Percy Harvin News

Severity of Harvin's migraine problem caught Vikings by surprise
"Vikings coach Brad Childress said Percy Harvin's migraine headaches didn't raise red flags leading up to the draft last year. There wasn't any reason to believe something was seriously amiss. But looking back on it, the migraines were more of an issue than they knew at the time. "It's kind of a lesson learned thing," Childress said. Childress gave more insight into the extent of the problem Friday at the NFL's annual scouting combine. He acknowledged that, a year later, migraine headaches on the Harvin scouting report indicate something much more significant. "I just think after the spent time at the Mayo Clinic (in December) that they gave him a pretty good protocol to try to follow," ..."
Harvin wins Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award
"Vikings rookie Percy Harvin won another award Thursday when it was announced that he was the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. "Oh, man, it's a tremendous honor," Harvin said by phone as he drove down here from Jacksonville. "Just to be mentioned along with all the past winners like AP [Adrian Peterson] and Randy Moss and a lot of those guys in the past. It makes my season all the better knowing that all the hard work and effort I put in helped me win this award." Harvin was supposed to accept the award during a press conference at the Super Bowl media center today, but couldn't make it. He said there was a problem with his flight from Jacksonville, so he decided to drive. He's due to arrive ..."
Harvin is latest Viking to drop out of Pro Bowl
"Vikings rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin sounded as if he was very close to declining his invitation to the Pro Bowl when asked about playing in the game on Monday morning. By the end of the day, Harvin had made it official, joining Brett Favre and Antoine Winfield as Vikings who declined spots on the NFC roster for the game that will be played on Sunday in South Florida."
Despite battling migraines, the offensive rookie of the year is expected to see action.
"If the Vikings want to get out of New Orleans with a win today, they'll need to be firing on all cylinders against the league's No. 1 offense. Having dynamic wideout Percy Harvin in the lineup is a good start. Barring a late setback, Harvin is expected to play in tonight's NFC Championship game in the Big Easy, according to ESPN.com. The rookie out of Florida has been suffering from migraines that held him out of practice for two days this past week."
Bryant McKinnie video shows Percy Harvin packing for New Orleans
"Vikings receiver Percy Harvin arrived in New Orleans today with the team in advance of Sunday's NFC championship game. Earlier, Harvin was at Winter Park, apparently packing in front of his locker getting ready for the trip to New Orleans, according to video shot by teammate Bryant McKinnie. McKinnie posted the video on his Twitter account. Harvin had missed practice Thursday and Friday because of migraine headaches. He was listed as questionable on the injury report. But Harvin's presence at Winter Park is an encouraging sign that the NFL offensive rookie of the year might be able to play."
Harvin with Vikings for trip
"Rookie wide receiver and kick returner Percy Harvin was with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday and in apparent good health, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported, after another bout with migraine headaches this week. Harvin was at the team's training facility Saturday morning and was expected to travel with the Vikings to New Orleans for Sunday's NFC championship game against the Saints, according to the report. He missed practices Thursday and Friday because of migraines and was listed as questionable on the official injury report."
Harvin joins team on flight after migraines
"After a recurrence of migraines that kept him out of two practices last week, Percy Harvin was back at Winter Park on Saturday and flew with the team to New Orleans for Sunday's NFC title game. The Vikings arrived in New Orleans on Saturday evening. The rookie wide receiver was not at practice on Thursday or Friday after he began to suffer from the headaches that have bothered him since he was 10 years old. Coach Brad Childress said Friday that Harvin had stayed home and admitted that having Harvin travel with the team might be an issue if the migraines did not subside. Harvin, however, was able to make it to the team's facility on Saturday, and Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie even put ..."
Headaches strike Harvin again: Misses practice, playing status in doubt
"The Vikings injury situation suddenly looks serious. Percy Harvin, the NFL's offensive rookie of the year, missed a second consecutive day of practice Friday because of migraines and is one of five Vikings listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC Championship Game. The others with that designation are All-Pro defensive tackle Kevin Williams (knee), defensive end Ray Edwards (knee), nose tackle Pat Williams (elbow/foot) and cornerback Benny Sapp (ankle/back). Harvin's situation seems to be the most tenuous because he remained at home on Friday after suffering a recurrence of migraines this week. "It's less than ideal, but he's played under the same circumstances this year," coach Brad ..."
Harvin's latest migraine could be a real headache for Vikings
"After his trip to the Mayo Clinic last month, Percy Harvin was optimistic that he had a good treatment plan for his migraine headaches. But the Vikings' wide receiver/kick returner missed practice Thursday while dealing with migraines again, three days shy of the NFC championship game at New Orleans. Coach Brad Childress said he didn't think it was realistic to have expected an end to the migraines, which Harvin reportedly has endured since he was a child. "I think it's just a matter of trying to slow the onset," Childress said. "For a while, he had them pretty often. This is the first time (since the Mayo Clinic visit) one's raised up. (I) expect him to be OK." If Harvin can't play ..."
New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings have something special in Reggie Bush, Percy Harvin
"One of the buzzwords employed by players and coaches in the NFL playoffs is "fundamentals, " and that means special teams receive increased scrutiny. And when teams have return men as explosive as Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints and Percy Harvin of the Minnesota Vikings that means the coverage teams had better stress the fundamentals, according to Saints special teams coordinator Greg McMahon. When asked Thursday about Harvin, the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year and a player who accounted for 1,156 yards and a league-high two touchdowns on kickoff returns, McMahon used words such as, "leverage, " "pursuit, " and "swarm." "I don't know if he can change the game plan but against him ..."
Headache for Harvin keeps him on sideline
"Vikings rookie Percy Harvin missed practice Thursday because of what the team described as a "headache," but that raises concerns, given his history with migraines. Harvin was added to the injury report, and his status for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints is unknown. Harvin has suffered from migraines since he was 10. He experienced a debilitating bout that forced him to miss one game and nearly two weeks of practice earlier this season. Harvin visited the Mayo Clinic in late December and said he left with a "great plan" for dealing with his migraines after meeting with the specialists. Harvin said recently that he hadn't experienced any problems since ..."
Mano a mano: Percy Harvin vs. Orlando Scandrick
"Harvin, the NFL's offensive rookie of the year, can line up at various spots but a primary spot is in the slot in multiple-receiver sets. This should be to the Vikings' advantage because it will put Harvin against second-year cornerback Orlando Scandrick, the Cowboys' nickel back. Scandrick, a fifth-round pick in 2008 out of Boise State, played in the nickel for the Cowboys as a rookie and battled with Mike Jenkins early this season for the job at right corner. A subpar performance by Scandrick in a 33-31 loss in Week 2 to the Giants landed him back in the nickel."
Kick returns come naturally to Harvin
"It's kind of ironic that one reason Percy Harvin was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was because of the great job he did returning kicks, including two for touchdowns, because the truth of the matter is that he was a not a returner in college at all. Harvin, the Vikings' first-round draft choice, returned 42 kicks for 1,156 yards, an average of 27.5 yards per game. "Just look at the hole and hit it as fast as I can," Harvin said of what he does on returns. He had a 101-yard return against San Francisco and an 88-yard return at Pittsburgh for the two touchdowns and this week was named as the NFC's kick returner for the Pro Bowl. This came in his first full season of returning kicks ..."
Vikings' Percy Harvin credits Pro Bowl teammates for his being chosen NFL offensive rookie of the year
"For Percy Harvin, landing with the Vikings turned out to be the perfect situation. Surrounded by Pro Bowl players such as Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and Antoine Winfield, Harvin asked questions and learned as much as he could about becoming a better player. A fast learner, Harvin had an immediate impact for the Vikings, and he was named the Associated Press NFL offensive rookie of the year Wednesday. Reflecting on his season, Harvin said he took advantage of competing against Winfield in training camp. "A lot of times when he guarded me, I'd just ask him what things he looked at and what tendencies he saw in my routes that helped him out," Harvin said during a conference call with Twin ..."
Kick returns come naturally to Harvin
"The Pro Bowl pick and Offensive Rookie of the Year has taken to the role after not having to do it in college. It's kind of ironic that one reason Percy Harvin was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was because of the great job he did returning kicks, including two for touchdowns, because the truth of the matter is that he was a not a returner in college at all. Harvin honored as NFL Offensive Rookie of Year
"Percy Harvin said the fact 21 teams passed on him in the NFL draft last April never served as a motivating factor. "I didn't go into the season trying to prove anybody wrong," he said. "I just wanted to get in, learn as fast as I could and try to contribute to my team." The wide receiver accomplished that and more as he helped the Vikings to the NFC North title. On Wednesday, he was rewarded by being named the Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Harvin received 41 votes in balloting that included a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the league. Baltimore tackle Michael Oher was second with six votes. "I'm excited for Percy," Vikings coach Brad ..."
Harvin wins rookie of the year honor
"As Percy Harvin tumbled in the first round of the NFL draft last April because of character and injury concerns, many wondered which team would be willing to take a chance on the talented wide receiver from Florida. The Vikings turned out to be that team, grabbing Harvin with the 22nd pick. So far, it looks to be a wise move. That was made clear again on Wednesday morning when Harvin was named the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the league. Harvin received 41 votes to easily win the award. Baltimore Ravens tackle Michael Oher was second with six votes. Harvin becomes the sixth Vikings player to ..."
Giving more headaches than he gets
"Percy Harvin already has secured a spot in the Pro Bowl, set a couple of team records and very likely could add the NFL offensive rookie of the year award Wednesday. The thing that gives him the most satisfaction, he said, is how quickly he was able to learn the Vikings' offensive system and adapt to the NFL. His adjustment to the Minnesota winters, well, that's another story. "It's cold," he said Monday before traveling to his home in Florida for a few days. "I don't sit there and stand out there in the weather. I think the weirdest thing is I tried to roll my window down and it was stuck with ice. I was going through the drive-through at McDonald's and I couldn't get my window down. I ..."
Harvin optimistic after traveling to Mayo Clinic
"Vikings rookie Percy Harvin said he had a successful visit to the Mayo Clinic on Tuesday and that he has a "great plan" for dealing with his migraines after meeting with specialists. "Yeah, it's a relief," he said. "Without going into [specifics], we had a great visit and came up with a great plan. I saw great doctors and it should be good from now on. I'm all good." Harvin has suffered from migraines since he was 10 and experienced a severe bout that forced him to miss one game and nearly two weeks of practice. Harvin also told NBC that he has two bulging disks in his neck. However, coach Brad Childress downplayed that, saying they are not herniated disks. Harvin practiced Wednesday and ..."
Harvin headed to Mayo Clinic
"Percy Harvin returned to action on Sunday night, but the Vikings rookie receiver apparently is dealing with more than severe migraines. Harvin played against the Carolina Panthers despite missing most of the past two weeks because of debilitating migraines. Harvin also told NBC's Andrea Kremer that he has two bulging disks in his neck and is scheduled to visit the Mayo Clinic with a team doctor Tuesday. Harvin said the injury was diagnosed during an MRI last week. Harvin practiced for the first time in two weeks Friday, and was listed as questionable for Sunday. Harvin declined to talk about his neck after the game and would not even confirm that the report was accurate. "I'm not allowed ..."
Besides migraines, an MRI revealed that Harvin has disk problems in his neck.

Harvin suffering from bulging discs in neck
"Upon meeting Minnesota Vikings wide receiver/kick returner Percy Harvin for the first time, one can't help but be drawn to his charisma, manners ("yes ma'am, no ma'am") and big smile. Hard to believe that only days before he was literally crying himself to sleep. So says Harvin, whose debilitating migraine kept him out of practice for nearly two weeks and forced him to miss last week's game against Cincinnati. The 21-year-old, who has suffered from migraines since he was 10 years old, said this was the worst one he'd ever had. "It was scary," said Harvin, who leads the NFC with 1,780 combined yards heading into Week 15. "You want to do anything to stop it." Harvin told me he arrived in ..."
Percy Harvin returns to Minnesota Vikings practice
"Vikings receiver Percy Harvin returned to practice Friday after missing five practices and a game with migraine headaches. Harvin expressed optimism that he would be able to play Sunday at Carolina. He was listed as questionable on the injury report and was limited in practice. "I had a good practice, so I should be on the field Sunday," Harvin said. "We'll see." He expressed relief at returning to the team, saying he's "doing fine." "It's tremendously hard," Harvin said of what he's been through. "Just getting back out here and being able to run around and get a lot of sweat going and get back out here with my teammates is the most important part." Harvin said the migraines he suffers ..."
Harvin relieved, and back at work
"Vikings rookie receiver Percy Harvin was back at Winter Park on Friday after missing one game and nearly two weeks of practice because of severe migraines. Harvin was able to practice on a limited basis and was in good spirits, according to coach Brad Childress. Harvin said he is hopeful that he can play Sunday night against the Carolina Panthers, although he is listed as questionable on the injury report. The Vikings' top two wide receivers are questionable after Sidney Rice missed a second consecutive day of practice because of an illness. Rice was at the facility and watched practice Friday. Harvin said the past two weeks have been "tremendously hard." "Just getting back out here and ..."
Harvin continues to rest; Rice is sick
"Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin remained at home Thursday as he continues to deal with migraine headaches that could keep him out of Sunday's game at Carolina. Harvin has not been able to practice since Dec. 4, two days before the Vikings lost at Arizona. Harvin missed last Sunday's game against Cincinnati and all of last week's practice because of the headaches. Harvin was at Winter Park on Wednesday morning but went home after becoming ill. Harvin visited doctors on Monday. Asked if Harvin will continue to see doctors this week or if there is only so much they can do, Childress said: "Only so much right now. We feel like we've got a decent plan in place." The truth of the matter ..."
Concern grows over Harvin's migraines
"The Vikings have no idea if Percy Harvin will be able to play Sunday at Carolina, but at this point that might be the least of their worries. The standout rookie receiver continued to battle migraine headaches Wednesday and spent only a brief portion of the day at Winter Park before heading home. He was not at practice. Harvin missed all three days of practice last week and his first game of the season Sunday against Cincinnati because of the debilitating headaches. Coach Brad Childress is usually loath to discuss his team's health issues, but judging from his comments Wednesday there is genuine concern among many in the Vikings organization."
Percy Harvin on verge of returning to Minnesota Vikings' practices
"Vikings receiver Percy Harvin showed improvement after missing Sunday's game because of migraines, and he should be able to practice today, coach Brad Childress said. Childress told SIRIUS NFL Radio on Tuesday that the Vikings are working to address Harvin's migraines. Harvin, a strong contender for NFL offensive rookie of the year, missed three practices last week and did not play against Cincinnati. "He seems to be better this week," Childress said during the radio interview. "We're working vigorously to try to address that and take some testing, and that type of thing, which I'm sure he's gone through before. But he kind of spent a bunch of the day (Monday) doing that. He should be back ..."
Out with migraine, Percy Harvin not even on Minnesota Vikings sideline Sunday
"Vikings rookie receiver Percy Harvin missed his first NFL game, and he wasn't even on the sideline with the team's other inactive players Sunday. Harvin has a history of migraines, chronic headaches that can cause pain for hours or days. According to the Web site WebMD, migraines affect 28 million Americans. Vikings coach Brad Childress said he doesn't have a "great feel for" migraines yet. "They are so wide ranging, and people report different things. As coaches you want to put it in a box. 'What is it? It's a fractured femur. Well how long is that?' "We will get up to speed as we go through next week, and he will work as hard as anything." Childress said it "kills" Harvin not to be on ..."
Migraines keep Harvin questionable vs. Bengals
"Rookie Percy Harvin missed practice for a third consecutive day Friday because of migraines and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Harvin has a history of migraines and has dealt with them at different times this season, but this is the first time he has missed an entire week of practice because of them. "It's tough," coach Brad Childress said. "He's certainly behind the 8-ball." A questionable listing means there is a 50 percent chance that Harvin will play against the Bengals. Safety Tyrell Johnson was listed as doubtful after missing all week of practice because of a concussion and likely will be replaced by rookie Jamarca Sanford. That means the ..."
Migraines again force Harvin from drills
"Rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin missed a second consecutive day of practice Thursday because of a recurrence of migraine headaches, according to coach Brad Childress. Harvin, 21, who saw a doctor Thursday and then went home to rest, has dealt with migraines since he was 10 years old and has missed a few practices this season because of the issue. He often has been able to control his migraines with medication when they begin, but there has been no common denominator in what triggers his episodes. The Vikings have been proactive in attempting to help him with the issue, meeting with specialists and coming up with treatment plans. Most recently, Harvin was added to the injury report the ..."
Vikings rookie receiver Percy Harvin's star is rising after first 100-yard receiving game
"Percy Harvin has done plenty to get noticed in his rookie season, including topping 100 receiving yards in a game for the first time Sunday. So what did he think of his six-catch, 101-yard game? "I don't worry about yards," said Harvin, who scored his seventh touchdown of the season on a 15-yard pass in the second quarter. "All I worry about is as long as we get the victory we're making another step towards our team goal." Harvin also ran the ball twice for 45 yards, showcasing his versatility. He entered the game second in the NFL in kickoff returns with an average of 29.8 yards. Coaches and players had plenty of compliments for Harvin after Sunday's 36-10 win over the Chicago Bears. ..."
Bears fall 36-10 to Minnesota Vikings
"The Bears solved a few problems Sunday in their 36-10 loss to the Vikings. Instead of playing poorly in the first quarter, they played poorly in the second quarter -- giving up 24 points. Instead of overthrowing receivers on sure touchdown passes, Jay Cutler underthrew one. Instead of being done in by Adrian Peterson, they were done in by Percy Harvin. There are some who would call this progress. The rest of us would call it another smackdown, and proof positive the Bears cannot compete with the elite of the NFL. The Bears were badly outplayed in just about every way imaginable in a loss that ended their hopes of winning the NFC North -- if they still had such hopes. They still have a ..."
Vikings' Harvin listed as probable for Sunday
"The Vikings made a late addition to their injury report on Saturday, placing rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin on the list because of an illness. Harvin is listed as probable for Sunday's game against Chicago, meaning it's a "virtual certainty" he will play. Running back Adrian Peterson missed Friday's practice because of an illness so it's possible there is a bug going through the locker room. Defensive linemen Fred Evans and Jayme Mitchell dealt with illnesses before the Vikings played Seattle last Sunday. But this is not the first time Harvin has turned up on the injury report because of an illness this season and at times that has been because he is dealing with migraine headaches that ..."
Harvin parlays 'A' instincts into rookie of the year candidacy
"Percy Harvin is neither pleased nor disappointed midway through his rookie season with the Vikings. "I came into this with no expectations," Harvin said Monday, "other than I wanted to help this team win." The Vikings' 7-1 record is impressive, and so is Harvin's production and contribution. Harvin is the early favorite for NFL offensive rookie of the year, distinguishing himself as a kickoff returner, receiver and running back. He ranks second in the NFL with an average of 30.7 yards per kickoff return, and he is No. 1 among rookies in touchdowns (five) and receiving yards (369) and No. 2 in first downs (24). "He's got 'A' instincts," Vikings coach Brad Childress said of Harvin. "He's ..."
Minnesota Vikings' Brad Childress says Percy Harvin could return punts at some point
"Minnesota Vikings rookie Percy Harvin has shown his toughness, playing through a nagging shoulder injury over the past three weeks. "I'm feeling great right now," Harvin said. "This couldn't have came at a better point. I got nicks and knacks, but I figure everybody (does)." This couldn't be a better start for Harvin, who dropped to the Vikings with the 22nd overall pick in the NFL Draft. Harvin leads all rookies with 369 receiving yards and is second in the NFL in kickoff average. He also has scored five touchdowns. "I don't think about it," Harvin said of all the teams that passed him over. "But a lot of times my family and other friends will text me stuff like that. "I keep those out of ..."
Happier returns this season
"The Vikings won the NFC North last season almost in spite of their special teams play. They are well on their way to repeating as division champions this season in part because of a significant turnaround in their special teams. The combination of Percy Harvin's dynamic return skills and major improvement from the coverage units led coach Brad Childress to call his special teams play a "thing of beauty" Monday. That's a far cry from last season, when the Vikings gave up an NFL-record seven special teams touchdowns and had no real juice in the return game. "I think the mindset when we started the season was that we're going to forget about last year," said safety Eric Frampton, one of the ..."
Vikings' Percy Harvin burns Green Bay Packers on returns
"The Packers didn't have an answer for the dynamic Percy Harvin on Sunday. The Minnesota Vikings' outstanding rookie playmaker is a leading candidate for rookie of the year at the halfway point of the season and was a major factor in this game as kickoff returner alone in the Vikings' 38-26 win over the Packers at Lambeau Field. Harvin had two long returns that set up the Vikings for short touchdown drives – a 77-yard return in the first quarter that set up their first score, and a 48-yarder in the third quarter that answered a Packers touchdown and put the Vikings in position to increase their lead to 31-20 after the Packers had pulled to within four points. The Packers tried a couple of ..."
Word of the day describes Vikings speedster Percy Harvin: He's electrifying
"One word. That's all I was looking for from Percy Harvin. Just one word to describe the way he plays the game. No answer came right away. So I tossed out a word for his consideration. Harvin smiled. Apparently, he liked the word. "Electrifying," the Vikings rookie said, nodding. "You can stick with that one." If he keeps playing as he did Sunday, that description will stick. In a game that included four touchdown passes by Brett Favre and a 97-yard rushing performance by Adrian Peterson, Harvin was the most electrifying player in the Vikings' 38-26 victory over the Green Bay Packers. He accounted for 261 yards — 175 on five kickoff returns, 84 on five receptions and a couple of yards on a ..."
Harvin unleashes more lightning bolts
"Percy Harvin has heard a lot of different adjectives and superlatives used to describe his talent, but he thinks "electrifying" might be the most appropriate. "Just stick with that one," he said, laughing. The Green Bay Packers won't argue. While the spotlight shined brightest on Brett Favre in his return to Lambeau Field on Sunday, Harvin's performance in a 38-26 victory also deserved top billing. The rookie finished with 261 total yards, on the strength of a long touchdown catch and two momentum-changing kickoff returns. Not bad for a guy who was listed as questionable on the injury report after missing one day of practice because of an undisclosed illness. Harvin declined to give ..."
WR Harvin will start for Vikings
"Vikings rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin is expected to start today's game against the Packers, despite missing two practices this week with an "illness." That illness was a recurrence of the migraine headaches that caused Harvin to miss practice time earlier this season, according to a source with knowledge of the situation."
Reports: Harvin will play today
"For the second time this season, there was doubt about whether Percy Harvin would play in a game. And for the second time Harvin is going to give it a go. Harvin, who suffered a shoulder injury last week at St. Louis and was listed as questionable on the injury report, will be active for today's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Harvin did not practice on Wednesday but was able to do limited work on Thursday and Friday. Harvin battled migraine headaches in the days leading up to the Vikings' victory over San Francisco in Week 3 but was able to play and returned a kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown. Harvin is third on the Vikings with 18 receptions for 233 yards with two touchdowns. Rookie ..."
Harvin's injury status a game-time decision for Vikings
"Vikings rookie receiver Percy Harvin said it would be a game-time decision whether he plays Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens because of a shoulder injury. Harvin, who suffered the injury after a second-quarter catch in last Sunday's victory over the St. Louis Rams, will warm up before this Sunday's game and "see how it feels." He is officially listed as questionable, which means a 50-50 chance he would play. "They want to make sure I can protect myself and able to take contact," he said. Harvin wouldn't go into details of the injury. He completed the game, finishing with four catches for 66 yards, then felt sore the next two days. Harvin has 18 catches for 233 yards with two touchdowns ..."
Harvin questionable for Sunday
"Vikings rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Baltimore because of a left shoulder injury. Harvin said a decision on whether he plays will be made on game day. "I'm feeling all right," Harvin said following Friday's practice. "It will be a game-time decision. We'll warm up and see how it feels." Harvin said the shoulder feels "OK" but that doctors want to make sure he can protect himself. Harvin, who is third on the Vikings with 18 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns, was injured in the second quarter of the Vikings' victory last Sunday at St. Louis. "It was hurting but I was able to make it through the game," he said. "But it kind ..."
Team drops Booty; Harvin is held out of practice
"The Vikings parted ways with John David Booty on Wednesday, releasing the second-year quarterback from their practice squad. The move was somewhat surprising, considering the Vikings had signed Booty to their practice squad after waiving him during their final roster cuts before the season. A fifth-round pick out of Southern California last season, Booty spent his rookie season as the team's No. 3 quarterback. Booty became the fourth quarterback with Brett Favre's arrival, meaning he took hardly any reps in practice. The Vikings signed offensive tackle Clint Oldenburg to fill his spot on the practice squad. "We typically roll guys through the practice squad," coach Brad Childress said. ..."
Good friends Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice have emerged, under different circumstances, to boost the Vikings' passing game. Rising together
"After a solid rookie season, Vikings receiver Sidney Rice expected to take his game to another level in 2008. He did — only in the wrong direction. Rice suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Week 2, and although he played 11 more games, he hobbled through the season and finished with just 141 receiving yards. "Everybody was talking bad about me, but they don't know better, because they didn't know I was hurt throughout the season," Rice said. "I just kept fighting." Then during free agency, the Vikings aggressively pursued veteran receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, but the one-time Pro Bowl receiver spurned the club because the Seattle Seahawks had a more proven ..."
