Ronnie Brewer News & Rumors

Brewer responds to benching by giving Bulls big lift
"There are private moments that occur within any sports team, far away from the media glare. Those moments are when teams can bond, when respect can be earned. Ronnie Brewer had such a moment after Game 3 of the Bulls-76ers series, the first time he sat by coach's decision in his two seasons as a Bull. "A lot of players, that could affect them," Luol Deng said. "But Ronnie is a pro. He knows what he needs to do to help us. Some stuff he does, you might not see in the stats. He doesn't get a lot of credit. But his defense is great, he always comes in with energy and we get stops and go out and run.""
Brewer back to giving Bulls a boost off bench
"In the summer of 2010, Ronnie Brewer signed with the Bulls as the presumed starting shooting guard and then lost that job to Keith Bogans when he struggled to return from a hamstring injury. Last offseason, Brewer returned after the lockout in great shape only to see the Bulls sign Richard Hamilton. In many ways, Brewer is a symbol of the Bulls' "Bench Mob," a player who prides himself on sacrificing and staying ready for whatever role comes his way. "We feel pressure to play at the same level if not higher than what the starters played at," Brewer said. "We play like we want starters' minutes. We try to maintain the lead or take the lead. We take a lot of pride in that.""
Brewer brings lot to table
"He has started 10 games for Richard Hamilton at shooting guard, two for Luol Deng at small forward and played the other eight with "The Bench Mob." Ronnie Brewer's versatility is something Tom Thibodeau doesn't take for granted. "I do miss what he brings coming off the bench," the Bulls coach said. "But I also like what he does as a starter. That's a tribute to him.""
Rip Hamilton's injury proves to be a boon to Ronnie Brewer
"In the wake of the Bulls' loss to the Miami Heat in five games in the Eastern Conference finals, there were understandable questions about how they would improve production at the 2-guard spot. This summer, it would have been difficult to imagine the answer was sitting on the bench. The signing of Rip Hamilton dominated talks at the Berto Center during a condensed training camp, but no sooner than the Bulls acquired the veteran shooting guard, he injured his groin, causing him to miss nine of the Bulls' 14 games. In stepped Ronnie Brewer, who was shooting 58.3 percent from three-point range and 51.9 percent from the field before Saturday's victory against the Raptors."
Even with 2nd unit, Brewer will see plenty of minutes
"Though tweaks can be made, the Bulls' rotation is taking shape. And with Ronnie Brewer's return to the second unit upon the arrival of Richard Hamilton, the "Bench Mob" will remain intact for now. "Last year we played 10 (players); we're going to do the same thing this year," coach Tom Thibodeau said Tuesday before the Bulls' exhibition against the Pacers. "That's a plus. How many minutes you can play each night, that remains to be seen. You have to see where you are conditioning-wise. But I like what our guys did in the offseason."
Even if Hamilton joins Bulls, Brewer wants to start at shooting guard
"Unsolicited, Joakim Noah went out of his way recently to offer how well Ronnie Brewer has started training camp. The next day, Brian Scalabrine did the same. After finalizing terms of his buyout, the Pistons officially waived Richard Hamilton on Monday, setting the stage for him to sign a two-year, $10 million deal with the Bulls, likely on Wednesday. The waiver process takes 48 hours. Then, let the battle for the starting shooting guard position begin."
Brewer wants starting role
"Ronnie Brewer has heard the talk too. Upgrade at shooting guard and the Bulls can compete for a championship. Entering this training camp healthy, unlike last season when he had a sore hamstring, Brewer has his own thoughts. "Whatever we have to do to win, I'm all about that," Brewer said Friday at the Berto Center. "I have to do everything I possibly can to contribute. Whether that's a starting role or coming off the bench, I can't let that stuff stop me working every day as hard as I can to be better and help this team. "If my number is called, I will be ready. I feel like Thibs can feel confident whenever he puts me in the game." Translated for coach Tom Thibodeau: Brewer thinks he can"
Brewer adjusting to tape on sprained thumb
"For a brief moment, it appeared Ronnie Brewer had been freed. As he shot baskets Saturday at the Berto Center in advance of the Eastern Conference finals, Brewer no longer wore the black tape that has protected his left thumb since he sprained it April 12. But Brewer said doctors will continue to make him wear the protection during games. "When I first injured it, it was tough to do a lot of the things I like to do — get my hands in the passing lane, shoot the ball with ease, dunk," Brewer said. "Some days are better than others. It depends on if it got hit in the game. After some games, it's throbbing because it's taped up to where I can't move it. "But now I'm feeling more comfortable."
Wishing JazzBulls the best (not really)
"Dear Chicago JazzBulls fans; Hope you're enjoying your team and our players (but not really — not that we're bitter). The Bulls won a league-high 62 games and are 2-0 in the playoffs so far. Despite the more publicized hoarding of brand-name talent by the Lakers, Knicks and Heat, the Bulls look like the team to beat. We're real happy for you (but not really — not that we're bitter). The JazzBulls owe much of it to the Jazz. Little more than a year ago, three of their players — Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer and Carlos Boozer — were wearing Jazz uniforms. This year, they instantly transformed the Bulls into a championship contender. In one year, the Bulls went from third place in their division"
Sprained thumb and diminished playing time limiting Brewer
"So active in wreaking defensive havoc down the stretch of the regular season, Ronnie Brewer hasn't affected much in the first two games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Part of this is coach Tom Thibodeau has stretched out the starters' minutes and Brewer's playing time has dropped from 22 minutes per game in the regular season to 15:54. And part of it is Brewer clearly struggling to play through his sprained left thumb, which he tapes."
Brewer, Noah ready to go
"After working on ballhandling and putting up his first shots since spraining his left thumb, Ronnie Brewer exhaled. Bulls fans can too. "Come Game 1, you'll see me diving on the floor still," Brewer said. "I'll be getting in the passing lanes, working the baseline, doing the things I've done this entire year. Anything I can do to help this team, I'm willing to do it." The Bulls held a film session, walkthrough and light individual workouts Thursday evening. And not only did Brewer get cleared medically to participate, coach Tom Thibodeau said Joakim Noah's sore left knee and right ankle are "fine." Both will play their normal rotational roles against the Pacers on Saturday. "It's a little"
Brewer works out with sprained thumb
"Ronnie Brewer arrived at the Berto Center early Thursday and got up shots and worked on dribbling with his sprained left thumb taped. "It's a little sore, but you have to play through pain so that's what I intend to do," Brewer said. "It's playoff basketball. I'm not going to miss it for anything." Brewer said he plans to play in Satuday's Game 1 against the Pacers with the thumb taped and that the injury won't change his style. "You'll see me diving on the floor still," Brewer said. "I'll be getting in the passing lanes, working the baseline, doing the things I've done this entire year.""
Ronnie Brewer a go in playoffs
"Ronnie Brewer vowed to be ready to go for the Bulls' playoff opener against Indiana on Saturday after sitting out the regular-season finale Wednesday with a sprained left thumb. ''As long as it's still on my hand, I'm going to play,'' said Brewer, who sprained the thumb diving for a loose ball at New York on Tuesday. ''Nicks and bruises come with the territory. We're in a great situation to do something special. It would take something serious to keep me out. I'll be able to play through the pain. I'll still be able to do the things I do.'' What time is it? Coach Tom Thibodeau's initial thoughts on the early-bird playoff opener at noon Saturday against Indiana? ''I don't even know what"
Ronnie Brewer's hustle results in injury
"Bulls guard Ronnie Brewer earned the hustle award but paid the price Tuesday. Brewer saved a possession early in the second quarter by scrambling for a ball and knocking it loose four times before retrieving it and calling a timeout. But he suffered a sprained left thumb and had to leave the game. Doctors will take another look at Brewer's hand today. ''I thought I broke it,'' Brewer said. ''I was like, 'Oh, man, not with two games left I broke my thumb.' Even if it was, I was going to try to get it taped and play.'' Brewer had a brace on the thumb but said he thinks he'll be able to play."
Brewer, Gibson put Bulls first by accepting reserve roles
"The list of reasons the Bulls have gone from a .500 team to serious NBA title contenders in one season is long. Derrick Rose adding a deadly three-point shot and maturing into the MVP front-runner. First-year coach Tom Thibodeau installing one of the league's best defenses. The addition of a host of productive free agents led by Carlos Boozer. Quality depth is another obvious factor. Underlying that is bench players accepting their roles. With some reserves, that wasn't a difficult call. Kyle Korver is the consummate shooter off the bench. C.J. Watson is well-suited to his energetic relief-playmaker role, while rookie Omer Asik, who has a bright future, is in the right place to learn his"

Bulls' Brewer never was in father's shadow
"Ronnie Brewer turns 26 Sunday, which surely will bring a phone call from his parents in Arkansas. Not that such communication will be unique. "I talk to my parents every day," Brewer said. "We're very close." The birthday phone call likely will touch on familiar topics — what's going on with Brewer's four older siblings, how Brewer's adjustment to Chicago is going, life in Fayetteville, Ark., Brewer's hometown. At some point, it surely will veer into the subject of basketball, but not in the way one might think. Brewer and his father, Ron, are the rare father-son combination to play in the NBA, joining such other famous partnerships like Bill and Luke Walton; Jellybean and Kobe Bryant;"
Brewer certain any newcomer won't hurt Bulls' chemistry
"Ronnie Brewer sees the Bulls as something of a melting pot, a team composed of players from all over the NBA. Or Turkey, in the case of center Omer Asik. "From the jump, there were a lot of new characters," said Brewer, the shooting guard who came over from the Jazz with Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver. "Everybody came together, and we had to make it jell quickly." So whomever the Bulls add to get back to the roster minimum of 13, Brewer said: "He'll fit in perfectly with us. … Anybody who comes in we'll welcome with open arms." Veteran swingman Rasual Butler, bought out by the Clippers on Sunday, is a strong candidate to sign with the Bulls on Wednesday after clearing waivers. Butler, who"
Swap or no swap, Bulls' Brewer good to go
"In the nearly two weeks left before the NBA's trade deadline at 2 p.m. Feb. 24, there will be numerous rumors involving the Bulls. Virtually all are likely to involve a shooting guard. That position is the weakest link in an otherwise strong starting lineup, and general manager Gar Forman certainly will listen to any offer by any rival GM with a spare shooting guard — and probably will make a few of his own. But as far as the Bulls are concerned, they are fine at shooting guard and don't believe an upgrade is necessary for playoff success. "You could say that you might need to bring somebody in or play us by platoon," Ronnie Brewer said, "but to me, it's working out fairly well and we're"
Nice homecoming for ex-Jazzmen
"Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer have won hundreds of games in EnergySolutions Arena. As members of the Chicago Bulls, however, they got their first one Wednesday night. Boozer had 14 points, Korver hit a critical three-pointer and Brewer's steal helped seal the victory as all three former Jazz players contributed to Chicago's 91-86 win. "It always feels good to come in and beat a good team," Brewer said. "Especially a team you used to play for. … It was a hostile crowd but we knew it would be. So we're excited to get the win." Boozer's performance was hardly vintage. He missed 10 of his 16 field-goal attempts and grabbed only six rebounds. In the fourth quarter, Boozer scored"
Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer help to defeat old mates
"As expected, Kyle Korver received a loud and warm ovation from Jazz fans, and Ronnie Brewer was given a respectful response when their Chicago Bulls visited EnergySolutions Arena on Wednesday night. After both players helped clinch the Bulls' 91-86 victory, Utah fans might not be so nice next time. Korver hit a 3-pointer to give the Bulls an 87-83 lead with 2:17 left in the game. On Utah's final possession with the Jazz trailing by three, Brewer stole a Deron Williams pass and then sank two free throws to seal Chicago's win. Both Korver and Brewer signed with the Bulls as free agents during the summer. Brewer has been gone from the Jazz longer than Korver, as Utah traded him to Memphis"
Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer also facing former team
"Any other time, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer would have been getting all the attention for their first games back to Utah in opposing uniforms. However, their Chicago Bulls' teammate, Carlos Boozer, who had a much more controversial career with the Jazz, took center stage Tuesday afternoon after the Bulls' practice. Nevertheless, Korver and Brewer both still spent a lot of time talking to the media about their return to Utah for tonight's game, where they are likely to receive warm receptions. Like Boozer, Korver and Brewer signed free-agent contracts with the Bulls last summer, making the team look a bit like Utah Jazz East. Both players are earning around $5 million per year and playing"
Set up to Brewer dunk shows how well Bulls are playing
"Carlos Boozer got carried away. But only for a moment. ''Un-bee-lievable. I want to see the replay,'' Boozer gushed with Stacey King-like excitement when asked about Ronnie Brewer's in-your-face dunk that posterized the Pacers' Josh McRoberts and punctuated the Bulls' 110-89 victory Saturday night. ''And it got our crowd the Big Mac [after Brewer completed a three-point play for a 100-82 lead]. So the crowd was excited, too.'' Boozer called it ''the play of the year,'' but quickly brought himself back to earth. ''Maybe not the play of the year. But the play of the night, for sure,'' he said. Victories over the Magic and Pacers on back-to-back nights at the United Center gave the Bulls five"
Thibodeau: Brewer's a 'catalyst' for Bulls off bench
"Despite all of the debate about whether Keith Bogans should remain the starter at shooting guard, Bogans was only averaging 17.7 minutes before the Bulls played the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Arena. Even though he has come off the bench in every game this season and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, Ronnie Brewer is the de facto starter at the position. He was averaging 23 minutes before Wednesday, but has seen his playing time increase of late. In the previous five games, Brewer has played at least 27 minutes. He played 32 minutes Monday against the Detroit Pistons. ''[Brewer is] playing at a high level," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said."
Thibs likes Brewer off the bench
"Don't expect Tom Thibodeau to sit Keith Bogans in favor of Ronnie Brewer anytime soon. In a Tuesday appearance on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000, the Bulls coach defended his decision to start Bogans, who averages 3.5 points a game and is shooting 36 percent from the floor."
Brewer energizes Bulls' lineup
"The bait was out there, but Ronnie Brewer was too smart to take it. After Brewer's superb performance Saturday against the Celtics, a reporter asked him if his goal is to crack the Bulls' starting lineup. Brewer took a pass. "That's up to Thibs," he said of coach Tom Thibodeau. "All I can do is be ready to play whenever my name is called." That call came when it mattered most. Brewer played every second of the fourth quarter of the Bulls' 90-79 victory over the defending Eastern Conference champs. So did Ray Allen, the man Brewer guarded. Allen didn't get off a single shot, make a steal or dish out an assist over the game's final 12 minutes. "I tried to stay on him as close as possible,""
Don't overlook Bulls' Brewer
"There has been a lot of talk and speculation lately about what the Bulls should do, or need to do, to shore up the shooting guard position, and a lot of names have been thrown out as possibilities. But one overlooked solution is someone who's already a Bull — Ronnie Brewer. Though Brewer has been playing more minutes at shooting guard than anyone else on the roster, he hasn't been himself physically — or the player he has been throughout the first four years of his NBA career — until recently. After missing the second half of last season with a torn hamstring and sitting out most of the preseason with a strained hamstring in the same leg, Brewer said he finally started to feel 100 percent"
Brewer starting to fulfill promise
"The 11 points and 32 minutes, 6 seconds of playing time in Tuesday's victory over the Rockets weren't the only season-highs for Ronnie Brewer. The swingman's confidence is at that level too. "I feel every game I'm improving," Brewer said. "My legs are getting under me. I'm feeling more explosive. I'm understanding my teammates a little better and I think they are understanding me a little better." The slow start to Brewer's season, aided by a sore hamstring, has been well-documented. But coach Tom Thibodeau used Brewer for all but three seconds in the fourth quarter against the Rockets and played him extensively Wednesday night against the Spurs too. "It feels good to help the team and be"
Brewer coming around
"You never get a second chance to make a first impression, so guard Ronnie Brewer will have to settle for making a strong second impression now that he's finally healthy and rounding into peak condition. The Bulls signed Brewer in the summer because of his athleticism, explosiveness and defensive ability, but after being limited throughout much of training camp with a hamstring injury, he wasn't that player at the start of the regular season. More than a few Bulls fans had to be wondering if the team had made a poor signing, but Brewer said he never felt his slow start would cause others to lose faith in him. ''I feel like the coaches know what I can do,'' he said Wednesday after practice"
Bulls' Brewer working way back into form
"Over his last 2 1/2 seasons with the Jazz, Ronnie Brewer started 209 of 210 games. Nevertheless, Brewer, widely projected to start after signing with the Bulls, has no issues backing up veteran Keith Bogans at shooting guard for now. "It's not difficult at all," Brewer said. "Whether you're starting or coming off the bench, you want to defend first, make plays offensively, run the floor in transition, rebound. I'm not worried about starting. "I knew even at Media Day that my hamstring was hampered. I had to work to get that healthy. Now I have to work to help the team any way I can." Brewer, who tallied three points in 15 minutes, missed the first three exhibitions after re-injuring a"
Brewer's leg is better, but explosiveness still an issue
"After sitting out the first two weeks of training camp with an injured right hamstring, Ronnie Brewer has been back in action for a little more than a week and said he has had no issues with the hamstring. But being healthy and being ready to play in an NBA game are different things, and that has been obvious watching Brewer play in the Bulls' last three preseason games. ''It hasn't been bothering me, but I'm just trying to get my legs back under me,'' he said Tuesday after practice at the Berto Center. ''Whenever you're working them so much and then you rest and don't do anything, when you get back out there, it's like you have to start from ground zero. ''I need to get my explosiveness"
Brewer looking for lift with Bulls
"Ronnie Brewer is the early leader in the clubhouse for the line of training camp. "Luckily," Brewer said with a slight giggle, "preseason stats don't carry over to the season." A career 52.1 percent shooter, Brewer has made just 2 of 13 shots after missing the first three exhibition games with a sore right hamstring. Coach Tom Thibodeau said it's possible Brewer will start Wednesday at shooting guard, but only if the sore back that limited Keith Bogans during Tuesday's practice flares up. Either way, Brewer knows this is an important week for him. "I'm a little bit more comfortable in terms of plays," Brewer said. "I'm starting to get my legs under me a little. But I still can't simulate"
Brewer sees 1st action with Bulls
"He entered to polite applause with 5 minutes, 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter rather than with the lights down, the public address announcer in full throat and the crowd loudly heralding the starting lineups. That's how Ronnie Brewer envisioned matters unfolding when he signed his free-agent contract to replace Kirk Hinrich as the starting shooting guard last summer. That still may well happen. And Tuesday represented a start of sorts as Brewer shook off his nagging sore right hamstring to make his Bulls debut. Brewer finished with four points in just shy of 10 minutes in the Bulls' 109-88 victory over the Raptors. "I would like to start but if it doesn't happen, it's not the end"
Brewer and Watson likely set to return
"Aside from Carlos Boozer, the Bulls should have a full complement of players tonight when they play the Toronto Raptors in a preseason game at the United Center. Ronnie Brewer (hamstring) and C.J. Watson (thigh) practiced Monday for a second straight day and will play tonight barring late setbacks. ''[Brewer] looked pretty good,'' coach Tom Thibodeau said. ''He has to get his timing back. He was very active, ran the floor well, was cutting great and making multiple efforts.''"
Bulls could have 3-headed monster at shooting guard
"Ronnie Brewer practiced for the second straight day Monday and, barring a setback at Tuesday's morning shootaround, could make his preseason debut against the Raptors on Tuesday night. Of more intrigue for those handicapping the starting shooting guard battle were coach Tom Thibodeau's comments regarding the candidates. Let the tea-leaf reading begin: On Brewer, who has sat with a sore right hamstring: "I think he'll fit in really well with the offense. The more we move the ball and the more our players move, the more effective he is. In some ways, he's similar to Luol (Deng) in that if you take your eyes off him, he'll make you pay. He's always in motion. He knows how to play off people.""
Brewer practices, hopes to play Tuesday
"The buzz and optimism that greeted the Bulls at training camp on Sept. 27 got derailed in a major way when Carlos Boozer fractured the fifth metacarpal on his right hand, Ronnie Brewer strained his right hamstring and C.J. Watson tweaked his left quadriceps. But at least for one fan-friendly day at the United Center, those qualities returned. Cast and all, Boozer stoked them. "I'm feeling good, just trying to do rehab and get back out there," he told season ticket-holders following an autograph session and during an on-court event. "I can't wait to get back; I'll tell you that. We all want to win a championship." Boozer, of course, is expected to be sidelined until late November. But the"
Gibson, Bogans to start for injured Boozer, Brewer
"The Bulls' Tuesday will begin with team physicians operating on Carlos Boozer's fractured fifth metacarpal of his right hand and end with the exhibition opener against the Bucks in Milwaukee. Taj Gibson will start for Boozer and Keith Bogans steps in for Ronnie Brewer, who won't play with a sore right hamstring. "Keith has been working more with the first unit, so I want to take a look at that," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "We may get to Kyle (Korver). We're going to look at different combinations and figure it out as we go along." Bogans started 50 games last season for the Spurs and offers a defensive element that Korver lacks. Korver also provides bench scoring. "Any role I have I'm going"
Who starts is just the beginning
"For a team with seven new players and a new coaching staff, there's stunningly little competition for the Bulls in training camp. Four of the five starting spots are determined -- Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng -- and the same can be said for most of the rotation roles. The only spot up for grabs is shooting guard, where Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver are competing for the starting job -- and even that's not a heated battle. Regardless of who starts, both figure to play about the same amount of minutes, depending on matchups. That's why neither is exactly campaigning hard for the starting nod. ''I've never cared about that,'' Korver said Thursday. ''I'd like to be on"
Brewer checks ego at the door
"When a player joins a team, everything is great and his new teammates talk glowingly about him and what a help he'll be. But a more honest -- and accurate -- assessment probably can be heard from former teammates after he leaves town. Ronnie Brewer, the Bulls' latest free-agent acquisition, was paid the ultimate compliment by former teammate Deron Williams after the Utah Jazz dealt Brewer to the Memphis Grizzlies in February. ''It stinks that these things happen in the NBA,'' Williams said. ''I haven't really got nothing much good to say about the trade, so ... '' Williams and Brewer were friends, but that wasn't the only reason the former Illinois star was upset. Williams didn't see how"
Bulls' roster all jazzed up, but title not likely
"More than 21/2 hours later than originally scheduled, new Bulls starting guard Ronnie Brewer finally emerged behind the podium Monday wearing a $12.5 million smile but apparently not a watch. "Good evening," Brewer said after apologizing for being delayed. It was 4:10 p.m. Hopefully, he has a better feel for the shot clock. The fear is that a crowd of Chicagoans never may be as happy to see Brewer make a United Center entrance as the one in the media room that welcomed him after Monday's long wait. But Brewer will be worth the effort for Bulls fans if he offers as much pizzazz on the court as off it. He already knows how to play to the locals. Asked why he chose to take the offer here"
Brewer coming to Bulls
"It seems fitting that the cavalcade of departed shooting guards that began with the Bulls' trade of Thabo Sefolosha may have ended with the arrival of Ronnie Brewer, who signed a three-year, $12.5 million deal Friday to be penciled in as a starter. That's because in 2006, Bulls management also liked Brewer before drafting Sefolosha. "(General manager Gar Forman) scouted him a lot," said Henry Thomas, Brewer's Chicago-based representative. "This is a great opportunity for him. He can help the Bulls at both ends." Brewer never will possess the scoring ability of Ben Gordon, who walked as a free agent last summer. He's not as accomplished as John Salmons, whom the Bulls traded in February to"
Bulls agree to 3-year deal with guard Brewer
"Kyle Korver wasn't kidding when he said the Bulls might become the Chicago Jazz. On the same day the Orlando Magic matched the Bulls' three-year, $20 million offer sheet on J.J. Redick, the Bulls moved quickly to their next target, signing former Jazz guard Ronnie Brewer to a three-year, $12.5 million contract. A source close to Brewer said the opportunity to start at shooting guard appealed to him, which is why he turned down an offer from the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics. "This is a great opportunity for him," said Henry Thomas, his Chicago-based representative. "He can help them at both ends.""
Marc Gasol out for rest of season; Brewer also out
"Marc Gasol looked straight ahead for several moments after the Grizzlies' latest defeat. He asked for time to gather himself before speaking with reporters. Perhaps Gasol needed a moment to reflect. The second-year center will not play again this season. Griz brass has decided to allow Gasol to rehabilitate his partially torn neck muscle. Grizzlies swingman Ronnie Brewer also will miss the rest of the regular season, the team announced today. Brewer sat out the past three games with a sore right hamstring. He returned to action March 16 -- a little more than three weeks after he suffered a partially torn right hamstring. The 6-8 guard/forward said earlier this week that he hoped to return"
Ronnie Brewer says he's not done for the year
"Grizzlies swingman Ronnie Brewer sat out a second straight game because of a sore right hamstring. Brewer, though, said he hasn't decided to shut down for the remainder of the regular season. The Griz have just nine games left so there still may be doubt as to whether Brewer plays again. "I'm still working my way onto the team in practice and trying to get stronger," Brewer said. "I'll come back when it feels closer to normal." Brewer returned to action March 16, a little more than three weeks after he suffered a partially torn right hamstring. The 6-8 guard/forward insists he didn't come back too soon. "No. I don't think so," Brewer said. "The first game, it felt really good. The second"
Grizzlies' Ronnie Brewer expected to return tonight
"Ronnie Brewer stepped in front of the teammate he was guarding and intercepted a pass, and nothing presented an obstacle for the 6-8 swingman as Brewer gained control of his dribble. The play looked eerily similar to the one that resulted in Brewer suffering a partially torn hamstring a little more than three weeks ago. Only this time, Brewer kept charging uncontested in the open court."
Grizzlies' reinforcement Ronnie Brewer nearly ready
"Ronnie Brewer, injured in his first game after being acquired by the Grizzlies in a trade, could return to the team early next week. Ronnie Brewer is experiencing very little pain these days, unless you count the agony of sitting out while the Grizzlies try to earn a playoff spot. The 6-7 swingman, acquired Feb. 18 in a trade with Utah, is recovering nicely from a partially torn right hamstring and could return to action early next week. Brewer's rehabilitation took a giant step Tuesday afternoon when he participated in his first noncontact practice since suffering the injury Feb. 19. Brewer won't be available tonight when the Grizzlies play at Boston against the Celtics. But his return"
Ronnie Brewer making speedy recovery
"Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley, who finished with a season-high 26 points, strips the ball from Hornets center Aaron Gray on Wednesday. The 6-7 guard/forward sounds as if he is on pace to fully recover from a partially torn right hamstring three weeks from the day he was injured. That means Brewer likely could resume full-contact basketball activities around March 12. Team officials have not set a return date."
Utah Jazz feel for ailing Brewer
"Jazz players found out before beating Golden State on Friday night. Jerry Sloan found out beforehand as well, but only when trainer Gary Briggs told him as the Jazz coaching staff took the floor at Oracle Arena in Oakland. Ronnie Brewer, the longtime Jazz starting shooting guard traded to Memphis on Thursday, severely injured his hamstring after making a steal in the fourth quarter of his Grizzlies debut, a double-overtime loss to Miami. "I hate to hear that. ... I hate to see anybody get hurt," Sloan said afterward. "He was one of our guys and we still have a lot of respect for him and all that, and I hate to see it happen to him. Hopefully, he'll be able to bounce back." The Grizzlies"
Ronnie Brewer to miss at least three weeks with torn hamstring
"Ronnie Brewer has a partially torn right hamstring and likely will miss up to three weeks after suffering the injury Friday night in his Grizzlies debut. Acquired Thursday in a trade with the Utah Jazz, the former Arkansas Razorbacks star played just 12 minutes in a Grizzlies uniform before collapsing on the court and grimacing in pain as he held his right leg. Brewer had his condition confirmed Saturday morning after a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam. The Grizzlies said Brewer would be out indefinitely and an official timetable for his return will be set in a week. Brewer did not travel with the team to New Jersey where the Griz will face the Nets this evening. He needed crutches"
