Roy Williams News & Rumors

Williams' future up in air
"His acceleration isn't the same. He can't jump nearly as high as he did in his days with the Lions. But 30-year-old Roy Williams is far from ready to hang up his cleats. "How many years do I have left in me? Who knows,'' Williams said. "Losing takes a toll on you, though. When you're winning, you can play a lot longer.'' Williams looked somewhat rejuvenated during Sunday's 17-13 season-ending victory over the Vikings. He caught four passes for 60 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown reception from Josh McCown, his second score of the season. Including last week's performance against the Packers in Green Bay, Williams ended the season with 10 catches for 141 yards in his final two games."
Big chance slips through Williams' fingers
"One catch might have changed the outcome of Sunday's game. When Caleb Hanie fired a pass to Roy Williams on first-and-10 from the Chiefs' 13 late in the fourth quarter, it appeared the Bears were on the verge of tying the game. Instead, the ball tipped off Williams' fingers. It was deflected and intercepted in the end zone by Chiefs safety Jon McGraw. Williams explained the mishap. "When I came around the linebacker, I didn't see the ball until late,'' Williams said. "I just tried to put my hands up. There was no way I could knock it down or anything else. A had a linebacker right in my face. When I came around him, all I saw was a big brown thing coming in front of me. I just tried to"
Knox, Williams get in on act for Bears
"What do you know, the Bears have receivers not named Earl Bennett who can play. Bennett had his usual success Sunday, catching three passes for 75 yards. But it was Roy Williams who led the Bears in catches with five, and Johnny Knox who led the Bears in receiving yards with 97. Knox, who had been overlooked, ignored and forgotten too often this season, made a statement catch in the third quarter with the Bears needing a touchdown to create some separation."
It's taken some time, but Bears WR Roy Williams finally feeling comfortable
"Late in the fourth quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London, the Bears had a first-and-goal from the Bucs' 4-yard line after a facemask penalty against cornerback Aqib Talib. In the Bucs' confusion while Talib protested the call, linebacker Geno Hayes ended up on receiver Roy Williams as the Bears lined up for the next play. Williams saw a touchdown. Quarterback Jay Cutler saw a touchdown. But before the Bears could snap the ball, the Bucs called a timeout."
Cutler, Williams slowly but surely making connection
"Maybe at just the right time Roy Williams is beginning to fit into the Bears' offense. The veteran wide receiver had a team-high 59 yards receiving on four receptions Sunday, the biggest a 25-yard touchdown in the second quarter that staked the Bears to a 14-2 lead. It was his first touchdown as a Bear. Buccaneers cornerback E.J. Biggers went to jam Williams at the line of scrimmage and whiffed, leaving him wide open for a quick connection."
Can Williams' talent be unlocked?
"The kid from Odessa, Texas, felt as if he were secluded in a foreign country rather than relocated within the United States. Bears receiver Roy Williams, then a first-round draft pick of the Lions, envisioned radiant lights and dazzling skyscrapers before landing in Detroit during the spring of 2004. His only exposure to the Midwest had been whenever his Texas Longhorns traveled to agricultural-rich Ames to play Iowa State. Based on first impressions, Williams wasn't driven to call the Motor City home. "When I looked out the window,'' Williams said, "I was like, 'What is this?' I'm thinking Detroit was going to be something totally different. I would say I was disappointed. But I didn't"
Report: Slow starts costs Bears WR Williams his starting job
"If you purchased an authentic Roy Williams Bears jersey this summer, your investment continues to look like a shaky one. Williams has just four catches heading into Week 4, and FoxSports.com reported on Sunday that Johnny Knox will replace Williams in the starting lineup against the Panthers. Knox, who lost his starting job when the Bears signed Williams, has superior numbers at this point with nine catches for 189 yards."
Joe Theismann no fan of Bears WR Roy Williams
"Former Pro Bowl quarterback Joe Theismann, an analyst for NFL Network, didn't mask his disdain for Bears receiver Roy Williams. In an episode of ''No Huddle'' on the network Wednesday, Theismann teed off on Williams. ''Roy Williams will never be a quality receiver in the National Football League because he doesn't have what it takes,'' Theismann said. He then addressed Williams directly. ''Roy, if you're listening, I'm saying it right to you: You have to make a decision that you want to play football as a professional,'' Theismann said, ''not as somebody who's entitled because somebody was not thinking when they gave up two No. 1 [draft picks] for you.''"
It's time for Williams to show up
"Roy Williams has two 100-yard games in the last three seasons, and his main memory of one of them is how a long reception ended in a turnover. Williams caught five passes for 105 yards for the Cowboys in a 2009 meeting with the Packers, but the longest completion, a 41-yarder, ended when cornerback Charles Woodson stripped him. Williams referred to Woodson as a future Hall of Famer this week, and the Bears know they have their work cut out for them with fellow cornerback Tramon Williams (shoulder, probable) returning after missing a week. After sitting out the game in New Orleans with a strained groin muscle, Williams is expected to play Sunday. He's probable on the injury report and could"
Roy Williams again sits out with groin injury
"Chicago Bears receiver Roy Williams missed his second consecutive day of practice Thursday as he continues to recover from a groin injury. Williams suffered the injury in the season opener against the Falcons, exiting the game in the fourth quarter without returning. "It's not a bad thing missing a day of practice," Williams said Wednesday. "I remember in Detroit during the best year I had, my son had gotten sick in Texas and I flew down and I missed Wednesday and Thursday practices. I came back Friday, played against the Bills Sunday and I had like (10) catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.""
No bluster from Bears' Williams after 4 catches
"Roy Williams thought he fared pretty well in his Bears debut, but the veteran receiver stopped short of gloating about his four-catch performance. He has been around receivers coach Darryl Drake — his former tutor at the University of Texas — long enough to understand there's no such thing as a perfect game. Drake once gave a receiver a failing grade after an eight-catch, 150-plus yard performance. "And that was probably me in college,'' Williams said with laugh. "Sure Coach Drake is tough, especially being under a guy like (Mike) Martz. I think (Drake) is going overboard with it right now, but we'll let it slide.''"
Harris, Louis join Williams on sidelines at Bears practice
"Receiver Roy Williams, nursing a groin injury, wasn't the only Chicago Bears player sidelined Wednesday: Safety Chris Harris (hamstring) and tackle Lance Louis (ankle) also were held out of practice. Linebacker Brian Urlacher was excused after the death of his mother. Running back Marion Barber returned to practice, as expected, off a calf injury but was limited. Lance Briggs (knee) and Zack Bowman (hamstring) were limited."
Williams helps point receiving corps in right direction
"Roy Williams was eager to break out his signature move regardless of what kind of reaction followed. The Bears receiver figured his emphatic first-down signal would go over well with the home crowd as long as he performed well in the season opener. He did. "Some people said don't do the first-down sign (and) some people said have fun. So I wanted to have fun," Williams said. "I know the Bears fans didn't like it when I played with Detroit. I didn't like 'Bear Down' either. So it's an even trade.""
Pressure is on Bears' Roy Williams to make good impression early on
"The Bears made Roy Williams their No. 1 split end at the start of training camp. Now the big question is: Will they give him time to prove he deserved it? With Johnny Knox outplaying Williams in the preseason, that's the delicate issue the Bears could face with their opener against the Atlanta Falcons beckoning Sunday at Soldier Field. Of all the key figures in the spotlight — Jay Cutler, Mike Martz, Lance Briggs, Matt Forte, Lovie Smith, Gabe Carimi among them — few will have a leash as short as Williams. ''First of all, let me say this: They all have to produce,'' wide receivers coach Darryl Drake said Wednesday after practice at Halas Hall. ''He's in the same boat they're all in. It's"
Receiver Williams finally gets into act with two catches
"Quarterback Jay Cutler made a concerted effort to get receiver Roy Williams involved in the offense Saturday against the Tennessee Titans — with mixed results. On the Bears' first play from scrimmage, Cutler found Williams over the middle for a 17-yard gain. He went back to Williams on the next play, but the ball appeared to be tipped and was intercepted by free safety Michael Griffin, who returned it 19 yards to the Bears' 37. Williams added a 16-yard catch in the second quarter and finished with two receptions for 33 yards. Asked to assess the progress of his connection with Williams, Cutler was curt. ''We're still working on it, so we'll see how it goes,'' he said."
Williams accepts blame for interception
"Roy Williams admitted he dropped the ball this time. The Bears receiver pointed the finger mainly at himself for a first-drive miss that led to a Jay Cutler interception by Titans safety Michael Griffin. The turnover came immediately after Williams caught his first pass of the exhibitions for 17 yards. "I mean, he was just putting the ball where it needed to be," Williams said of Cutler. "Right out the gate, the first play of the game, was on the money. And the second one, that's my fault. I still have to catch that one. Feel like there should have been a flag somewhere. But this is the NFL. Got past that one and you just go to the next play.""
Darryl Drake puts heat on Bears WR Roy Williams
"Mike Martz on Roy Williams: ''Roy is fine. We're getting on the same page with Jay [Cutler] with [routes and timing], but he's doing fine.'' Lovie Smith on Williams: ''We haven't gotten a lot of production, but we're making progress.'' Cutler on Williams: ''I see nothing wrong with Roy and where he's at right now. I think by the [opener] he's going to be right where we need him.'' Williams on Williams: ''I'm good. I've got to clean up some things. But other than that, I'm good.'' Darryl Drake on Williams: ''He's not where he needs to be, and he knows that. He and I have talked about that — and the good thing is, you've got Johnny Knox, who's fighting and working hard. And believe you me,"
Knox's resurgence could be trouble for Williams
"Johnny Knox hasn't been eliminated from the starting lineup just yet. As Bears receiver coach Darryl Drake preached throughout training camp, Knox can compete for his starting job as newcomer Roy Williams won't be handed it for the regular season just yet. "What's happening right now has forced Johnny Knox to get better,'' Drake said Wednesday. "I'm proud of Johnny Knox. It has forced Johnny to be a better student of the game. "What Roy has to understand is Johnny Knox will be in there if things don't get better, in a hurry.'' Drake wasn't pleased with Williams in Monday's 41-13 loss to the Giants. He was targeted three times and became the target of criticism after he failed to catch a"
Muhammad knows spotlight Williams is under
"Muhsin Muhammad has walked in Roy Williams' cleats, with shoulder pads on. He knows what it's like to sign with the Bears and be the man on whom hopes for a revitalized passing game ride. Muhammad was that guy for three seasons and none of those matched the 923 yards and five touchdowns he had upon returning to the Panthers as a 35-year-old in 2008. "Maybe it's play calling, maybe it's selection or whatever the case may be, but the predominant philosophy in Chicago has always been running the ball," Muhammad said. "It's a defensive town. It's not an offensive mentality type of town. That team has historically been built around the defense. "I like Lovie (Smith), I like Mike Martz. … You"
Former Cowboys WR Roy Williams: I'm just trying to get a couple of balls thrown my way
"Ever since Roy Williams was released by the Cowboys and signed by the Chicago Bears, the receiver has been trying his best to find his new role in an offense that he's currently learning on the fly. With very little chemistry built up with quarterback Jay Cutler, Willliams said he's doing all he can to get a feel for the offense and gain his QB's trust. ''I'm just trying to be where I'm supposed to be when I'm supposed to be there, and not fooling him. That's our No. 1 goal,'' Williams told the Chicago Sun-Times . ''And I'm just trying to talk to him off of the field, trying to be buddy-buddy, trying to get a couple balls. That's how it works.''"
Getting the ball to Roy Williams
"One of the classic Mike Martz route schemes is the deep dig (15-yard square-in). It's a concept designed to get the ball to new Bears wide receiver Roy Williams. In the graphic linked to the left, we have the route drawn up in Posse personnel (three wide receivers, one tight end, one running back) versus a base nickel package (four defensive linemen, two linebackers, five defensive backs) in a Cover-2 alignment. The key: Attack the middle of the field with Williams in the "dagger" combination. Working against Cover-2, the Bears can force the Mike linebacker (M) to run the inside vertical seam with the slot receiver (W) on the clear-out 9 route (go route). This opens a hole in the defense"
Cutler and Williams searching for chemistry
"When Devin Aromashodu found his way onto the practice field with the first team two summers ago, Jay Cutler locked on to him like he had been delivered a fancy new toy. Aromashodu quickly became a story because whenever he ran with the ones, Cutler threw him the ball as if to say, "Here's my guy." An injury just before the season derailed his bid to make a big splash until late in the season. Last year, Aromashodu went from being the most-targeted wide receiver in the season opener against the Lions to being invisible deep within the realm of offensive coordinator Mike Martz's doghouse. The most targeted receiver in training camp last summer was Johnny Knox, the player newcomer Roy"
Bears' Johnny Knox, Roy Williams in WR battle
"Coaches love competition, and there's a fascinating battle developing at wide receiver in Bears camp — specifically at split end. Johnny Knox is the incumbent. He led the Bears with 960 receiving yards last season and tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (five) and receptions (51). Devin Hester will be the starting flanker, and Earl Bennett is the clear-cut slot receiver. But Knox must compete with newcomer Roy Williams, who caught 82 passes for 1,310 yards under Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz with the Detroit Lions in 2006. ''We need a position battle,'' Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake said. ''Roy isn't going to be handed anything. He's got to earn his stripes, and"
Cutler may have found his man in Williams
"Bears quarterback Jay Cutler discreetly lobbied for wide receiver help after arriving in a trade, and two years and one week of training camp later, he might have what he has been hoping for. Cutler practiced with Roy Williams for the first time Thursday night at Olivet Nazarene University as free agents were not permitted to take the field with their new teams until the new collective bargaining agreement was ratified. The Bears wasted no time working in Williams with the first-team offense, and Cutler's sixth pass in 7-on-7 drills went to him. With Williams having worked in Mike Martz's system before, the former Lions first-round draft pick could be at full speed in a few weeks. "He is"
Roy Williams credits Mike Martz for previous success
"Roy Williams? Why not? Rolling the dice on the finicky nature of talented wide receivers is about the only thing the Bears haven't tried in their never-ending search for a big-play pass catcher. But Williams makes sense to the Bears — he needs them as much as they need him. For the Bears, it's a low-risk gamble on a gifted athlete with size (6-3, 215 pounds) and credentials. For Williams, it's a chance to restart his once-promising career by reuniting with the only offensive coordinator he has had success with in the NFL. He had a Pro Bowl season in Mike Martz's offense with the Detroit Lions in 2006, when he had 82 receptions for 1,310 yards and seven touchdowns. He also is reunited with"
Williams must prove himself again
"Darryl Drake first met Roy Williams when he was a junior at Odessa Permian, the school on which the novel and movie "Friday Night Lights" is based. The thing the Bears wide receivers coach, then an assistant at Texas, remembers most was Williams' transcript. All A's and B's recounted Drake, who beamed like a proud father when talking about his newest pupil. So it comes as no surprise that a smart guy like that would seek out the quarterback for a meeting as soon as possible. Williams ate at a table with Jay Cutler during lunch Saturday, working to forge what he hopes will be a mutually beneficial relationship. "I am new to this team and the leader of the football team is the quarterback,""
Bears reach agreement with former All Pro wideout Roy Williams
"The Chicago Bears have gotten a wide receiver to add to the mix and it will be one hungry to prove he's still among the elite in the game. The team has reached an agreement on a contract with Roy Williams, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Thusdsay, according to ESPN. The Tribune reported yesterday the Bears would be making an aggressive push to reunite Williams with his former offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Not only is Williams back with Martz, who he had a 1,310-yard season playing for in Detroit in 2006, he's back together with wide receivers coach Darryl Drake, who coached him at the University of Texas. The two men have a close relationship. It all added up to make it an"
Bears target Roy Williams
"Maybe the Bears are on track to sign a big target after all. As the NFL free-agent frenzy continued Thursday, the Bears made it known they plan to pursue former Cowboys receiver Roy Williams, according to a league source familiar with the Bears' thinking. When reached by the Tribune on Thursday, the 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound Williams politely declined comment. The Cowboys released him Thursday. Last season he had 37 catches for 530 yards and five touchdowns in nine starts. He played in 15 games. Williams previously flourished in Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system when both were with the Lions. The former seventh-overall pick in the draft also has strong ties to Bears receivers"
Cowboys cut Williams, Barber, Davis to reach salary cap
"Roy Williams. Gone. Leonard Davis. Gone. Marion Barber. Gone. Kris Brown. Gone. Marc Colombo? The Dallas Cowboys made up for four months of inactivity with a flurry of moves Tuesday to clear salary cap space and remake the identity of their roster. They were roughly $18 million over the 2011 salary cap of $120 million when football officially reopened for business on Monday after the owners and players ended the lockout with a new collective bargaining agreement. The first order of business was to clear cap room so they could sign free agents, including left tackle Doug Free, who agreed to terms late Tuesday, and their draft picks. Cuts were expected to be made, but no one expected them to"
Hearing canceled for Williams in ring mess
"Roy Williams' quest for the ring is apparently over. A court hearing scheduled for today has been canceled in connection with a lawsuit filed by the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver over an engagement ring he allegedly mailed to Brooke Daniels, a former Miss Texas, in February as part of a marriage proposal. Williams sued Daniels to retrieve the ring, and a hearing was slated for today. But court administrator Tina Gurule says the hearing has been canceled and not rescheduled. Gurule could not confirm if the ring, valued at $76,600, had been returned to Williams. Michael Daniels told the Odessa American he was returning the ring. "I want to wash my hands of it," he told the paper. "It's just a"
Roy Williams gets ring back from Miss Texas USA
"Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams, who was suing for the return of an engagement ring from Brooke Daniels, will get it back, according to TMZ.com. The site reports that the mother of Daniels, who was Miss Texas USA 2009, said the ring was sent to his attorney on Wednesday."
Roy Williams filed lawsuit against former Miss Texas USA
"Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams is on a quest for a ring. Well, make that two rings. Along with the jewelry given at the end of each season to the Super Bowl champions, the former Longhorn and current Cowboy standout has his eye on some other jewelry -- an engagement ring he offered earlier this year. According to a story from OAOnline.com, Williams filed a lawsuit last week asking for the ring he offered to former Miss Texas USA Brooke Daniels, which is reportedly valued at $76,000. According to a court affidavit signed by Williams, he sent the ring in the mail to Daniels along with a recorded proposal. The proposal came as a pre-Valentine's Day surprise along with $5,000 for bills and"
Roy Williams on lockout: 'We're losing our time to jell as a team'
"Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams is entering his eight season in the NFL, but for the first time in his career, he isn't gearing up for the upcoming season. Instead, he's waiting around like every other player in the NFL to see if the league will even have a 2011 season. With the lockout still dragging on, Williams, like most players, is concerned the extended time off is going to hurt the Cowboys' chances of getting out of the gates when the season does begin. The team has already met for off-site practices, but as Williams told the Odessa American, he doesn't feel the light practice without the coaches is enough. "We're losing our key time to jell as a team," Williams said."
Roy Williams says he benefits from lockout
"Roy Williams is thankful for the rest he's getting during the lockout. The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, a seven-year vet, told the Odessa American recently that "for us older players, it's good." Williams, 29, made his comments while holding a youth football camp in the West Texas city, his hometown."

Slumping Cowboys WR Roy Williams hits rock bottom
"Simple math says Roy Williams should be catching more passes. But as the number of Cowboys receivers dwindle, Williams' numbers are dropping, too. He can go no lower than the last two games. After missing the Washington game with a strained groin, he had no catches against Arizona. Williams knows those numbers don't add up to the $20.4 million owed him the next three seasons. And because of that, he knows Sunday's game against Philadelphia could be his last with Dallas. "I can only do what I can do," Williams said. "Started off nice and then fell off the face of the earth somehow. "I want to be here. If not, I will be somewhere else." Since Jon Kitna replaced Tony Romo at quarterback"
Cowboys Wide receiver Roy Williams listed as questionable
"As it becomes more certain that running back Marion Barber will return to the field for the first time since Nov. 25, the likelihood that wide receiver Roy Williams could miss his second consecutive game has increased. Williams, who has been hampered by a groin injury since last week, is noted as questionable on the team's injury report that was released Friday. Barber, who has been bothered by the left calf he strained last month in the 30-27 loss to New Orleans, is listed as probable, the same status assigned to running back Felix Jones (shin), linebacker Keith Brooking (foot), safety Gerald Sensabaugh (concussion), linebacker Sean Lee (concussion/shoulder), wide receiver Jesse Holley"
Roy Williams, Marion Barber inactive
"Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams and running back Marion Barber are both inactive for today's game against the Washington Redskins. Williams popped up on the injury report earlier this week with a groin injury while Barber has not played since straining his left calf against New Orleans on Nov. 25. Williams, who has made 36 receptions for 524 yards and five touchdowns this season, was listed as inactive for the first time since he injured his ribs and missed the Cowboys' 20-13 overtime victory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 11, 2009."
Groin injury could sideline Roy Williams
"The Dallas Cowboys could be without two starters for Sunday's home game against the Washington Redskins. Wide receiver Roy Williams is questionable with a groin injury suffered this week in practice, and it doesn't look like he'll play. Running back Marion Barber, who has missed the last two games with a calf injury, was limited in practice this week and isn't expected to participate against Washington. Felix Jones will start in place of Barber."
As if in the snow, Roy sets his image
"Had they opened Jerry's roof, and had winter dusted the football field with snow, they would have recreated a Thanksgiving memory. Subbing for Leon Lett, and sliding similarly into infamy, would be someone who fully understands what he has done. This is what makes it even harder for Roy Williams. These Cowboys are nothing like Lett's. The best the current ones can do this season is break even. The Cowboys of 1993 were heading to their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy. Lett also made a mental blunder then, ? diving in the snow against the Dolphins to turn a dead ball into a live one. Williams, in contrast, simply fumbled Thursday. But this wasn't just any fumble, and it didn't happen to"
Cowboys reallythe ball in loss to Saints
"Roy Williams couldn't look. When David Buehler lined up for a 59-yard field goal with 31 seconds left, Williams was on the Dallas Cowboys sideline with his head down. "I thought it was good at first from what I was hearing," Williams said, "but then all of a sudden, I heard silence." That told Williams there would be no overtime, that he would leave the field as one of the biggest goats in franchise history. Buehler's kick was plenty long, but it barely missed wide left with 25 seconds remaining. Aided by Williams' shocking fumble with 3:03 left, the New Orleans Saints ? bounced back from blowing a 17-point lead to eke out a 30-27 win before 90,985 on Thursday. "I lost the ballgame. I"
Roy Williams takes the blame for loss: 'I lost the ballgame'
"It is worse than buzzard's luck. It is worse than having no luck at all. Roy Williams tried to do something good for the Cowboys on Thursday and ended up doing something bad. "I lost the ballgame," Williams said. "I'm accountable for what I did. Put it on me. I let my team down." Leading 27-23, the Cowboys went into their four-minute offense in hopes of closing out New Orleans. Quarterback Jon Kitna figured if they could run eight plays, the game was finished. On play No. 3, disaster struck. It was the ultimate backfire play. Naturally, it involved Williams. On a third-and-6 play from the Cowboys 42, Williams broke free on a slant pattern. He caught the ball in stride and had more than the"
Dez Bryant's receiving numbers more than Austin, Williams combined over last five games
"Dez Bryant's Q-rating is soaring. But the rookie's rise has come at the expense of starters Miles Austin and Roy Williams. Over the last five games, Bryant has more receptions, yards and touchdowns than Austin and Williams combined. Bryant has 24 catches for 359 yards and five touchdowns. Austin has 16 receptions for 251 yards and one touchdown, and Williams has seven catches for 88 yards and two scores. Bryant's popularity extends to the relatively ignored elder receivers. "Dez is playing lights out right now," Austin said. "If I was the quarterback, I'd be throwing him the ball." Williams had 21 catches the first five games but only four since then. Two of those came last week against"
Roy Williams: 'This is how we used to lose in Detroit'
"Roy Williams played just five games with the Lions in 2008, but he'll always be remembered as a part of the NFL's only 0-16 team. "I wasn't 0-16," Williams said in a conference call with Detroit reporters Wednesday. "But I am in that team picture, so if it goes in the Hall of Fame, I was part of that football team." Cowboys owner Jerry Jones overpaid to bring Williams home to his native Texas at the trade deadline two years ago, sending three draft picks, including first- and third-round choices, to the Lions for Williams and a seventh-rounder. A Pro Bowl selection in 2006, Williams has made little impact with the Cowboys. He had 19 catches in his first half-year in Dallas, doubled that"
2 years after big trade, Roy Williams in familiar spot: losing
"Roy Williams envisioned Super Bowls when Detroit traded him to Dallas. Just over two years later, his Cowboys are 2-7, same as the Lions. The Super Bowl may be at Cowboys Stadium, but Williams may as well be in Detroit. His Cowboys are trying to snap a four-game losing streak at home. The Lions are trying to snap a 25-game losing streak on the road. Epic, for sure, but Williams is going low-key this week. It's not like he has a lot of trash to talk other than mentioning that the last time the Lions had a road victory, he was on the roster. "Nah, I'm going to get my two or three looks a game, make the most of them, and hopefully one of them is a touchdown and I can say, 'Yeah.' That's all I"
Lions expect Roy Williams and Jon Kitna will want win, not revenge
"Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams is scheduled to be on a conference call today with Detroit reporters. The colorful former Lion is sure to say something funny, insightful or inciting about Sunday's matchup against his former team. Williams might even rope former Lions quarterback and current Cowboys starter Jon Kitna into the conversation. But it won't matter. Those heady days in Detroit when Kitna passed for 4,000 yards and Williams gained 1,300 yards are as long gone as are most of their ex-teammates. Williams, 28, and Kitna, 38, are in their declining years. Williams was a Pro Bowler in Detroit, but he's only the third receiver in Dallas. Kitna is a space-holder for the injured Tony"
With just 5 catches in last 4 games, Roy Williams knows it's time to step up if he wants to stay
"With the ascension of Jason Garrett , Cowboys receiver Roy Williams is playing for his fifth head coach in a seven-year NFL career. For Williams, that means he must prove himself to another head coach for the fifth time. The task takes on more urgency because Williams wants to avoid being caught up in the inevitable changes that are likely to come. "I want to retire here," Williams said Wednesday. "I want to put on film that I can play in this environment and help this team win and just do the right thing. That's all I can do, can't do nothing else." Williams could find himself in a precarious spot. After a strong beginning, Williams has had his role in the passing game dwindle. In the"
Roy Williams: Cowboys can win nine in a row
"The Cowboys have returned to fundamentals, but receiver Roy Williams said that doesn't mean the season is over. Williams still believes the 1-6 Cowboys can reach the playoffs. ``You know me. I think we can go nine in a row, if you ask me,'' Williams said. ``People can call me stupid or whatever but this football team has the corps of players and the supporting cast of players to win nine in row. We just got to get it started.''"
Outlook is dire for Cowboys; Roy Williams: We can end up 12-4
"One definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Or is that the definition of a bad football team? The Cowboys' inexorable slide into irrelevance continues. Sunday's 24-21 loss to Minnesota again featured the penalties, turnovers and breakdowns that have become all too familiar in this 1-4 start. On this afternoon at the Metrodome, quarterback Tony Romo was unsure what happened on his first interception and never saw the player who picked off the second. The Cowboys were penalized 11 times for 91 yards and a penalty nullified what would have been a 68-yard touchdown strike to Miles Austin because the receiver interfered to get open. The team"
