Maurice Jones-Drew News & Rumors

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey says Maurice Jones-Drew wants extension
"Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey said Tuesday that running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who is skipping the team's voluntary offseason workout program, wants a contract extension. "I'm in the coaching end of these matters, and I've talked to him about football and what I can do on the field and in the locker room," Mularkey said. Jones-Drew has two years left on the five-year, $31 million deal that he signed in 2009 that will pay him $9.4 million the next two seasons. Neither Jones-Drew nor his agent, Adisa Bakari, have said publicly that he wants an extension, but there's been much speculation because his contract has been surpassed by several running backs."
Maurice Jones-Drew, Josh Scobee not expected at workouts
"With organized team activities starting tomorrow, the Jaguars will be without two key players. Maurice Jones-Drew and Josh Scobee won't be there for Jacksonville's voluntary workouts. This shouldn't be a surprise since neither player has participated in the Jaguars voluntary offseason workouts yet. The Jaguars don't have mandatory minicamp until June. Scobee's absence is a clear contract issue. The Jaguars placed the franchise tag on him for a one-year deal worth $2.88 million and Scobee has not signed it, which means he is not under contract. He wants a long-term deal and the Jaguars are hoping to sign him to one, although little progress has been made on that front so far."
Maurice Jones-Drew not expected at Jaguars OTAs
"When the Jaguars kicked off their offseason workouts last month, they did it without running back Maurice Jones-Drew. His absence came as a surprise to coach Mike Mularkey and was reportedly due to dissatisfaction with a contract that is set to pay him $4.45 million this season. He's got another year on the deal as well with the problem stemming from the fact that Jones-Drew is paid less than other, less prouductive running backs. Jones-Drew is a vital part of the Jaguars offense, but there doesn't seem to be any movement toward a resolution that will bring Jones-Drew back into the fold."
Maurice Jones-Drew skipping mincamp is no big deal
"To invoke the most memorable Allen Iverson rant of all time, "We're talking about practice, man." And not even real practice, rather the Jaguars' minicamp. We're talking film studies and walkthroughs. Sure, they're all things that could send Aaron Kampman to IR, but no reason for the masses to get too worked up. That's why running back Maurice Jones-Drew skipping the team's voluntary minicamp is something that must be put into the proper perspective. I don't think it's nearly as big as some claim it to be, even with a new coaching staff. I'm convinced that Jones-Drew, like most NFL veterans, could follow the workout and diet regimen of a sports writer all summer and still be ready to play"
Jones-Drew's absence from camp could be about money
"Maurice Jones-Drew has reportedly made the decision not to attend the Jacksonville Jaguars voluntary minicamp. It has something to do with a new contract. For the past couple of months, I've been hearing from team sources that Jones-Drew has been talking about a new deal. He has two years left on a contract he signed in 2009, but that deal makes him the eighth-highest paid running back in the league and he was the NFL's top rusher last season. So you can see his point. But you can also understand why the team would balk. Jones-Drew is entering his seventh season, but he's only been the primary rusher the past three. He isn't a big guy, and while he takes great care of his body, the"
Maurice Jones-Drew won't attend Jaguars' voluntary minicamp
"Mike Mularkey's first voluntary minicamp will begin without the Jaguars' star player. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew will not report for the veteran orientation camp, which begins on Tuesday, instead working out in California, where he lives in the offseason. Jones-Drew, who was the NFL's leading rusher last season, has skipped voluntary parts of offseason programs in the past. He got married the day before the Jaguars began their strength and conditioning program on April 2 and thus didn't report for it. A few teammates also missed the first day of the voluntary program so they could attend his wedding. Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey was asked Monday if he expected that any players other"
Maurice Jones-Drew loses out on league rushing award
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew won the league's rushing title, but he lost the FedEx Ground Player of the Year to LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday. Since it was a fan vote, Jones-Drew might have been at a disadvantage playing for a small market team, but said he wasn't disappointed and McCoy deserved it for his 17-touchdown season. Ray Rice of the Ravens was the other player on the ballot. "Seventeen touchdowns is amazing,'' Jones-Drew said. "He did a great job.''"
Jones-Drew has Taylor's blessing to break Jaguars rushing mark
"If he were anyone else, it might be surprising that a player wants to see his record broken. If Fred Taylor wasn't the kind of guy who rooted for Maurice Jones-Drew throughout his career – even when the Jaguars drafted Jones-Drew as his successor – his mentality heading into this weekend would be odd. But he is and it's not. Taylor wants Jones-Drew to break his single-season rushing record. "This is big. It's a really good moment for him," Taylor said. "I'm going to give him a ring and tell him to get some pretty good cleats out there so he can get ready to autograph them after the game.""
Maurice Jones-Drew sees hype in concussions
"To Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, the risk he puts his body and brain through by playing football is worth it. Last week, Jones-Drew told The Associated Press he would hide concussion symptoms in order to not be seen as a concussion-prone player. This week he stood by those comments and added that he thinks the NFL's concern stems from lawsuits. "The only reason they're making a big deal about concussions right now is because the league is getting sued over it," Jones-Drew said. "Before this, you never heard about it. A couple of years ago, you didn't hear anything about it. Let's not make something out of nothing. Yeah, people are getting messed up. That happens. Most of the"
Maurice Jones-Drew selected for third consecutive Pro Bowl
"Maurice Jones-Drew constantly says individual accolades don't mean much to him and he continued the theme Tuesday after the NFL announced he was selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl. As for not being named the AFC's starter despite leading the NFL in rushing, he let that roll off him as well. "I was a starter last year, I think Arian Foster obviously deserved it," Jones-Drew said of the Texans running back who was the league's leading rusher last season. "Ray Rice is a very good running back … we see his team lose when he doesn't touch the ball. I'm just happy to be part of the roster again." Jones-Drew is the fourth player in Jaguars history to make three consecutive Pro Bowls."
Maurice Jones-Drew set to earn Pro Bowl distinction
"Running back Maurice Jones-Drew is on the threshold of becoming only the fourth Jaguars player to make the Pro Bowl three or more years in a row. Jones-Drew, who is leading the league in rushing with 1,334 yards, finished second in the fan voting to Houston's Arian Foster, who won the rushing title last season. Foster is fifth this season. While the fan vote counts for one-third of the vote, the vote of the coaches and players, which took place Tuesday, counts for a third each."
MJD finishes second among AFC running backs in fan Pro Bowl voting
"Although Maurice Jones-Drew leads the NFL in rushing yards, fans voters for the Pro Bowl don't agree with the stats, apparently. In the final tally from fan votes, Jones-Drew has the second most votes in the AFC after Texans running back Arian Foster. He also trails NFC running backs LeSean McCoy, the Eagles running back who is Jones-Drew's only competition for the rushing title, and Minnesota's Adrian Peterson. He is the only Jaguars player in the top five in fan voting at any position."
Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew plans to get back up to speed
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew goes into the final two weeks of the season leading the NFL in rushing with 1,334 yards. Jones-Drew, though, thinks he should have 37 more. He's annoyed that he was caught from behind by Atlanta safety William Moore on the Falcons' 37 after going for 43 yards, Jones-Drew's longest run of the year, in the second quarter Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons. "I've never been caught from behind before. Never. Not once," he said. Jones-Drew said the problem is that he couldn't work out in the offseason this year because he was recovering from knee surgery."
Injuries force Jones-Drew to be focus of offense
"With injuries to receivers Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Mike Thomas (concussion), there was little question the Jaguars offense would turn to Maurice Jones-Drew frequently. The Falcons knew it and prepared for it. Jones-Drew still notched his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season. He had 112 yards on 17 carries. The NFL's leading rusher became the only player in franchise history to rush for more than 1,300 yards in three consecutive seasons. He entered the game with 1,222 yards rushing."
Maurice Jones-Drew breaks his mentor's touchdown record
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew planned to call Fred Taylor on Sunday to share a special moment with him. He had surpassed Taylor's franchise career touchdown record. Jones-Drew's career-high four touchdowns in the Jaguars' 41-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers boosted his career total to 73, eclipsing Taylor's 70. "He mentored me to be the player I am today," Jones-Drew said. "For him to take time out of his career to work with me, it means a lot to me. "Words can't really explain how excited I am to have a guy who taught me how to play this game the right way, how to take care of my body and do those things. I'm proud of the guys around me as well. They've been blocking"
Maurice Jones-Drew makes run at rushing title
"NFL coaches are running out of things to say about Maurice Jones-Drew. When the Jaguars' running back played the Ravens last month, Baltimore defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano said, "You put on the tape and this guy is like a rolling ball of butcher knives. He's scary." The Ravens have the No. 2 run defense in the NFL, yet Jones-Drew ran for 105 yards in a 12-7 Jaguars win. The Jaguars play a Tampa Bay defense Sunday that is 29th against the rush, so it wasn't surprising that Bucs coach Raheem Morris described Jones-Drew the same way Pagano did. "He is hard to tackle. He's hard to bring down. He is a rolling ball of butcher knives. He runs angry. He runs violent," Morris said. Jones-Drew"
Bucs will face running back Maurice Jones-Drew, an all-around threat for Jaguars
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew literally wears a chip on his shoulder every Sunday. It's stitched onto his jersey. Jones-Drew said he picked No. 32 because of the 32 teams that passed on him in the 2006 draft. The undersized former UCLA star went in the second round (60th overall) to Jacksonville. "I was an angry person coming out of the draft," Jones-Drew, 26, said. "It was something that kind of drove me." Bucs coach Raheem Morris can see that fuel in the violent way he runs, a 5-foot-7, 238-pound wrecking ball who leads the league in rushing at 1,137 yards and on Sunday faces a Tampa Bay defense that struggles against the run. "Jones-Drew hasn't seen a fight he doesn't like,""
Maurice Jones-Drew won't say the rushing title means anything
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is the NFL's leading rusher right now with 1,137 yards. He's got three yards over Philadelphia's LeSean McCoy and the rushing title, is well within reach. Jones-Drew was sullen after Monday night's game, in which he rushed for 97 yards and caught six passes for 91 yards. He said with a 3-9 record, it didn't matter what he accomplished or what he could accomplish. "We don't play for individual accolades," Jones-Drew said. "What coach said was right; we didn't play well enough to win.""
Jones-Drew continues to carry load for Jags in loss
"The one number that concerned Maurice Jones-Drew most on Monday night was nine — the number of losses for the Jaguars following San Diego's methodical 38-14 victory at EverBank Field. For all the things that continued to go wrong for the Jags, especially in the secondary, Jones-Drew continued to do his part. His 97 rushing yards gave him the lead in the NFL, and his 91 yards in receptions were a team-best. "It doesn't feel good," Jones-Drew said. "We didn't play well enough to win. You don't play this game for individual stats.""
Any other week, Rivers has MJD's backing
"At least one of the thousands -- millions? -- of fantasy-football players who've drafted Philip Rivers hasn't given up on the Chargers quarterback whose inexplicably high number of numbers are killing them. "Tell Philip this," said Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew. "I got him on my fantasy team. This week I'm gonna have to bench him because he's playing the Jaguars, but tell him that I still believed in him when everybody else didn't, allright?""
Jones-Drew, Posluszny, Scobee stand out to GM Smith
"Jaguars general manager Gene Smith named running back Maurice Jones-Drew, linebacker Paul Posluszny and kicker Josh Scobee as his offensive, defensive and special teams MVPs of the first half of his season during his weekly radio show on Monday. Smith said he might have named several players on defense, including linebacker Daryl Smith. He selected safety Dwight Lowery as his unsung player of the first half of the season."
Jaguars-Texans battle of running back titans
"The next novel Arian Foster plans to read is a story about second chances and making the most out of every moment in life. "Aleph" is the newest work by Paulo Coelho, whose most famous novel is "The Alchemist," and its message is an apt one for the Houston Texans running back. Foster is a man who got an opportunity two years ago with the Texans, when they signed him as an undrafted free agent, and became one of the league's top running backs."
Put heat on players, not coaches, says Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew
"Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and tight end Marcedes Lewis, two of the Jaguars' key offensive performers, said the players, not coach Jack Del Rio, should take responsibility for the team's 1-4 start after the 30-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Even though Del Rio is so under fire that the team has stopped introducing him before the games so the fans don't have an opportunity to boo him, Jones-Drew said, "At the end of the day, Jack's not playing. You can call it whatever you want. We have to execute the plays. It's not on the coach.''"
Maurice Jones-Drew back on a Pro Bowl pace
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is off to the best start of his career. After rushing for 122 yards in 24 carries against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, he has 307 yards in his first three games in 66 carries. It was the 20th time in his career he's rushed for more than 100 yards in a game. He's on pace for a 1,600-yard season, his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and possibly his first rushing title. He's done all this after he played on a sore knee last season, missing the final two games. He's proved he's made a complete recovery from offseason surgery."
Jets vs. Jaguars: Maurice Jones-Drew wants more of the ball
"The Jets host the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 1 p.m. at Metlife Stadium. Both teams won their Week 1 matchups, the Jets over the Cowboys, the Jaguars over the Tennessee Titans. Below is a sampling of stories about the Jaguars heading into Week 2. Vito Stellino, The Florida Times-Union: The Jaguars were panned for letting starting quarterback David Garrard go six days before the first game of the season. Luke McCown, Garrard's replacement, earned praise for his strong game management against the Titans."
Jaguars Notebook: Maurice Jones-Drew wants more carries; coaches don't
"Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has Maurice Jones-Drew on what amounts to football's version of a pitch count. Jones-Drew carried 24 times for 97 yards in the 16-14 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. "He wasn't happy," Del Rio said after the game. "I'm not wild about the prospect of him taking it 35 times in the opener. So that was my call. We had talked about a play count for him. He's so competitive and he's not happy about [a reduced work load]. But that's going to happen as we monitor and try to keep him to a certain number of reps as we go through the season." Jones-Drew confirmed he was unhappy. "I feel like I could have played more. Last year, I played on one leg; now I have two. I feel"
Jaguars Notebook: Players select six team captains
"Jaguars players selected six team captains on Monday, two from each phase of the game. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and tight end Marcedes Lewis are the offensive captains, defensive end Aaron Kampman and linebacker Daryl Smith are the defensive captains and fullback Montell Owens and receiver Kassim Osgood are the special teams captains. Owens, Jones-Drew, quarterback David Garrard, defensive end Reggie Hayward and cornerback Rashean Mathis were captains in 2009. The Jaguars did not select team captains last season. Smith was also selected captain in 2008. Britton's back After missing every preseason game following a back procedure to repair a herniated disc, Jaguars right"
Jaguars Notebook: Action at last for Maurice Jones-Drew, Aaron Kampman
"Maurice Jones-Drew relished the first time he got hit in practice during training camp, and he was just as pleased to see game action on Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams. It was the first time since December Jones-Drew played in an NFL game, albeit a preseason one. "I should have went 95 [yards] on one, but we'll set up for week one," Jones-Drew said. When asked what he'd tell people wondering about his readiness for the opener, Jones-Drew replied: "If they don't see it now, I don't know what to tell them." Jones-Drew played in two series and rushed five times for 14 yards. He was responsible for one first down with a 14-yard run to start the Jaguars' second offensive series. "It"
Maurice Jones-Drew ready to 'burst' in Jaguars' preseason finale
"In most years, the fourth NFL preseason game is reserved for those players still fighting for roster spots. Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew likes to say he's one of those players this preseason, having had his repetitions limited in practice. A few weeks ago he called himself last on the depth chart. On Monday he upgraded himself to fourth because of injuries to backup Rashad Jennings and third-stringer Deji Karim. The Pro Bowl running back is not fourth on the depth chart, of course. But he is expected to see some time in Thursday's preseason finale against the St. Louis Rams. It will be his first game action this season. The Jaguars held him out until now, being cautious eight"
Maurice Jones-Drew says he has no pain in knee
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew provided an upbeat report on the condition of his surgically repaired right knee Sunday after practicing in team drills Saturday night. "I got to practice with the team the whole time, which was awesome. No swelling. No nothing. Everything is great, and I think that is a positive step in where we need to go," he said. He said he feels no pain in his knee after playing in pain all last year before being forced out of the lineup for the final two games. "There's just no pain at all. I think that's the biggest thing. No matter how tough it is or how sharp the pain is or dull the pain is, it's pain. This year, there is no pain," Jones-Drew said."
Maurice Jones-Drew talks Jay Cutler
"Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew levied criticism at Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler months ago for sitting out the second half of the NFC Championship Game after sustaining a sprained MCL. Weeks after, Jones-Drew clarified his comments, but never apologized for them. In a recent NFL Network interview, now posted on ProFootballTalk.com, the running back said there's no plans for an apology, adding that he doesn't "regret anything I do." "I knew what I was doing when I tweeted it," Jones-Drew said. "I just didn't know that many people were following me at the time.""
Maurice Jones-Drew, Aaron Kampman won't make trip to New England
"At least four starters won't play Thursday night when the Jaguars face the New England Patriots, and at least two of them won't make the trip. The Jaguars are leaving behind running back Maurice Jones-Drew and defensive end Aaron Kampman, both of whom are coming off knee surgeries. Tight end Marcedes Lewis will travel and go through warmups, but he isn't likely to play. "The thought is now, are we going to play him a little or just not play him?" Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said "Sitting here right now, I'd have to tell you honestly I'm considering just not playing him." Lewis began practicing with the team Friday after signing a five-year, $34 million contract. Quarterback David"
Maurice Jones-Drew, David Garrard upbeat about Jaguars heading into camp
"Quarterback David Garrard and running back Maurice Jones-Drew, the two players who make the Jaguars' offense go, both ended last season on the sidelines with injuries. Garrard suffered a torn ligament and tendon on the middle finger of his throwing hand and sat out the season finale at Houston. He also missed a game earlier in the year with a concussion. Jones-Drew missed the final two games of the season with a torn meniscus in his left knee that he played on all season. Both players put those injuries in the past and were upbeat about their physical condition when they reported to camp Wednesday. "It's great,'' Garrard said of his finger. ''I've got full flexibility. I can throw the ball"
Maurice Jones-Drew: Wounded knee won't slow me
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is keenly aware of speculation and doubt about how his surgically repaired knee will function during the 2011 season, whenever it begins. That's part of what's driving him this summer — he doesn't want any questions to linger in his coaches' minds about his health. "I can still carry the load regardless of what surgery I had or whatnot," Jones-Drew said. "They're going to be kind of anxious to throw Rashad [Jennings] in, and they're already kind of scared of my knee. ... I want to be able to be out the gates playing because it's a production-based business. They're already skeptical maybe it's his knee, maybe we're working him too hard, we should"
Jones-Drew expects to be 100% within a month
"Appearing on Sirius NFL Radio Friday evening, Maurice Jones-Drew (knee surgery) said he expects to be 100 percent "within 3-4 weeks." Jones-Drew currently feels 80-85 percent. While the news seems positive at first glance, the soundness of MJD's surgically repaired knee won't be tested until he begins taking hits on it in training camp. We're skeptical it will respond well after a torn meniscus that became apparent in the preseason became bone-on-bone by year's end."
Maurice Jones-Drew says his comments about the Jaguars draft were taken out of context
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew said Tuesday on his radio show on SiriusXM that his comments about the Jaguars draft were taken out of context. Jones-Drew said Tuesday that although he'd seen reported that the pick upset him, that wasn't accurate. "No, I said I was shocked," Jones-Drew said. "I said that from the jump. Now it's kind of like all these things are coming up. ... [It's] people taking everything out of context, trying to stir up some controversy. I guess that's what they're supposed to do. I know on this show we just tell it how it is." Jacksonville traded up to take Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert with the 10th overall pick in April's draft."
Jones-Drew defends Garrard, thinks QB deserves more time
"The Jaguars used the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to select Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert, but Jacksonville's biggest star isn't convinced it was the right decision. Maurice Jones-Drew, who has rushed for over 1,300 yards in back-to-back seasons, said Monday on "NFL Total Access" that the offense needed more time to develop, not a new face of the franchise. "I just feel like what we needed as an offense wasn't a new quarterback, we just needed another year amongst each other because we had a lot of new players come in," Jones-Drew said. "You see a team like the Patriots or the Steelers or the Colts, those guys (have) been in the same system for the 10, 12 years together,"
Jaguars Maurice Jones-Drew and Aaron Kampman will be limited in training camp
"Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and defensive end Aaron Kampman will be limited in training camp, despite the fact that both will be healthy by that time, Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said. Both Jones-Drew and Kampman had knee surgeries. Kampman had his during the season after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a non-contact drill in practice. Kampman has torn the ACLs in both knees. Kampman entered the 2010 season, his first after joining the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent, coming off ACL surgery as well."

Maurice Jones-Drew is able to run ahead of schedule after January knee surgery
"Maurice Jones-Drew is already able to run, one month ahead of schedule, after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in January. "The knee's doing great," Jones-Drew said during his first in a series of weekly radio shows on SiriusXM. "I'm ahead of schedule. ... I've been meeting with doctors everyday, just been pushing through, working through everything." Jones-Drew tore his meniscus in the preseason and sat out the final two preseason games to rest it. He opted not to have the knee surgically repaired and instead went as long as he could with the slight tear. By the end of the season Jones-Drew's knee cartilage was completely worn down, causing a bone-on-bone situation. He was"
Maurice Jones-Drew talks health insurance on Twitter
"Players aren't getting a lot of sympathy from the general public about their health insurance running out once the CBA (and its extensions) expired. Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew tried to explain his position on Twitter today. He said it wasn't about the cost of insurance, but rather the availability and the quality. Jones-Drew said he was denied coverage from two insurance companies as he tried to search for a plan that was better than the COBRA option available to players. Jones-Drew had arthroscopic knee surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus which left his left knee almost completely without cartilage separating the bones. That was the only injury that kept him out of"
Maurice Jones-Drew won't apologize for criticizing Cutler
"Maurice Jones-Drew won't apologize for his critical tweet of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, but the Jacksonville Jaguars running back wants to move on from the controversy he and several other players created during the NFC Championship Game on Jan. 23. "If I did something wrong I would apologize," Jones-Drew said Wednesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I didn't mean any hard feelings by it. I think [Cutler] understands that as well. I really think that the media took it out of control and got offended by it because players said it before certain media said it." An injured Cutler left the Bears' 21-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers after he played one series in the"
MJD: Death threats in wake of Cutler tweets being ignored
"As Maurice Jones-Drew sees it, what he went through in the wake of his comments about Jay Cutler hasn't been taken seriously enough. Jones-Drew, the Jacksonville Jaguars' two-time Pro Bowl running back, said he and his family received death threats after he tweeted comments about Cutler -- the Chicago Bears quarterback -- during the Bears' loss in the NFC Championship Game Sunday. Jones-Drew made his assertion during an exchange with fans on Twitter Tuesday. "I guess death threats towards me and my family isn't head line news but me tweeting my opinion about a person is . . ." Jones-Drew tweeted. "The society is backwards I guess we haven't came far enough as human beings. "When has a"
Maurice Jones-Drew's cuts on Jay Cutler weren't so sharp
"Now that it's obvious Maurice Jones-Drew and some NFL players secretly want to be opinionated columnists (warning: you'll have to take a pay cut), they should know there's going to be feedback. And it's not always going to be pleasant. You want to be loud and proud in the Twitter world? Fine. Just don't complain, or worse, go silent when those of us who do this for a living call you out for prematurely calling someone else out. Sometimes, things are better left unsaid or unwritten until, as Jones-Drew occasionally lectures the media, "You get your facts straight." For instance, all the NFL ballers who were part of the Jay Cutler pilers-on Sunday after the Chicago Bears quarterback left the"
Jones-Drew to skip Pro Bowl because of knee injury
"The Tennessee Titans officially announced that running back Chris Johnson will attend the Pro Bowl in place of Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. Jones-Drew was selected to his second Pro Bowl this season. He was voted the starting running back for the AFC. In his absence, Houston's Arian Foster will be the conference's starter in Hawaii later this month. Kansas City's Jamaal Charles is also on the Pro Bowl roster. Johnson was the first alternate. Jones-Drew had the surgery on Jan. 5 to repair torn meniscus, the cartilage inside the knee. He played on the injury all season and was told it might not last him the whole year. He missed"
Questions about Maurice Jones-Drew's knee are fair game
"Maurice Jones-Drew is a great running back and deserves a lot of credit for having a productive season on an impaired knee, which has obviously become a source of frustration. One day after the season ended, Jones-Drew became agitated when reporters made inquiries about the status of his knee, saying it was none of anybody's business. When pressed about it, he replied: "I'm about to explode." If Jones-Drew doesn't want to comment, that's his choice. But to suggest his knee is an out-of-bounds topic, especially when fans who help pay his salary and fantasy league owners he targets are naturally curious, is poor judgment. The media was simply providing an opportunity for him to relay news"
Maurice Jones-Drew has successful knee surgery
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew underwent successful surgery on his ailing right knee Wednesday and is expected to make a complete recovery for the 2011 season. Jones-Drew suffered the injury in training camp and declined to have surgery then. He sat out the last two weeks of the regular season, then played 14 games on the injured knee, gaining 1,324 yards, which ranked fifth in the NFL this season."
Maurice Jones-Drew says Jaguars fans need to step up
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew doesn't understand what's so difficult about selling tickets to Jaguars games in Jacksonville. "It's not rocket science," Jones-Drew said. "Why is it so hard? It shouldn't be that difficult." The Jaguars didn't have any games blacked out this season, a year after the franchise blacked out nine of 10 home games including two in the preseason. But selling tickets was still more difficult than in other markets and they also did not have any true sellouts. Twice this season the Jaguars asked for extensions from the NFL to sell enough tickets to avoid a blackout. One of the major problems, perception-wise, for the Jaguars has been the trouble they've had"
Maurice Jones-Drew will have knee scope this week
"Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said he thinks Maurice Jones-Drew's arthroscopic knee surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. The Jaguars running back made the trip to Houston but did not play and declined to speak to reporters. Jones-Drew injured the knee in the preseason. He played 14 regular-season games this season with damaged meniscus, hoping to make it through the year before surgically repairing it. Before the Jaguars played the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15, Jones-Drew's knee began to swell. He played at Indianapolis despite the swelling, but was shut down for the final two games of the season. Jones-Drew finished the season with 1,324 rushing yards. After the Colts game, he trailed only"
