a starter for any team in the near future. Owners who have already drafted Johnson should wait to see where he goes before deciding on what to do with him. There is a chance he could sign with a team and begin to share carries at some point this season. The transaction certainly increases the value of Perry and fellow running back Kenny Watson. Perry likely will now become the team's starter, but he too has a history of injuries in the NFL. He spent the entire 2007 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of ankle and foot injuries. He also had knee and ankle injuries ..."
Bengals cut oft-injured RB Johnson; Perry to start
"In the first major surprise of the day, the Bengals informed halfback Rudi Johnson that his contract has been terminated. His agent, Peter Schaffer, confirmed that the Bengals notified him that his client will no longer be with the team. Johnson was in the fourth year of a five-year, $20.7 million contract. Hamstring problems bothered him this summer, and injuries have been a concern for the past couple years. Johnson came to minicamp in incredible shape. He added muscle and lost body fat. The release of Johnson gives Chris Perry the starting job. He was scheduled to make $3.65 million this season."

Johnson expects Bengals to follow through with trade
"Rudi Johnson has heard his name come up in trade rumors before, but this time he's ready to move on. According to multiple media reports, the Cincinnati Bengals have been shopping the running back after Chad Johnson's injury left the receiving corps depleted. "It doesn't bother me one way or the other," Johnson said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I'm still going to do the same thing. It's part of the business." ESPN's Bob Holtzman reports that Bengals coach Marvin Lewis is frustrated with the hamstring injury that has kept Johnson out of all three preseason games. He missed five games with a hamstring injury last season. But the Bengals third-leading rusher all-time told ESPN that ..."
Bengals Shopping Rudi Johnson
"The Bengals don't have much experience at receiver behind Johnson and Houshmandzadeh. Marcus Maxwell started Sunday in Houshmandzadeh's spot. The Bengals released No. 3 receiver Chris Henry after his latest arrest in the offseason but re-signed him last week. He is suspended for the first four games of the season. With the Bengals hurting at the position, sources with NFL teams said on Monday that the Bengals have called offering running back Rudi Johnson in a trade for a legitimate receiver. A Bengals source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen, however, that head coach Marvin Lewis was "totally unaware" of any attempts to trade Rudi Johnson, but he didn't rule out that president and general ..."
