Martell Webster News & Rumors

In terms of health, big game is a huge deal for Wolves' Martell Webster
"Listen to Timberwolves guard Martell Webster speak, examine his lengthy NBA résumé or watch him stretch and rehabilitate his slowly healing body and it's so easy to forget one thing about a guy who's already midway through his seventh NBA season: He's only 25 years old. While Timberwolves brass searches league rosters looking to add by a March 15 trade deadline the starting shooting guard they clearly lack, is it still possible the player they seek is right in their midst? Webster's season-high 21 points in Saturday's 122-110 victory helped the Wolves win for the first time since December 2005 in Portland, where Webster played his first five NBA seasons and where he still lives. That"
Webster treats back with care
"Martell Webster is only 25 years old, but sometimes he feels like an old man. Especially in the morning, when he has to coax himself out of bed. "It's funny," he said. "I play jokes on myself, just to try to get myself out of bed. Like, 'Come on, old man, get up.' I go in there and get my Osteo Bi-Flex, my joint medication." The reason, of course, is two lower-back operations the past two years. The most recent, coming during the offseason, kept the Timberwolves shooting guard out of action until late January. But here's the hardest part: Webster said he's still not the player he was coming into the league in 2005. "If you were to compare it to how it was when I first got into the league,"
Timberwolves' Martell Webster eager to return from ailing back
"Timberwolves shooting guard Martell Webster, recovering from a second surgery on his lower back, is hoping an examination today in Portland will lead to approval for full workouts with the team and his eventual debut in the 2011-12 season. "I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm pretty optimistic," Webster said. "I think I'll be cleared. If it was up to me, I would be playing already." Webster, 25, has been on a rehabilitation program since undergoing microdiscectomy surgery Sept. 28 to relieve pain in his lower back. It's the same procedure that cost the six-year veteran the first 24 games of the 2010-11 season. Back soreness forced Webster to miss 10 more games later that season."
Love and rebuilt Wolves welcome Rubio while bracing for lockout
"The reconstituted Timberwolves unofficially, incompletely convened at Target Center on Saturday, gathering for the first time on the court with newly added Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams and Malcolm Lee running alongside Kevin Love, Wes Johnson, Anthony Randolph and Martell Webster in a pickup-game preview. By Friday, those gym doors very well could be padlocked to them in a NBA labor lockout for which Love has been preparing, hoping all along that it won't really come. That's why, three pro seasons into his rookie contract, he still hasn't gone and bought himself a house in Los Angeles, his offseason home. That's why he's joined the thoughtful crowd in anticipating what could be a lengthy"
Wolves' Webster strong, and ready to prove it
"There is still time, Martell Webster said. Not a lot, to be sure. The Timberwolves' game with Dallas Monday is one of 18 left in the season. But it's enough time to show everybody why the Wolves traded with Portland to get the athletic shooting guard last summer. "I'm as close [to 100 percent] as I'm going to get," Webster said after Sunday's practice. Webster is expected to see his first action in eight games vs. Dallas. "I feel good. There is still a little minor nagging," he said. "But I'd rather deal with a little minor nagging than complete discomfort and pain." There has been plenty of that. In the preseason, Webster showed a nice combination of long-range shooting, quick defense and"
Webster sits out second straight game because of back spasms
"The Timberwolves continue to be cautious with swingman Martell Webster because of his lingering back spasms. Webster sat out his second straight game and spent part of Friday night's 95-81 loss to New Orleans riding a stationary bike behind the Wolves' bench to keep his back loose. Wolves coach Kurt Rambis was uncertain when Webster, acquired this season to be a key performer off the bench, will return to the lineup. Rambis experimented with starting Webster in the Wolves' Feb. 16 game against the Los Angeles Clippers, but Webster has played only 16 minutes since that game. "His back is clearly bothering him," Rambis said. "Considering how well he played in the preseason and how"
Martell Webster gets his McDonald's All-American ring back... and the rest of us get more questions
"Former Blazers guard-forward Martell Webster confirmed that he got his McDonald's All-American ring back on Monday night at the Rose Garden Arena. The ring went missing from his Tualatin-area home recently, (Read: stolen) and turned up in the hands of Daniel Tracy, 47, from Gladstone. Tracy claims he bought the ring on Craigslist for $75. Webster wanted it back."
A big trade coming at the Rose Garden Arena
"There are two willing parties. There is something to gain on both sides. And because of these factors, I am certain that at least one big trade will go down tonight at the Rose Garden. Dan Tracy is 57, and he ends up on one side of this deal. And Martell Webster, the Minnesota Timberwolves player, ends up on the other end. And while we know that Webster was traded to the Timberwolves last June after playing for the Blazers for several seasons, what you probably didn't know until now is that Tracy is a volunteer firefighter in Gladstone, automobile mechanic and Craigslist junkie. "You can buy anything and everything on Craigslist," Tracy said, "and when I say anything and everything, I mean"
Timberwolves draft Wesley Johnson, reportedly trade second pick for Blazers' Martell Webster
"The Minnesota Timberwolves selected 6-foot-7 Syracuse forward Wesley Johnson tonight with the fourth pick in the NBA draft. Johnson left Syracuse after his junior year and quickly emerged as the Wolves' likely choice if he were still available at the No. 4 pick. Johnson, 22, was available after New Jersey, which had shown interest in Johnson, decided to select Georgia Tech power forward Derrick Favors with the No. 3 pick. "Wesley is both an incredibly talented player and an outstanding young man," Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn said in a statement. "He'll bring some much-needed length, athleticism and shooting ability to our roster and will be an important piece"
Martell Webster has career night, but Brandon Roy's hamstring casts shadow on blowout win
"The box score will reveal a lopsided Trail Blazers victory. ESPN's "SportsCenter" will probably show highlights of Rudy Fernandez alley-oop layups, Martell Webster three-pointers and LaMarcus Aldridge jumpers. But hidden beneath the highs of a 109-87 win over the reeling Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday night at the Rose Garden is a potentially devastating blow to the Blazers' playoff hopes. All-Star Brandon Roy, who has been plagued by a nagging strained right hamstring since Jan.2, acknowledged that he is concerned the rest of his season is in jeopardy. "I ... turned to LaMarcus (during the game) and he was like, 'So what do you do next?' Roy said. "I was like, 'I don't know. I don't"
Martell Webster finishes with 14 points, donates $14,000 to Haiti relief effort
"Martell Webster walked away from Wednesday night's embarrassing 106-95 loss against the Utah Jazz doubly embarrassed. The Trail Blazers' starting small forward decided before the game that for every point he scored against the Jazz, he would donate $1,000 to Haiti relief efforts. At halftime he had the following forgettable line: 2 points on 1 of 8 shooting. Webster missed his first seven shots, including all four of his three-point attempts. He recovered in the second half, scoring 12 points, and finished with 14, meaning he will donate $14,000 to Haiti earthquake relief efforts. But after the game, Webster was hardly content."
Martell Webster plays it humble after playing like a star
"He played more minutes, scored more points and hit more three-pointers than he has during any other game in his young NBA career. But after his sensational first half and late clutch free throws helped the Trail Blazers defeat the Detroit Pistons 97-93 on Saturday night, Martell Webster sat in a cramped visiting locker room at The Palace of Auburn Hills and refused to accept one iota of individual praise. "To tell you the truth, I'm a representative tonight," Webster said. "I'm representing the whole team. Personal accolades didn't win this game. Everybody contributing together won this game and I don't really look at anything personal anyway. It was not one man that won this game. So,"
Martell Webster plans his comeback
"Martell Webster struts onto the Trail Blazers' practice court for a workout and stops in his tracks when he spots someone dribbling a basketball. "Let me see your jumper," Webster says with great skepticism, before watching the person brick a baseline shot. "Man, that's ugly." Moments later, Webster scoops up the ball and fires his own shot, which is anything but ugly. Swish. Someone passes the ball back to Webster and he shoots again. Swish. Although he's missed all but five minutes this season because of an injured left foot, one thing is clear: Webster's still got it. During the next hour, with his teammates thousands of miles away on a five-game trip, the fourth-year NBA player"
Agent: Trail Blazers sign swingman Webster to 4-year extension
"Only a handful of players selected in the NBA's 2005 draft will have received a contract extension before Friday's midnight deadline, but you can add Portland Trail Blazers swingman Martell Webster to that list. Webster's agent, Bob Myers, told ESPN.com that the 21-year-old has signed a four-year extension with the Blazers believed to be worth $20 million, very similar to the deal Jason Maxiell received Thursday from the Detroit Pistons. The fourth season of Webster's new contract, which will kick in next season, is at the Blazers' option. Webster was projected to start for the Blazers this season but is expected to miss two months recovering from recent foot surgery. He joins Andrew Bynum"
