Richard Hamilton News

Pistons' Rip Hamilton has rare foul night
"As has been his custom this season after Pistons games, Rip Hamilton sat at a locker, resting his sore right ankle in a bucket of ice and reading the stat sheet. He probably was wondering how a guy who made 51 straight free throws could shoot 2-for-8 from the line in Wednesday night's 97-91 loss to the Clippers. But after some reflection, Hamilton was back to joking with teammates. Every player has had one of those nights, and after 10 seasons in the NBA, Hamilton wasn't about to dwell on it. "Yeah, it's crazy," he said. "At one point and time I thought I couldn't miss a free throw, and tonight I missed six. But it happens. Just when you think you can't miss, a thing like this happens. ..."
Gordon, Hamilton start to look good together
"For all the consternation about the lack of cohesiveness of shooting guards Ben Gordon and Rip Hamilton, there are signs the two are growing more comfortable. The Pistons' backcourt of Gordon, Hamilton and Rodney Stuckey combined for 68 points in their 109-101 overtime victory over the Spurs on Sunday. Add that to the performance the trio put together down the stretch in a victory at Milwaukee before the All-Star break, and you see there might be something to claims Hamilton and Gordon just needed time together after injuries marred most of the first half of the season. Gordon, who scored 21 points Sunday, was asked about Stuckey's 20-point night when he touched upon his chemistry with ..."
Richard Hamilton overcomes meltdown to lift Pistons
"It was a tough final minute of regulation Sunday for Richard Hamilton, who was called for an offensive foul on Manu Ginobili with 45 seconds left and the Pistons leading 93-90. Hamilton, still fuming over the call, compounded the problem with an off-the-ball foul on Ginobili, while San Antonio was trying to in-bound the ball. That gave Ginobili one foul shot, which he made, and gave the Spurs possession. Ginobili's driving layup tied the score 93-93. "It was kind of like a meltdown," Hamilton said. "But I apologized to my teammates. It was bad on my part. I'm a lot better than that. But it happens sometimes, especially against those guys (the Spurs). The games are physical." Hamilton ..."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince playing well after trade speculation ends
"The two Detroit Pistons most likely to be traded at the deadline that passed Thursday afternoon are playing well. Richard Hamilton is averaging 32.5 points, four rebounds, three assists and two turnovers in the past two games, while Tayshaun Prince had one of his best all-around games of the season Friday night. He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and zero turnovers in a 91-85 loss to Milwaukee. "Tayshaun and Rip are playing at a very high level right now," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "I think it's important that we get everybody to play at that high level." Hamilton said he still feels the effects of a severely sprained ankle that he suffered in ..."
If Pistons are rebuilding, the time for moves is now
"Richard Hamilton wants to retire as a member of the Pistons. But is that realistic in today's NBA? The Pistons are rebuilding, their dominance of the East over. And in that mind-set, Hamilton and possibly Tayshaun Prince, cornerstones of the dynasty, could see themselves wearing something other than the Pistons' colors. Hamilton and Prince are the most likely players to be traded before Thursday's deadline, although Pistons president Joe Dumars insists he wants to take a longer look at his team that has been devastated by injuries, before making any decisions."
Pistons Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince at center of trade rumors
"There's a rumor a minute right now in the NBA, with Thursday's trade deadline approaching. Out of Cleveland there's a report the Pistons would be part of a three-team deal in which Richard Hamilton would land with the Cavaliers. But there's no mention of who the Pistons or Rockets, the third team in the deal, would get in return. Cleveland is known to want to get bigger -- Indiana's Troy Murphy and Washington's Antawn Jamison are possibilities -- but the 6-foot-7 Hamilton doesn't fit the Cavs' needs."
Cavaliers trade talks heating up, may now include Richard Hamilton
"Usually trades aren't completed or announced during All-Star Weekend so there may not be anything done until at least Monday. However, the Cavs have intensified trade talks over the past several days and have been making progress, according to sources. Several sources said the Cavs have included the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons in their conversations, possibly in an attempt to set up three-team deals. The Cavs' major targets are still believed to be forwards Antawn Jamison and Troy Murphy. But they also have had conversations about shooting guards and the talks with the Pistons could involve Richard Hamilton, who has been made available in recent weeks."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton willing to alter his game
"Magic Hamilton? That might be overstating it, but Pistons guard Richard Hamilton wants to pass more and get the ball to open teammates like former Lakers and Michigan State star Magic Johnson. "I have to just be a positive guy on and off the floor," Hamilton said. "That means on the floor, instead of being a scorer, maybe be more of a facilitator and try to get guys open and stuff like that. That might help us get more momentum and more into a rhythm in a game and hopefully get us a win." Hamilton still believes his teammates can score if given the opportunity. Coach John Kuester agrees, but also said the team must do a better job spacing the floor and hitting open shots. He said ..."
Pistons routed by Pacers despite 27 points from Richard Hamilton
"On Wednesday, the Detroit Pistons beat one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. On Friday, they lost to one of the worst -- and they were visibly frustrated about it. Richard Hamilton scored 27 points, but the Pistons played without the energy they had in their previous game and suffered a 105-93 loss to the Indiana Pacers. John Kuester used the word "disappointing" three times before the shortest post-game news conference of his half season as Pistons coach came to an abrupt end. Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva, who had one of his worst games with the team, called the loss "frustrating." And Tayshaun Prince, playing in his first game since returning from a knee injury, was in ..."
Lots of broken down Pistons
"Richard Hamilton (stomach illness) and Chris Wilcox (back) are probable, while Ben Gordon (strained right groin) and Tayshaun Prince (left knee) will be game-time decisions. Will Bynum (left ankle) is listed as out. Kevin Garnett (knee) practiced Tuesday and will travel to Detroit for the game, but he is not expected to play against the Pistons."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton misses game with stomach ailment
"In the second half of Monday's game the Pistons had nine available players. A season-long oddity, the injury/illness situation had completely gotten out of hand. They need healthy bodies. Purchase a ticket, make sure to bring your high-top shoes, and there might be a place for you on the Pistons roster. They battled, this group has rarely given up, but ultimately lost to the Knicks, 99-91, ending a three-game win streak. "We know what we have but we know we haven't had a chance to put it on the floor," said Ben Wallace, who had a season-high 16 points and 14 rebounds. The Pistons feel they have a playoff contending team. But who can tell? They haven't been healthy enough, long enough, ..."
Pistons missing Hamilton at N.Y.
"The Detroit Pistons will try to extend their three-game winning streak without shooting guard Rip Hamilton this afternoon. Hamilton will miss today's game against the Knicks because a stomach illness. Austin Daye will get the start at shooting guard."
Pistons' Hamilton misses game with stomach ailment
"Pistons coach John Kuester often jokes about coming to the arena on game day this season and never knowing who is available. Imagine Kuester's surprise, if that's the right word, to hear Richard Hamilton won't be available Monday afternoon against the Knicks. Hamilton has a stomach ailment. He's listed as day to day."
Restoring Rip's zip a slow process for Hamilton
"Before Friday night's overtime victory over the New Orleans Hornets, Rip Hamilton talked openly about how strange the ball felt when he returned to the Pistons' lineup for good late last month. He knew the strange feeling was going to happen, because every year he has the same experience at the start of training camp, when he has to round himself into shape after rarely picking up a ball for a few months. So neither Hamilton nor the team was surprised that Hamilton didn't perform at a very high level his first nine games back. And after showing improvement with his 32-point effort against the Hornets, he had another off-shooting night in the Pistons' 94-90 victory over the Knicks on ..."
Hamilton still has confidence in his shot
"Richard Hamilton can run all day if needed. He seemingly never gets tired. But after Sunday's grueling practice, where getting up and down the court was what coach John Kuester had in mind for this team, even Hamilton was looking to catch his breath a little bit. Simply put, he looked like a guy who'd been out for almost two months of the season -- and was getting back into prime basketball shape. "They've been hard for me," said Hamilton of the last two days of practices. "I've been huffing and puffing, feeling like training camp. I haven't done this much running in a long time. "It's been tough running around, and bumping and grinding on the floor. It's been fun." What isn't fun is ..."
Prince, Hamilton back in starting lineup for Pistons
"For the first time since opening night, the Pistons are playing with their full roster. Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince were in the starting lineup against the Raptors and Ben Gordon came off the bench. Charlie Villanueva also entered the game in the first quarter, despite lingering pain in his right heel. Prince (ruptured disc) had only played in the first three games of the season. Hamilton (ankle, hamstring) and Gordon (left ankle) have been in and out of the lineup. With the Pistons mired in a six-game losing streak, the atmosphere at practice Saturday and before Sunday's game has been lifted by the presence of the injured players returning."
Pistons injured players...some will play, some will not
"Charlie Villanueva said he will play Tuesday despite plantar fasciitis, while Will Bynum said he will play despite tweaking an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to the Lakers. "It's frustrating because there's a sharp pain every step I make," Villanueva said. "I can't really move out there. I'm very limited." Villanueva suffered a broken nose this month, but has stopped wearing his protective mask. "I'm done with the mask," Villanueva said. "I graduated from the mask. I'm done with it.""
Richard Hamilton, Ben Gordon not likely to play for Pistons tonight
"The Pistons end their three-game road trip, against the Thunder on Friday night, likely without Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon. Both were participants at Friday morning's shootaround, but didn't do much. "What you saw in New Orleans (on Wednesday) is what you're going to get tonight," said coach John Kuester, noting the lineup against the Hornets was without Hamilton and Gordon. Kuester, though, said both would be re-evaluated before game time. Hamilton tweaked his hamstring Tuesday in Houston. Gordon has missed the last five games with a sprained left ankle."
Rip Hamilton injures hamstring in Pistons' first loss in six games
"Just what the Pistons need - another injury. After his team saw its five-game winning streak end at the hands of the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, shooting guard Rip Hamilton said afterward that he injured his right hamstring during the game. Hamilton had no idea of the severity or his status for Wednesday night's game at New Orleans, but he had both hamstrings wrapped in ice after a game where he was pretty much the offensive focal point. He scored 21 points in the Pistons' 106-97 loss. It was just Hamilton's second game back after returning Saturday night in the team's home victory over the Golden State Warriors. He had missed 21 games because of a severely sprained right ankle ..."
Rip Hamilton praises Pistons coach John Kuester, team's pluck
"Rip Hamilton is a proud guy, nowadays. He sees how this young group of Pistons didn't give in to despair when veterans like Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince and Ben Gordon missed substantial time because of injuries. He's thankful because after his return Saturday night in a victory over the Golden State Warriors, the Pistons are in good shape in the early-season playoff chase. Hamilton sees the team's 11-12 record and five-game winning streak as evidence that first-year coach John Kuester is the right man for the job. "He really showed he can coach with the guys out on the floor," Hamilton said Monday at the Pistons' practice facility. "That says a whole lot, and you give a whole lot of credit ..."
Richard Hamilton likes Pistons' chances
"Richard Hamilton took the last six weeks to sit back and evaluate the new-look Pistons. From his front-row seat on the bench and while sitting on the training table, he saw a team filled with grit and determination. They lost more times than they won, but Hamilton was encouraged enough to believe the Pistons (11-12) can make a playoff run when healthy. He's expected to play tonight at Houston, his second game since twisting his right ankle in the second game of the season. The Pistons carry a five-game winning streak into the game. Although guards Ben Gordon and Will Bynum are listed as questionable for tonight's 8:30 game, Gordon hinted that he will play and Bynum was shooting and ..."
Richard Hamilton 'just wanted to get on the floor' against Warriors
"Sore, but smiling. That would be a good way to describe Richard Hamilton after he went through a short practice with his Detroit Pistons teammates Sunday afternoon. Hamilton played extended minutes and scored 18 points Saturday night in a 104-95 win over the Golden State Warriors. It was Hamilton's first game back after sitting out 21 games with a severely sprained ankle, so Detroit Pistons coach John Kuester was expecting him to be a bit sore. "Yeah, I was," Kuester said, "especially since his head coach is an idiot, playing him 36 minutes and all." Kuester had planned to play Hamilton about 24 minutes, but at certain points in the game when he wanted to take Hamilton out, his ..."
Pistons stay afloat despite Richard Hamilton's absence
"The story after Saturday's victory over Golden State was the return of Richard Hamilton. But it's one of the mainstays this season, Rodney Stuckey, who's been a headliner lately. While winning their last five games, the Pistons are seeing Stuckey at his best -- he's averaging 25 points in the winning streak and dominating at both ends of the court. "Looking at our team I'm not sure if there were many players that had a better week than (Rodney) Stuckey did," said coach John Kuester, who has been trumpeting Stuckey's talent and potential from the start of training camp. Said veteran point guard Chucky Atkins: "Rodney Stuckey is a guy who's hard to stop, the way he's attacking the basket ..."
Hamilton scores 18 points in surprising return to Pistons
"The loudest cheers in pregame introductions at the Palace on Saturday night were reserved for the masked shooting guard. Rip Hamilton, who had missed 21 games since the opener at Memphis with a severely sprained right ankle, returned to the Pistons' lineup. And there was no time to ease back into things as he played 36 minutes and scored 18 points in the Pistons' 104-95 victory. Hamilton showed some rust as he lost his balance several times on drives to the basket, shot only 6-for-15 and didn't have his normal lift on his jumper. But the team showed no hesitation in calling his trademark play of curling around screens for his trusty midrange jumper. And when the Warriors (7-16) pulled to ..."
Pistons victorious in Richard Hamilton's return
"The Pistons made sure Richard Hamilton had a successful return to the lineup. Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 29 and had seven assists, and Charlie Villanueva had 24 points and nine rebounds as the Pistons defeated the Warriors, 104-95, Saturday night at the Palace. "We knew this was going to be a dangerous game," coach John Kuester said. "Golden State is a dangerous team. They're capable of scoring 30 points in a quarter, like they did to us in the first quarter. We really did grind it out tonight." The Pistons have won five straight, their longest win streak of the season. "And we've been beating some good teams as well," Stuckey said. "That's saying a lot right there. Not having ..."
Pistons guard Richard Hamilton anticipates he'll return to action by Jan. 1
"From online chats and e-mails, it's apparent that Pistons conspiracy buffs are working overtime. They seem to think the prolonged absences of Rip Hamilton (severely sprained right ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (ruptured disk) are evidence of an impending trade. They point to the fact that Hamilton doesn't sit with the team during games and say that's proof. Well, Hamilton said before Wednesday night's game against the 76ers that there's a good reason for that -- he's getting treatment for the injury he suffered in the opener at Memphis. "It's 24-7," he told the Free Press. And he had some more good news -- he's feeling a lot better, and he expects to be back in the lineup by Jan. 1. ..."
Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton near return
"Maybe, just maybe, the Pistons are going to see their roster healthy again. Tayshaun Prince (small ruptured disc) and Richard Hamilton (severely sprained right ankle) continue to do a little more in practice each day. Prince, especially, seems to be moving more freely. Neither has gone through a full practice, but they're getting to that point. "It is optimistic," coach John Kuester said. "Seeing them on the floor and doing things (strength and conditioning coach) Arnie (Kander) has them doing, certainly they're getting close. "Unfortunately, right now we don't have a lot of time for practice, and we're in and out (of cities). They're starting to get involved in some of it, Tayshaun ..."
Hamilton, Prince and Charlie V close to returning for Pistons
"Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton (ankle) was on the practice court this afternoon. So was forward Tayshaun Prince (back). That was the good news. The bad news: both Ben Gordon (left ankle) and super sub Will Bynum (right ankle) were sitting with their feet in ice as the Pistons' roster continues to take a beating heading into Friday's game against Milwaukee. Coach John Kuester did say that forward Charlie Villanueva would play against his old teammates after having surgery on his broken nose this week. He'll wear a mask. "It's a UConn thing,'' Kuester said of the mask, which has been a mainstay for Hamilton since he broke his nose twice during the 2003-04 season. "They're getting ..."
The vinegar was still lingering from Sunday's loss in Detroit at the Hawks' practice Monday.
"With a full roster, the Hawks lost 94-88 to a Pistons team that was without guards Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon and forward Tayshaun Prince, a trio who last year averaged a combined 53.2 points. Detroit then lost starting forward Charlie Villanueva in the fourth quarter. The Hawks were still out-rebounded 53-27 and 24-6 on the offensive glass, allowing the Pistons to break a seven-game losing streak. "It gets me frustrated because we have a talented group of guys," forward Josh Smith said. "We're coming to a situation like that, where pretty much all their core scorers are gone. It's kind of disheartening to lose a game like that because when you're going into the postseason and you're ..."
John Kuester on all the Pistons' injuries: 'Goodness, gracious'
"Tayshaun Prince was sitting next to him with a bad back, and Rip Hamilton was in The Palace nursing a severely sprained right ankle. So you could only imagine what was going through coach John Kuester's mind when Ben Gordon sprained his left ankle in the second quarter of Wednesday's 98-88 loss to Cleveland. "I just went, 'Goodness, gracious,'" said Kuester, who is having a baptism by fire as a first-year NBA head coach. "(But) that's part of the NBA. You never want to see a player go down. (But) our guys rallied and played real hard." Gordon is listed as day-to-day, but judging from the way he was limping after the game, it'll be a surprise if he plays Friday against the Los Angeles ..."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince go through light practice
"In a small bit of good news, shooting guard Rip Hamilton (ankle) and small forward Tayshaun Prince (back) got in a little work at practice today as the Detroit Pistons prepared for Saturday night's game at Utah. Hamilton took shots for the first time since he sprained his ankle in the season opener. But he didn't run nor jump, so it doesn't appear that he's close to returning. Prince took some shots and also did some light jogging but said he wasn't ready for contact yet."
Pistons' Hamilton ruled out of Wednesday's game
"Richard Hamilton's severely sprained right ankle is going to idle him at least one more game. Coach John Kuester ruled Hamilton out for Wednesday's game against Charlotte. Hamilton isn't walking around with as significant of a limp as he did after spraining his ankle Opening Night in Memphis. But there's obviously enough discomfort to keep him out of the lineup. The Pistons are also without Tayshaun Prince, who is out indefinitely with a small ruptured disc"
Hamilton, Prince to miss Pistons game
"The Pistons aren't going to have Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince tonight when they face the Orlando Magic. This will be the fifth game Hamilton has missed with a sprained right ankle. Prince will miss his second game with a lower back problem."
Rip Hamilton sorely missed; Tayshaun on trade block?
"Ben Gordon just laughed after Wednesday's loss at Toronto when asked whether teams were playing him differently since Rip Hamilton has missed the last four games with a sprained right ankle. "Honestly, I haven't played with Rip enough to tell if that's the case or not," Gordon said with a grin. "Obviously, our guards are getting a lot of attention because we rely on our perimeter players to score a lot." That's somewhat of an understatement as Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum and Gordon have pretty much carried the offense most of the season. But you can probably make a case that the team would be undefeated if Hamilton hadn't missed any time."
Rip Hamilton might miss two more Pistons games
"When he first sprained his right ankle, Rip Hamilton said it felt like his "ankle actually hit the floor." That was the first sign that it wasn't a run-of-the-mill ankle sprain. As a matter of fact, the Pistons and Hamilton probably are lucky it isn't broken. In the meantime, the Pistons probably will be without Hamilton the next two games -- definitely Tuesday night's home contest against the Magic and likely Wednesday's game at Toronto, too. Hamilton hurt his ankle with five minutes left in the season opener at Memphis. An initial X ray proved negative. The Pistons took another X ray as a precaution when he returned to Detroit, and it also was negative. Still, there was massive swelling ..."
Pistons guard Richard Hamilton out of Tuesday's game
"The Pistons are going to be without Richard Hamilton for at least one more game. Bothered by a sprained right ankle, Hamilton will miss his third consecutive game Tuesday when Detroit hosts Orlando. "He will not play tomorrow, and (strength and conditioning coach) Arnie (Kander) lists him after that as day to day," coach John Kuester said."
Pistons' Hamilton out for two games
"Richard Hamilton (sprained right ankle) will miss tonight's home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Pistons coach John Kuester said he will also miss Saturday night's game at Milwaukee. Ben Gordon, who was signed in the off-season, will get the start in place of the 10-year veteran."
Pistons' Richard Hamilton injures ankle
"The Detroit Pistons easily defeated Memphis 96-74 on Wednesday, but the victory might prove to be quite costly. With less than 5 minutes to play in the game, Pistons guard Richard Hamilton injured his right ankle when he was fouled by O.J. Mayo. After making one of two free throws, Detroit had to call a 20-second timeout to get him out of the game. X-rays were negative, but that doesn't mean Hamilton is out of the woods yet. The ankle is sore to the point where he had to be carted into the locker room afterward in a wheelchair. "Usually, I try to walk it off, but when I went to the free throw line, I couldn't push off of it," Hamilton said."
Richard Hamilton-Ben Gordon tandem key as Pistons beat Grizzlies, 96-74, in opener
"Ben Gordon and Richard Hamilton are high-scoring guards. When they're on top of their games on the same night, they can be a handful. The Memphis Grizzlies found this out the hard way. The Gordon-Hamilton tandem proved to be too much as the Pistons had little trouble putting away the Grizzlies, 96-74, in their season opener. "I'll give Detroit credit," said Zach Randolph, a Memphis forward from Michigan State. "Richard and Ben (Gordon) were on fire tonight and made tough shots." Hamilton, who left the game in the fourth quarter with a right ankle injury, led all scorers with 25 points, and Gordon scored 22 off the bench as his backup. Detroit has won six of its past eight season openers. ..."
Richard Hamilton, Allen Iverson agree: Curry caused Pistons' problems
"Memphis Grizzlies guard Allen Iverson says his time in Detroit would have been more pleasant had John Kuester been the coach instead of Michael Curry. "It would have been a hundred percent different -- a thousand percent better," said Iverson, who won't play Wednesday night in the Grizzlies' opener against the Pistons as he's recovering from a hamstring injury. "I would have known what I was getting into. Kue would have been straightforward with me on how things were going to be." Iverson knows Kuester from Kuester's days as an assistant under Larry Brown. Iverson was acquired by the Pistons from Denver for Chauncey Billups last season. "I was ecstatic about it (the trade) when I first ..."
Rip Hamilton, Allen Iverson agree: Curry caused Pistons' problems
Pistons' Richard Hamilton misses practice, expected to play in opener
"Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton was excused from Tuesday's practice to attend to a personal matter. It is unclear if he will fly out of Detroit with the team today, but coach John Kuester said Hamilton is expected to be in uniform for the Wednesday's season opener at Memphis."
Guards pace Pistons in preseason win vs. Hawks
"One of Detroit Pistons coach John Kuester's themes is taking advantage of his team's strengths, and his team is blessed at the guard position. Ben Gordon scored 22 points, Rodney Stuckey 20, Richard Hamilton 15 and Will Bynum had 11 as the Pistons raced past the Atlanta Hawks 100-91 in a preseason game at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Sunday night. "I don't want (Stuckey) to slow down," Kuester said. "I don't want Will Bynum to slow down. I don't want (Hamilton) or Ben Gordon to slow down. I want them to be in an attack mode and create things for themselves for others by doing that." Despite a sluggish start and 21 turnovers, Detroit moved to 3-0 in the preseason at the expense of a team ..."
Chicago rumor has Bulls' Ben Gordon coming to Pistons, Rip Hamilton traded
"A blog posted this week about the future of the Chicago Bulls reads more like the Detroit Pistons' rumor du jour. Sam Smith, a former Chicago Tribune reporter who now writes for bulls.com, says that the agent for Chicago guard Ben Gordon has been talking about a promise his client has from the Pistons. Apparently, it's a pretty serious promise: $11-million per year for the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent. The writer finds it hard to believe that the Pistons would truly be interested in yet another shooting guard. But that idea winds up pointing to another rumor - this one involving a trade for Richard Hamilton. Here's an excerpt of Smith's reasoning:"
New Orleans Hornets continue to be mentioned in rumored trade deals
"Although the New Orleans Hornets are one loss away from elimination in their best-of-seven series against the Denver Nuggets, there is speculation the franchise could go through an extensive housecleaning this summer to revamp its roster and avoid having to pay the luxury tax. But 10 days ago, New Orleans General Manager Jeff Bower said their evaluations will be based on what they do in the playoffs. The Nuggets hold a 3-1 lead series entering tonight's Game 5 at the Pepsi Center. In Game 4, the Hornets lost by a 58-point margin at home, tying an NBA record for worst playoff loss. Despite rampant trade rumors since March, the Hornets cannot not begin making trades until this July because ..."
Cleveland Cavaliers' Delonte West happy to get rest after defending Rip Hamilton
"It is popular to say that the playoffs are a marathon and not a sprint. But defending Rip Hamilton in a single playoff series can be a true marathon. The Pistons create shots for their leading scorer - and have done so for years - by running Hamilton and his defender all over the court and through numerous screens. It is not unusual for Hamilton to cross the court two or three times in a single possession. This not only takes advantage of Hamilton's catch-and-shoot ability, but it wears his defender out. In a playoff series that takes place over a couple of weeks, it can have a cumulative effect on the poor defender. So, it's not a surprise that Hamilton has been the Pistons' leading ..."
Will Rip return soon? Yes, sir!
"Rip Hamilton was working up a good sweat Thursday morning. At the Palace practice facility following the Pistons' shoot-around in preparation for a visit from the Lakers later that evening, Hamilton ran to a spot, caught a pass from strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander, and knocked down his customary mid-range jump shot. He was cutting and running, showing few signs of the sore left groin that sidelined him for 14 games this season. And when he was finished, as he walked toward the team's weight equipment, a reporter yelled, "Close?" And Hamilton replied: "Yes, sir!" Later that day, coach Michael Curry gave the ultimate indicator that Hamilton was feeling better: He announced that ..."
Pistons' Hamilton says agent stole $1 million from him
"A sports agent and former Connecticut basketball student manager is guilty of recruiting violations in the men's program, Yahoo! Sports is reporting. Agent Josh Nochimson also is accused by Richard Hamilton of stealing more than $1 million from the Detroit Pistons player, according to the story. "He was pretty much running his business as an agent off of me," Hamilton is quoted as saying. Hamilton played for Connecticut from 1996-99. He fired Nochimson as his agent in 2008."
Pistons' Hamilton not likely to play vs. Bulls
"It'll continue to be a depleted group of Pistons that travels to Chicago Tuesday night. Allen Iverson (back) and Rasheed Wallace (calf) are both out for the game against the Bulls, and Richard Hamilton (groin) is unlikely to play, coach Michael Curry said after Monday's practice. "With Rip it's a matter of feel," said Curry, noting Hamilton's style of play, constantly in motion. "It's not likely (Hamilton will play), but I don't want to rule him out. Sheed's out.""
