This offseason, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady are all expected to receive lucrative contract extensions. The deals of all three franchise quarterbacks expire in the next year or two, so it makes perfect sense for their teams to lock them up with new deals. There has been no chatter, however, about an extension for Matt Hasselbeck. Of course, that's not surprising, considering the poor performance of the Seahawks over the last two years and the fact that the team is under new management. But make no mistake: Hasselbeck is every bit as important to the Seahawks as Manning is to the Colts, Brees is to the Saints, and Brady is to the Patriots. No one would argue that Hasselbeck is ..."

The Seahawks again went through another horrible season, only this time Matt Hasselbeck wasn't watching a Seneca Wallace-led Seahawks team slump to a 4-12 record. Unfortunately for Hasselbeck, he was the starter for all but two games of 2009. The Seahawks did not fare much better as they finished 5-11. Now, as the Seahawks prepare for a new season with a new head coach, the question remains: will Matt Hasselbeck be with the Seahawks in 2010? There are several things that could happen this offseason with No. 8: 1. The Seahawks Could Trade Hasselbeck to Minnesota This doesn't seem to be too far out of left field. The Vikings may not have Brett Favre coming back after a horrific end to his ..."

There have been some whispers around the league, similar to last off-season, that the Seattle Seahawks could make the aging Matt Hasselbeck available in the right deal. Although new Head Coach Pete Carroll has praised Hasselbeck and said he looks forward to having a Quarterback with his experience, the new regime may want to completely blow up and start over. Even in a down year in a broken down offense, no running game, and back-to-back four-INT games, he still finished with the 17th best passer rating; ahead of 15 other starting QB's. If he has an offensive line in front of him, he can still be a top ten passer. I personally don't advocate dealing Hasselbeck, I think they have other more ..."

The 2009 season has come and gone for the Seattle Seahawks. Like any good fan, I was watching and cheering for my team right up until the very end. On Sunday, finally, it came to an end. Many questions linger now. What comes next? Who stays? Who will be gone when we take the field in 2010? First, I want to say I don't believe you can blame this season on Matt Hasselbeck. Did he struggle through the final month of the season? Of course, even the biggest Hasselbeck fan, blinded by the shine from his bald dome, can see that. But why did he struggle? Injuries certainly played a role in his numbers falling off, and those injuries are a direct result of Seattle Seahawks management allowing the ..."

The three biggest football questions in Seattle over the past week have been: (1) Who is going to replace Tim Ruskell as the Seahawks' general manager, (2) is UW junior quarterback Jake Locker going to turn pro, and (3) will the Seahawks' new GM draft Locker in the first round if he does turn pro? Of course, all of the Seattle SeaDawgs (those hybrid Seahawk/Husky fans) want the Hawks to draft Locker. Others want them to pick Oklahoma's Sam Bradford or Notre Dame junior Jimmy Clausen. Then there's Texas senior Colt McCoy and everyone's Florida dreamboat, Tim Tebow. There is much debate about which quarterback is the best, but it doesn't really matter: The Seahawks shouldn't be looking for a ..."

Matt Hasselbeck might miss a little practice this week as his sore shoulder heals, but Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora expects all hands on deck when his team plays at Houston this Sunday. Hasselbeck spent a lot of time icing his right shoulder following Sunday's 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers after being hit from behind with a knee on a third-and-1 sack when he tried to scramble out of the pocket in the third quarter. The same shoulder bothered him for a few weeks last month, but had been feeling better recently and Mora said he expected his quarterback to be fine by Sunday. Mora said his team came out of Sunday's game with a relatively clean bill of health, a welcome recent trend ..."

It was hard to tell last Sunday when the Seattle Seahawks passing game totaled a season-low 95 yards, but coach Jim Mora says quarterback Matt Hasselbeck finally appears fully healthy again and is throwing better downfield. The Seahawks relied heavily on their run game in a 27-17 victory at St. Louis, racking up a season-best 170 yards on the ground. Mora said he'd like to see more of a deep threat with his passing offense, but acknowledged that required providing Hasselbeck sufficient time in the pocket to let those routes develop. "Downfield threats start with being able to make sure we give our quarterback time to throw it and then getting the right coverages when the play is called," ..."

After spotting the Detroit Lions a 17-point lead following their worst start since, well, three weeks ago against Arizona, the Seahawks fought their way back for a 32-20 victory Sunday at Qwest Field. It took five interceptions by Detroit rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford and a record-setting passing day by Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, but in the end the Seahawks avoided disaster in improving their record to 3-5. Josh Wilson's 61-yard interception return with 22 seconds left sealed the deal as Detroit's No. 1 draft pick struggled through a rough day in the Qwest Field din. The Seahawks' season seemed on the brink of going completely under until Seattle's defense began forcing turnovers. ..."

It wasn't Matt Hasselbeck's prettiest game. Wasn't his proudest moment. Won't likely even be a Sunday remembered beyond next week. But when the Seattle Seahawks needed to find a way to win a game they simply couldn't afford to lose, Hasselbeck put things on his sore shoulders and passed his club to a 32-20 victory over the Detroit Lions. Hasselbeck completed a franchise-record 39 passes and threw for 329 yards, his highest total in two years, in a dink-and-dunk day that did just enough to beat a 1-7 Detroit club. Seattle coach Jim Mora concluded "very early" that the Seahawks weren't going to succeed by running the ball, a point upheld by the day-long total of 51 yards rushing on 18 tries. ..."

While the Seattle Seahawks listed both quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and offensive tackle Sean Locklear as limited in practice on their injury report to the league following Wednesday's workout, the two veterans are in far different situations heading into this weekend's game against Detroit. Hasselbeck sat out out much of Wednesday's work after being "a little bit beat up" last week in Dallas, according to coach Jim Mora, but is a safe bet to play Sunday against Detroit. On the flip side, Locklear also was held out of much of Wednesday's drills as he begins attempting a comeback from a severe ankle sprain, but likely will be used Sunday only as the team's emergency third tackle if all goes ..."

When Jim Mora climbed Mount Rainier this summer as though it were a neighborhood knoll, he stood on the rugged peak looking to scale even more mountain. He's got one now. His Seahawks are on a two-game losing streak and in danger of falling three games out of the NFC West lead just four weeks into the season. Seattle plans to be without quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and key blocker Walter Jones again on Sunday - when they play Peyton Manning and the undefeated Colts in Indianapolis. And, oh yeah, Seattle has lost 10 of its last 12 road games. It's the kind of challenge mountaineering legend Ed Viesturs said Mora was looking for back in July, when they stood atop 14,411-foot Rainier with the ..."

Before Sunday's playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Tarvaris Jackson was expected to be the Vikings' top quarterback heading into training camp next season. Now, though, Jackson's status is unclear. The Vikings might have options to find a starting quarterback, but those, too, are unclear. If team owner Zygi Wilf, who invested $60 million in guaranteed contracts this season, is willing to guarantee an additional $30 million or so, the team might be able to pry Matt Cassel away from the New England Patriots. Besides a new contract for Cassel, 26, the price of a trade would be high — perhaps first-round and second-round draft picks. It's unclear whether New England would be willing to ..."

What did Mike Holmgren ever do to deserve this? A 2-10 season that already was down to last-straw status only got more painful Friday, when quarterback Matt Hasselbeck could not practice and was listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots because his troublesome back is bothering him again. But that was only part of the story, as left tackle Walter Jones is listed as questionable after not practicing for the third consecutive day because of a sore knee, and left guard Mike Wahle was placed on injured reserve because he needs arthroscopic surgery to repair a range-of-motion problem in his right shoulder. Oh, and leading tackler Leroy Hill also is questionable ..."
