Rajon Rondo News & Rumors

Rajon Rondo dazzles on and off floor
"Rajon Rondo won the most important battle he faced last night late in what was an oddly difficult evening. He won the one over himself and because he did, his Boston Celtics won the most important battle they faced on an equally oddly difficult evening — the one over the Philadelphia 76ers. If ever there was a case of mind over what's the matter, this Game 7 victory was it. Shoddily played for much of the evening, the Celtics' 85-75 victory really was as simple as that. Rondo fought off self-doubt and righteous anger at his own erratic performance early in the game and put up nine straight points in a mini-run late in the final period that turned a tantalizingly thin three-point lead into"
Assist needed from Rondo
"Rajon Rondo is full of surprises. In his line of work, this unpredictable quality is sometimes good, sometimes bad. The good: It gives his point guard play a mad-genius edge, the kind that produces fake behind-the-back passes and prompts "M-V-P'' chants at TD Garden. With the ball in his hands, he teases opponents and mesmerizes fans. The bad: An unpredictable personality manifests in maddeningly inconsistent play. He disappears sometimes rather than dominates with a style that seemingly yields triple-doubles at will. Game 6 in Philadelphia is the most recent example of Rondo gone awry, a 9-point, 9-rebound, 6-assist effort that ranks as substandard for the point guard who's averaging 13.5"
Like it or not, Rondo needs to be the man
"Rajon Rondo is often viewed as the Celtics catalyst. "Oh man, that's a lot of pressure," Rondo said yesterday. But the statement's spot on. When the 26-year-old point guard is on his game, the Celtics are a different team and capable of putting up 100 points. When he's not, like in Wednesday's 82-75 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Celtics offense usually falters. And after his nine-point and six-assist performance in Game 6, the Celts will need Rondo to be on point for tonight's Game 7. "I've heard it before. I don't know if it's true," said Rondo. "We're a team. I think we're one of the few teams in the NBA that all five guys can contribute. We're not just a one- or two-man show."
Rajon Rondo's play goes bad
"Bad news for the Celtics last night. Bad Rondo showed up at the Wells Fargo Center. And he wasn't alone. Along with him came Bad Kevin, Bad Ray and colossally bad Brandon, but Rajon Rondo had one of his worst games of the playoffs when the Celtics needed him most, so a brutal fact of life continued for Doc Rivers. Rondo giveth and Rondo taketh away. The Celtics point guard wasn't the only one playing as if it had been a pointless exercise to make the trip to Philadelphia for what could have been a close out game in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Other than Paul Pierce (24 points, 13-of-13 from the line), it was difficult to fathom who played well in a dismal 82-75 loss to the"
Keys to a Sixer win: Stop Rondo, never say die
"Rajon Rondo led the NBA with nearly 12 assists per game during the regular season. In this Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Sixers, that number has jumped to 14.6. Rondo is a true facilitator and on the floor he gets where he wants to go. At times, he gambles, but opponents have a difficult time impeding his play. He is just a special player. "We know he doesn't want to shoot the jump shot too much," said Sixers point guard Jrue Holiday at the team's practice at PCOM Tuesday. "He is dangerous going to the basket, how he kind of weaves through crowds and how he just makes plays for people. He is definitely their playmaker on that team.""
Rajon Rondo laments fast pace
"As the Celtics' master of tempo, Rajon Rondo takes it personally when his team doesn't move at the appropriate speed. And as he could tell, there was a lot not to like about the Celtics' second-half collapse in last night's 92-83 Game 4 loss to Philadelphia. "They sped us up a little bit," he said of the 76ers' game-turning 15-2 run in the third quarter. "They took some quick shots, we had some turnovers in that stretch, and they made shots. "In that stretch I had to do a better job of slowing us down and getting us into the next set. I had to demand that guys get into the right spots offensively. It's a calculation for me of when we're doing a good job in random and when we're not in that"
Rajon Rondo attacks at will
"Hours before Rajon Rondo shredded the Philadelphia 76ers defense, Celtics coach Doc Rivers had a sense his point guard was going to be on his game. "I thought he set the tone for us," Rivers said after the Celtics beat the Sixers, 107-91, in last night's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. "I thought Rondo was extremely serious in shootaround this morning. I thought he really set the tone for our mental approach and that's what we need to stay in." Rondo had 23 points, 14 assists, six rebounds and just one turnover to help the Celtics take a 2-1 series lead. While Kevin Garnett again led the way with 27 points and Paul Pierce added a resurgent 23 points, it's no coincidence that"
C's the day with Rajon Rondo
"As Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers was approaching yesterday, one thought kept crossing my mind. Where have all those people who wanted to trade away Rajon Rondo for a pair of doorknobs and a basketball pump gone? You haven't heard much from them lately, especially after Rondo posted his eighth career playoff triple-double in Game 1 against the Sixers, a performance without which the Celtics would have been down 0-1 rather than up 1-0 going into last night's game at the Garden."
Rondo offered a wake-up call
"Rajon Rondo said he didn't get to nap before the game, so he didn't know what to expect when the Celtics took the floor for the first game of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Philadelphia 76ers Saturday night at TD Garden. "I was struggling with my shot a little,'' said Rondo. "I was turning the ball over, so I was trying to do the intangibles and do everything I could to help my team. I came up with some rebounds, I came up with some assists.'' It was a slow start for the Celtics, particularly for their starters. Kevin Garnett (29 points) seemed to be dragging his teammates through the game. But just when it seemed as if he wasn't going to make a difference, there was"
Rajon Rondo puts 'em to sleep
"So when, exactly, did Rajon Rondo push the ref and get suspended for a playoff game? Was that a couple of weeks ago or a couple of years ago? The correct date was April 30, which was when the NBA handed down its suspension in the wake of Rondo's little chest bump with Marc Davis. It only seems like it was a couple of years ago, given the mature, measured and savvy performance that Rondo contributed in the Celtics' 92-91 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals last night at the Garden. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Rondo had that little spat with the camera person the other day in Atlanta, and he also wore that goofy coat that had Charles Barkley guffawing"
Atlanta Hawks: Reining in Rondo
"Rajon Rondo had a triple-double in Game 3 but his 0.57 points per possession were worst on the team, according to Synergy Sports Technology. So Jeff Teague isn't wrong when he says of Rondo: "He's going to penetrate. He's a good player. Some plays you have to live with. Just like guys on our team are going to make plays and they have to live with it. There's a reason he's one of the best point guards in the league.""
Rondo leads the way, as adventure continues
"Amazingly, Rajon Rondo's 20th career triple-double was hardly his best performance. In addition to his 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists, he also missed 15 shots, and he was so skittish about the approaching Jason Collins on his breakaway layup - sort of like a rhinoceros chasing a gazelle - that he botched the shot, looking like he had been felled by a hunter. Friday night was an adventure for Rondo, but again it encapsulated his entire six-year career with the Celtics. His return from a one-game suspension for chest-bumping official Marc Davis was going to be nothing short of exciting. He was a busy bee during the Celtics' 90-84 overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of their"
Rajon Rondo proves a triple threat once again
"Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo performed his required duties in triplicate during last night's 90-84 overtime victory against the Atlanta Hawks at the Garden. Rondo compiled 17 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists for his seventh career postseason triple-double. The accomplishment came after he was suspended for Game 2 for bumping referee Marc Davis. Rondo returned from his exile and played 49 minutes — on his terms. "I kept attacking and it was just a matter of timing," said Rondo. "There were some turnovers in the first half. I missed a couple of shots but my teammates believed in me and told me to keep going." Rondo finished with the kind of numbers that qualify as a career night for"
Rajon Rondo points right way
"It's a cherished Celtics bedtime story: A long, long time ago, a young man named Paul Pierce made a colossal fool of himself during a playoff game against the Indiana Pacers. But the young man matured as he aged, and he became a leader. The Paul Pierce we watch in today's NBA is more than a great player; he is one of the game's ambassadors. We tell you all that so that we can now tell you this: Part of the reason Rajon Rondo received such a huge ovation when he was introduced before the Celtics' Game 3 showdown against the Atlanta Hawks last night at the Garden is because Boston sports fans view him as the future. True, it's possible he might not be the Celtics' future, given that"
Battling Rajon Rondo not apologetic
"It's abundantly clear that punishment hasn't mellowed Rajon Rondo. He was fighting for each inch of the interview when he made his first public comments following a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee last Sunday. Doc Rivers had told reporters that Rondo thanked his teammates for defeating the Hawks without him and evening the series at 1-1 on Tuesday. But the petulant point guard wasn't carrying any contrition when he stepped onto the practice court and into the firing squad of pens and microphones and cameras yesterday. "The end result is all that matters," Rondo said. "If there had been a different result, it would have been very difficult. But since we won, it felt"
Rajon Rondo, Josh Smith bring a close relationship to postseason series
"Something about the girl immediately hit Josh Smith, like the thunderbolt that struck Michael Corleone the moment he saw the beautiful Apollonia. Smith and his new best friend, Rajon Rondo, had just walked into a Louisville store owned by former Kentucky and NBA star Derek Anderson, and he was entranced. But Smith was also too shy to approach her, so he goaded Rondo. Go on, do me this favor. But Rondo was even shier, and they left the store after a lot of looks and maybe a nod, but not one word. Rondo had come home for the senior prom at his old high school — Eastern — and Smith tagged along. It was an opportunity to see Rondo's hometown, eat his mother's cooking, and just generally become"
Celtics reflect on Rondo ban
"It is fair to say the Celtics were fully expecting Rajon Rondo to be suspended for last night's Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks — at least. So sure were the Celts that their All-Star point guard was held out of Monday's practice, which took place a few hours before the NBA handed down its ruling. Coach Doc Rivers and the brass had seen the replays of Rondo bumping into referee Marc Davis enough to know that it would be hard to argue the contact was accidental and not intentional. Under NBA rules, intentional contact leads to an automatic one-game suspension. But when you factor in Rondo's visible and audible anger at the time and the fact he'd already been hit with a two-game suspension"
Rajon Rondo's act only serves to help Hawks
"It was a bad call by a bad official at the end of a pretty bad basketball game, and no one could blame Rajon Rondo for being upset. He had played a terrific game, and it was just about over. Josh Smith's two free throws would give the Hawks a six-point lead with 41 seconds to go, and the Celtics hadn't made a 3-pointer all night. The Celtics made a nice comeback in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series, but they would come up short. Rondo had played his heart out for 43 minutes and now he had no reason to hold back. Finally he could give referee Marc Davis a piece of his mind. Rondo could tell Davis what a lousy ref he is and just go all Mel Gibson on him. He could have gotten two"
Sometimes Rajon Rondo's the man, sometimes just a kid
"It is generally rather easy to judge an NBA player, placing credits and debits in each column until there is a preponderance on one side. But the scales of Rajon Rondo move up and down wildly, like a seesaw in a storm. The Celtics' All-Star point guard is alternately the most unique and driven talent in the NBA and a foolishly emotional child whose fits of pique can cost his team dearly. Rajon Rondo is the warrior who played on through the Miami playoff series with a mangled left elbow last year. And he is the picture of roundball rage who not only picked up a technical foul with his team trailing by four points in the final minute Sunday, but who continued the argument until he had made"
NBA contacts Rajon Rondo about one-game ban
"For the second time this season, Rajon Rondo discovered how the NBA feels about players who cross the line with referees. Just over two months after he was suspended for two games after throwing a ball at an official, the Celtics point guard yesterday was suspended for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series tonight against the Atlanta Hawks for bumping referee Marc Davis with 41 seconds left in the Game 1 loss. Rondo didn't join his team on the practice floor at Georgia Tech until the doors were closed to the media and had no further comment on the incident."
Rondo suspended for Game 2
"A league source has confirmed that Rajon Rondo has been suspended one game for making contact with referee Marc Davis in the final minute of the Celtics' Game 1 playoff loss to the Hawks. The NBA spoke with Rondo, coach Doc Rivers and others involved this morning before rendering its decision. According to a different source, the Celtics may be fortunate that the penalty will cost Rondo just the one game — tomorrow night's Game 2 here. There was said to be serious consideration given to a longer penalty in that Rondo was aggressively moving toward the official to argue what he believed were two missed calls."
Stern: Rondo 'obviously' bumped ref
"NBA commissioner David Stern was on ESPN Radio with Colin Cowherd on Monday morning and was asked what his eyes told him about Rajon Rondo bumping referee Marc Davis in the closing minute of last night's Celtics-Hawks game (story HERE). From the sound of Stern, it doesn't seem like Rondo is going to avoid a suspension for his actions. "I don't want to pre-judge on what the recommendation is going to be," Stern said. "But as a fan, he obviously bumped him. And you know what happens with respect to that." There have been three instances this season where a player or coach has been suspended for a game for bumping a referee. "We have a hard and fast rule," Stern said. "Unless somebody trips"
Bump in road for Rajon Rondo
"With 41 seconds left in last night's 83-74 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, Rajon Rondo lost control. As a result, the Celtics point guard's status is out of his control for tomorrow's Game 2 of the first-round series. The Celtics trailed by four points with 41 seconds remaining and nearly had caused a turnover, but Atlanta's Josh Smith dove on the loose ball at the top of the key. Celtics forward Brandon Bass tried to tie up the ball, but instead wrapped his arms around Smith, drawing a foul call by referee Marc Davis. Rondo was right next to the scrum and flew off the handle when Davis made the foul call. Rondo clapped his hands in anger, stepped at Davis and screamed in the referee's face to"
Rondo hoping to avoid suspension
"Rajon Rondo could be facing a suspension after making contact with official Marc Davis in the final minute of the Celtics' 83-74 loss to the Atlanta Hawks Sunday night. Rondo had been suspended for two games after being ejected for tossing the ball at official Sean Wright in a 96-81 loss at Detroit Feb. 19."
Rondo OK after hard fall
"A few minutes into the third quarter at Madison Square Garden last night, the Celtics' season passed before their eyes. Rajon Rondo hit the floor on his back with a thud that could be heard back in Boston. But after a few minutes down as he received medical attention, Rondo got up and was helped to the Celtics bench. Then the point guard did something really wild — he remained in the game. "Fine other than the loss," Rondo said of his condition after going for 13 points and 13 assists in the 118-110 loss to the Knicks. "I just iced it. I'm fine.""
Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics deal Charlotte Bobcats 16th straight defeat
"Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas had the right idea: Run a team that was playing its third game in three nights. Run a team that was without three of its four stars, and so inevitably shorthanded. But in basketball, you can't run if you don't get stops and if you don't rebound. The Bobcats did neither of those things Sunday, and they certainly never contained Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo in a 94-82 loss."
Rajon Rondo triples up again
"In a season when Rajon Rondo has lit up the NBA assist chart like a pinball machine, here's a fresh line to consider. His 10-point, 20-assist, 10-rebound triple double in last night's 88-86 overtime win over Atlanta is only the seventh in the NBA since 1986 with at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and 20 assists, according to CSNNE statistician and Bentley College sports information director Dick Lipe. The last five of those belong to Rondo. Last night also marked his 19th straight game with a double-digit assist performance. John Stockton set the NBA record with 29 straight games in 1992. This is rare ground for any point guard."
Rajon Rondo finds motivation to end turnover trend
"In the third quarter, with the shot clock running down, Rajon Rondo had the ball on one corner of the baseline. He quickly dribbled under the hoop to the other corner and as the 24 seconds expired, hit a turnaround fade-away jumper. While the basket was pretty and put the Celtics up 74-47 with 4:18 to go, it was not the entire story of Rondo's third quarter. This was only two of his seven points during last night's 103-79 win over Philadelphia as the point guard collected his 17th consecutive game with double-digit assists, making 15. Heading into halftime up by 14 points, the Celtics should have been in good spirits. But not Rondo. He was upset after turning the ball over five times in"
Rondo posts another triple-double in win over Heat
"Rajon Rondo might not know the reason why he plays his best games in the national spotlight. There might not even be a reasonable explanation for why he does it. But the numbers don't lie, and the Celtics point guard proved yet again to be a menace on the court when the cameras are brightest. Rondo toyed with the Miami Heat in a 91-72 victory yesterday at the Garden with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists to record his fifth triple-double of the season. Fourteen of Rondo's 18 career triple-doubles have come during nationally televised games. He has accounted for 35 percent of the 14 triple-doubles in the NBA this season."
Rondo helps the cause
"Rajon Rondo totaled 17 assists, his 12th successive double-figure total, as the Celtics took a 100-79 win over the Timberwolves Friday night. "You all are about to jinx me,'' Rondo said when reminded of the streak. "Watch, the next night I'll get two assists. "We got a good rhythm. It all starts with defense - when we get stops like that. Playing with Avery [Bradley] helps my assists, he's probably the best cutter in the league in these last games. He's a great asset to my assists. Kevin [Garnett] and Brandon [Bass] knocking down jump shots, [Paul Pierce] on a roll. But it all starts with defense.''"
Rajon Rondo's run real assist for Celts
"In the past month, the top two trending topics in regard to Rajon Rondo [stats] have been, in order, whether he was going to get his skinny self shipped out of town and his shooting. The latter breaks down into two sub-categories — not shooting enough and not shooting well enough. But it might be wise to interject here that the Celtics point guard is on a rather historic run. Rondo has had double-figure assists in his last 11 games, a streak not seen since Deron Williams had a similar streak in February and March 2009 (Steve Nash did it in January and February 2007). Next up is Nash's 14-game stretch in March and April 2005. (Note: The Elias Sports Bureau wouldn't tell the Celts the NBA"
Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley form winning combo
"The pairing of Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley has happened purely by accident, and could disappear in a wink if Ray Allen's tender ankle is healthy enough for a return tonight against Utah. But for the short time Doc Rivers was forced to start his two point guards in tandem over the last two games, the Celtics actually benefited from the emergency measure. Granted, their modest winning streak was recorded against two of the worst teams in the league — Washington and Charlotte."
Celtics' Rajon Rondo is subject of trade talks
"The Lakers and Boston Celtics hate each other, an animosity that extends into the front offices of the two teams. ... Not really. The teams talked last week about a trade for Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, though nothing was close to accomplished and discussions dried up. The Lakers are unwilling to trade Pau Gasol for Rondo, making a deal with Boston unlikely before the trade deadline Thursday. "Unless they give up Gasol, they're not going to get a top-level point guard," said a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to discuss it publicly."
Bad Service from Celtics
"A league source confirmed last night Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce were fined for missing their NBA Day of Service appearances during All-Star weekend in Orlando, Fla. A USA Today report listed the fines — also assessed to Kobe Bryant — at $20,000 apiece, though the source would not confirm the amount. Rondo declined comment, saying, "If I talk about it, they'll just fine me again." This is not the first time the Celtics have fumbled their Day of Service commitment. Last season in Los Angeles, Pierce, Rondo, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen all did not show up for their scheduled public service appearances, much to the chagrin of Doc Rivers, who did honor his commitment and later noted LeBron"
Rondo finally hits his stride
"Early in the season, there was talk of trading Rajon Rondo. Then, there was a perceived All-Star Game snub. Like waving a red cape before a bull, those are the types of things which get Rondo going. And, similar to the bull realizing he is getting excited about nothing more than a piece of cloth, Rondo eventually settled down once it was confirmed he was not going to be playing for New Orleans."
When Rajon Rondo rises, Kevin Garnett sees it coming
"Kevin Garnett apparently possesses a superpower: The Celtics forward claims he can read notoriously mercurial teammate Rajon Rondo. To most, Rondo is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. That famous quote was initially uttered by Winston Churchill about Russia in 1939, but Rondo is no easier to decipher. The last two weeks have added several chapters to Rondo's magical mystery tour. He was suspended for two games for throwing the ball at a referee. He participated in his third career All-Star Game. He had a bizarre 0-point, 11-assist, 5-turnover line in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was the subject of intense trade rumors. He was adamantly defended by team president"
Rondo's triple-double lifts Celts over Lin, Knicks
"Jeremy Lin got booed by the Boston crowd when he touched the ball, got in early foul trouble, got harassed by the Celtics defenders in the paint and got outclassed by Rajon Rondo and his historic triple-double. A Harvard economics class was much easier by comparison. Lin needed help in his old college stomping grounds and he didn't get it from wingman Carmelo Anthony. Anthony spoiled his solid fourth quarter by missing a potential game-winning 16-foot jumper at the buzzer, then petered out in overtime as the Celtics posted a 115-111 victory at the raucous TD Garden."
Knicks lose to Celtics; Rondo outplays Lin, Davis
"The point-guard phenomenon of the day was not on the Knicks side. Boston's Rajon Rondo outclassed the Knicks' point-guard duo of Jeremy Lin and Baron Davis and the Celtics survived Carmelo Anthony's late fourth-quarter assault to eke out a 115-111 overtime victory Sunday at the TD Garden. It was the Knicks' 11th straight defeat at the arena. Rondo did everything but get a graduate degree from Harvard this afternoon, with a historic triple-double of 18 points, 20 assists and career-high 17 rebounds. The Knicks blew a 3-point lead in the final 18 seconds of regulation."
Danny Ainge thinks Rajon Rondo stays
"Rajon Rondo's trade status and thorny nature are again the stuff of national speculation, and Danny Ainge isn't surprised. "It's never stopped," the Celtics president said yesterday after the latest wave hit with an ESPN.com report Wednesday. "It's like if the Patriots lose three straight games, and people start talking about trading Tom Brady." Ainge was quick to insist Rondo's most likely team following the March 15 trade deadline is the one that pays him now. He added that he is not currently trying to trade the point guard."
Deal or no deal?
"The trade rumors continue to swirl around Rajon Rondo, but there's one problem: There doesn't seem to be a suitable deal for the mercurial point guard. Here's a look at some of the most persistent names to arise in Rondo trade talks, and why most are unlikely to happen: Potential trade: Lakers PF Pau Gasol for Rondo (and Jermaine O'Neal to make the contracts match) Why it works: The Celtics would acquire Gasol, one of the league's most skilled and consistent big men. The 31-year-old, averaging 16.9 points and 10.5 rebounds this season, would team with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to form arguably the NBA's best frontline. The Lakers have holes throughout their roster, but the lack of a"
Report: Celtics shopping Rajon Rondo
"Rajon Rondo's future in Boston continues to be a story line as a report last night indicated the team is shopping its point guard and an NBA source said the Celtics are "listening'' to offers. An ESPN.com report said the Celtics have decided to trade Rondo after his attitude and personality have become too burdensome for the organization. An NBA source told the Globe the Celtics aren't trying to dump Rondo but his name is being mentioned in deals, similar to the way it was when the team made a play for Chris Paul in December. Rondo collected his 16th career triple-double and third this season in last night's 102-96 victory over the Bucks. He has endured a difficult season with the trade"
Rajon Rondo play points way
"Rajon Rondo was credited officially with 11 rebounds last night, but it was one that didn't appear on the stat sheet that made his evening. Twenty-four hours after going scoreless in Cleveland in a win against the Cavaliers, the Celtics point guard rebounded with 15 points and 10 assists to go with the aforementioned boards. It was his third triple-double of the season, 10th in the regular season for his career and 16th overall including playoff games. But the key to his brilliant night, and the resultant 102-96 victory against the Milwaukee Bucks, was that Rondo arrived at the Garden focused on the end of the floor furthest from the C's hoop."
Man on a mission
"Inasmuch as he attempted to avoid the media and scoffed when he saw the oncoming group approach his table yesterday during the Eastern Conference All-Star availability at the Hilton Hotel, Rajon Rondo was gleeful in discussing his appearance, missing the daily scrum as he served his two-game suspension. Behind his "here we go again'' expression was a smile. Rondo doesn't necessarily embrace the attention, but he does crave it occasionally, even if it means explaining the nature of his anger toward official Sean Wright, who unexpectedly received a fast-pitch softball pass from Rondo after a non-call during the Celtics' 96-81 loss in Detroit last Sunday. The furious toss cost Rondo two games"
Celtics stars point fingers
"An interesting word came up in separate discussions with Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo on the problems that have the Celtics at 15-17 and clinging to the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference. A rather scary word, really — discipline. It may be something you took for granted in that the Celtics have a team loaded with veterans who should know better. But the lack of consistent willingness to perform certain aspects of the game led to some unseemly defeats. "There's not a lot of consistency," said Rondo during yesterday's All-Star media session. "That's why our record is what it is. We may play well for two or three quarters and then go in a lull where we don't score the ball, not"
Rajon Rondo: 'I've got to do better'
"It can be hard to tell at times whether Rajon Rondo is being serious or simply taking his dry wit out for a walk. But his first public comment in regard to throwing a ball at an official last Sunday and the two-game suspension from the NBA that followed wasn't the wisest. Here as a late replacement in the All-Star Game for injured Hawks guard Joe Johnson, Rondo was asked how much he regretted his actions and what he was thinking during his two-game hiatus. "Just got some rest," he said, flipping the question back to the television reporter as he did the ball to referee Sean Wright. Pressed on how difficult it had to be watching the Celtics get waxed in Dallas and Oklahoma City, he"
Johnson out of All-Star Game with knee injury, replaced by Rondo
"Joe Johnson will not participate in the All-Star Game due to the tendinitis in his left knee. An MRI exam performed Tuesday in Atlanta showed no structural damage. The condition will cause Johnson to miss tonight's game against the Knicks and Thursday's home game against the Magic. According to the team, the six-time All-Star will be evaluated prior to the Hawks' first game back from the five-day break, Feb. 29th vs. the Warriors. The NBA announced that Celtics guard Rajon Rondo will replace Johnson."
Rajon Rondo's gift: All-Star appearance
"Never mind that rumor about Kendrick Perkins throwing his friend Rajon Rondo a birthday party. "Yeah, I heard that I threw him a party, but I wouldn't do that," said the Oklahoma City center, who nonetheless has enjoyed a nice reunion with his former teammate during the past two days. Rondo, after getting suspended by the league for two games, joined the Celtics in the team hotel and yesterday celebrated his 26th birthday. Some of Rondo's frustration, probably most of it, was lifted with the news that he was being named as an alternate to the Eastern Conference All-Star team in place of injured Hawks guard Joe Johnson. Perkins doesn't understand why it took an injury to another player for"
Here's an idea: Rajon for Deron
"The Celtics lost out in their push for Chris Paul. Is it time to re-cast the net down to New Jersey for Deron Williams? The clock is ticking for the Nets' estimable point guard, who dropped 38 on the Knicks on Monday night. He has a chance to opt out of his contract at the end of the season, which everyone expects him to do. The conventional wisdom has him ticketed for Dallas. Most of the talk about the Nets' future has centered on their desire to get Dwight Howard, who would team with Williams as a formidable 1-2 punch as the franchise moves to Brooklyn. There has been less said about the future of the player the Nets already have. One person in the Nets organization who is not directly"
Time to trade Rajon Rondo may be now
"They are old, slow, hurting, hobbling and heading to Oklahoma City tomorrow night without their best player. On this day one year ago, the Celtics [team stats] were 40-14, best record in the East, second-best in the NBA. Hell, on this day one week ago, the Celtics were No. 10 in the ESPN Power Rankings, a viable contender for a top-four seed. Now they are 18th and falling apart faster than Lindsay Lohan. Now we are left to wonder how far Danny Ainge will go to reshape this team and how different it will look March 15, the NBA trade deadline. We don't know just how medieval he will get, but we know Danny will do something, probably something drastic, maybe something wildly unpopular."
