Marcus Camby News & Rumors

Raymond Felton's status still uncertain; Marcus Camby misses practice with bronchitis
"Raymond Felton said it won't be his call if he will play in the Trail Blazers' game against Houston in the Rose Garden on Wednesday. "If it's up to me, I'm going to play," said Felton, who sat out the Blazers' loss to Oklahoma City with a sprained left foot. "We'll see what Jay (Jensen) the trainer says." The Blazers officially listed Felton, who suffered the injury Saturday against Denver, as "questionable" for Wednesday and said he would be a game-time decision. Felton said he has been rehabilitating through laser treatment, icing and work in the pool."
Blazers' Batum, Camby plan to play at Toronto
"The Trail Blazers should be back to full strength when they visit the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. Center Marcus Camby, who has missed the last 3 1/2 games with a sprained left ankle, went through a full practice Thursday night in Toronto and said afterward that he was poised to return. Coach Nate McMillan said Camby would move back into the starting lineup at center."
Marcus Camby 'in a lot of pain' after ankle sprain
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby said he is in "a lot of pain" and unable to put weight on his left ankle after it rolled during the second quarter Friday night in San Antonio. Camby said he will not play Saturday in Houston and is doubtful for Monday's game in New Orleans after X-rays revealed the injury is a sprain. Blazers coach Nate McMillan said he hasn't decided on a starting lineup for Houston, but said he is leaning toward moving LaMarcus Aldridge to center, Gerald Wallace to power forward and inserting Nicolas Batum as a starter at small forward. Veteran Kurt Thomas will also be considered as a starter and likely will see a spike in playing time. Camby suffered the injury with"
Marcus Camby's veteran play helps hold Trail Blazers together
"After the Trail Blazers' season-opening victory over Philadelphia on Monday, there will be plenty of talk about the production of LaMarcus Aldridge, the grit of Gerald Wallace, the flash of Jamal Crawford and the pace of Raymond Felton. None of it matters, though, unless ageless center Marcus Camby is there to hold it all together. So go ahead and applaud Aldridge's 25 points. Marvel at Wallace's street-fighter-like 21 points and nine rebounds. Get excited about Crawford's play in that decisive fourth-quarter run, when he was a whirlwind of slicing drives, swishing shots and swirling passes. Just don't forget what Captain Camby did during the Blazers' 107-103 opening-night win. Camby, whom"
Trail Blazers get good MRI news on Marcus Camby's left knee
"For once, the Trail Blazers have received good news following a medical test on a center's knee. The magnetic resonance imaging test performed on Marcus Camby's left knee Thursday revealed that there is no new damage and the Blazers' starting center is officially listed as day-to-day with a sore left knee. Camby tweaked his knee during the Blazers' Wednesday morning shootaround in Salt Lake City and was scratched from the game later that night. Before tip-off, as Camby's knee was wrapped in ice, he said he was "fine" and vowed to play in the Blazers' regular season opener Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Rose Garden."
Marijuana possession charges against Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby dropped
"The marijuana possession charges against Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby have been dropped by the Brazoria County (Texas) district attorney's office and his criminal record has been cleared. Camby and Kendal Johnson were arrested last month after police discovered a small amount of marijuana in Camby's car during a traffic stop in Pearland, Texas. But after weighing evidence — and accepting a guilty plea from Johnson — Camby has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. "For the record, Marcus Camby did not get charged with a crime and Marcus Camby did not possess any marijuana," Randall Novak, Camby's Houston-based attorney, said."
Trail Blazers' Marcus Camby arrested, charged with marijuana possession
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby was arrested earlier this week after a traffic stop in Pearland, Texas, and charged with marijuana possession. Camby, who lives in the Houston area during the offseason, was driving a black Porsche around midnight Monday morning in a school zone, when he was pulled over for an "equipment violation," according to a police spokesman. Officers questioned Camby and a passenger in the car and noticed the smell of burnt marijuana. The officers were granted permission to search Camby's car and discovered less than two ounces of marijuana. Camby and the passenger, 24 year-old Kendal Lance Johnson, were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana in a drug"
Report: Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby arrested, charged with marijuana possession
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby was arrested earlier this week and charged with marijuana possession in Pearland, Texas, according to a published report by the Pearland Journal. Camby, who lives in the Houston area during the offseason, was driving a black Porsche around midnight Monday morning, when he was pulled over for having an illegal sun screen device blocking his front window. Officers questioned Camby and a passenger in the car and noticed the smell of marijuana. The officers were granted permission to search Camby's car and apparently discovered several marijuana cigarettes and a small bag of the same substance under the front seat."
Marcus Camby's hand holds up in Blazers' Game 3 vs. Mavericks
"When Marcus Camby scored on an alley-oop dunk via a pass from guard Andre Miller Thursday night, the play gave Portland a 24-18 lead with 3:05 remaining and also answered any questions about the center's injured right hand. During Portland's 101-89 loss in Game 2 Tuesday in Dallas, Camby injured his hand when it got caught in the jersey of a Mavericks player. Following the game, team medical staff examined it and tried to X-ray it, but Camby adamantly declined the attention and insisted that no matter what he would play in Game 3 on Thursday. He did. And he was effective. He just couldn't stay on the court for long. Camby picked up two fouls in the third quarter to give him four by the"
Marcus Camby returns to practice, three big men work out for team
"The Trail Blazers took two steps to address their shortage of big men Monday, with center Marcus Camby returning to practice and the team holding a workout of three free agent post players. Camby, who missed the Blazers' last two games after injuring his neck in a fall against Golden State six days ago, returned to practice and worked with the first unit. Camby said his neck was "still sore," but he intends to play Tuesday in Portland's home game against Memphis. "It felt good," Camby said of the practice. "My legs are fine getting down the court." Camby's absence forced the Blazers to go with a small starting unit, with LaMarcus Aldridge playing center and Gerald Wallace at power forward."
Blazers not worried about Camby's injury
"As bad as the Blazers' shooting was, their defense was even worse. Monta Ellis (30 points, five assists), Stephen Curry (28 points, eight rebounds, four assists) and David Lee (29 points, 20 rebounds) were a three-headed monster steering a Warriors team that looked like it was the one in a dogfight for the playoffs. "Just one of those games you can't explain," McMillan said. "I can't explain it." And the most alarming part came in the first quarter, when Marcus Camby left with a neck strain and did not return. As he was trailing a play on offense near the basket, Camby's legs tangled with those of Rudy Fernandez and Camby collapsed to the floor. On the way down, David Lee fell hard on top"
X-rays on Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby are negative
"The Trail Blazers received some good news on the injury front as X-rays taken on the right ankle of center Marcus Camby came back negative Monday. Camby's injury is listed as a sprained right ankle. The team is listing him as questionable for Tuesday's home game against the Washington Wizards. The Blazers did not practice today. Camby injured the ankle late in the Blazers' 84-80 loss to the Lakers on Sunday in Los Angeles. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant's foot and Camby's leg were entangled after Bryant made a layup with 4:19 left in the fourth quarter, and Camby's ankle appeared to buckle. Camby lay on the court in pain and had to be helped to the bench, then to the locker room, by teammate"
Camby injures ankle, will undergo x-rays Monday
"Marcus Camby suffered a right ankle injury late in the loss to the Lakers Sunday night and the severity of the injury was unknown when the Blazers boarded a flight to return to Portland. Camby injured his ankle with 4:19 left in the game as he tried to block a reverse layup by Kobe Bryant and landed awkwardly. He left the game immediately, with help from Johnson and team trainer Jay Jensen, and did not return."
Visit with team doctor reveals no problems for left knee of Marcus Camby
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby has been experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee, but an examination by team doctor Don Roberts on Monday showed no reason for concern. The only conclusion out of Monday's meeting with the team's medical staff was that Camby would make a change in the medication he is taking for the knee, which was operated on for a partially torn meniscus on Jan. 20. The soreness is considered normal for a player who underwent surgery, especially for a player like Camby, who turns 37 on March 22. Camby injured the knee on Jan. 17 and missed 16 games. He returned on Feb. 25 against Denver but has been a shadow of the impact player he was before his"
Knicks tried to get Camby in Melo deal
"One of the notable holes in the Knicks' roster that will persist after the Carmelo Anthony trade is a capable, defensive-minded center. The Knicks tried to fill that hole with efforts to draw Portland into the deal as the fourth team and bring Marcus Camby back to New York, two people with knowledge of the talks told CBSSports.com. It wasn't clear what pieces the Knicks would've sent to the Trail Blazers in such a scenario, but both sources said Tuesday afternoon that New York's efforts to get Camby failed. The three-team, 13-player Anthony trade went through Tuesday night with only one minor addition -- Kosta Koufos going from Minnesota to Denver for a second-round pick."
Brandon Roy is a maybe, Marcus Camby doubtful for Lakers games
"Brandon Roy is a maybe, Marcus Camby probably doubtful for the Trail Blazers' home game against the Lakers on Wednesday. That was the big news coming out of practice Tuesday, Portland's first since the players broke up for the All-Star break. Coach Nate McMillan said Roy and Camby went through most of practice and scrimmaged for about 40 minutes. Camby, however, said he is doubtful for Wednesday. The team and Roy will decide after Wednesday's morning shootaround if Roy will play against the Lakers in what would be his first game action since Dec. 15. "He went through the most he's done the last two weeks," McMillan said. "So we'll see how he responds tomorrow morning and make a decision"
Roy, Camby practice; availability for Lakers uncertain
"Brandon Roy and Marcus Camby both practiced with the Trail Blazers Tuesday, but Coach Nate McMillan said their availability for Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. ESPN-televised game against the Los Angeles Lakers won't be known until following Wednesday's shootaround. Roy, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees on Jan. 17 but hasn't played in a game since Dec. 15, seemed to be leaning toward making his return against the Lakers. Camby, who had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Jan. 20, said "it's doubtful" he'll play against the two-time defending NBA champions. Roy and Camby both participated in most of the Blazers' 90-minute workout session, including some halfcourt and fullcourt"
Marcus Camby would 'likely contemplate' retirement if traded
"A source close to Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby said the veteran would "likely contemplate" retirement if the Blazers dealt him before Thursday's NBA trading deadline. "Marcus has made plenty of money in his career, and at this stage would not be keen to move to a rebuilding situation,'' the source said. "If he is traded, he would likely contemplate retirement.'' Camby's agent, Rick Kaplan, on Friday said that line of thinking is consistent with what his client has told him. "He really wants to stay in Portland, it's his No. 1 choice,'' Kaplan said. "It was incredibly important to him when he signed his extension and moved his family that he stay in Portland. I think by now he"
Brandon Roy, Marcus Camby will not play Sunday against Detroit
"No big shock here, but Brandon Roy and Marcus Camby will not play Sunday when the Trail Blazers visit the Detroit Pistons. Both players went through an extensive pregame warmup Friday, before the Blazers defeated the Toronto Raptors, as they continue to work their way back from separate knee surgeries. And both players took baby steps toward a return. Roy, who had arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees Jan. 17, played a lot of one-on-one against rookie forward Luke Babbitt in the pregame session. He occasionally had to take a seat court side to catch his breath, but Roy seemed to play without discomfort and flashed a lot of the moves we've grown accustomed to seeing over the years."
Marcus Camby coy when predicting his return
"If the Trail Blazers have put the brakes on Brandon Roy's ambitious attempt to return on this three-game trip, it's safe to say the team has left the return of Marcus Camby idling in neutral. Camby, in his first interview since resuming practice, said Thursday that he will not play today when the Blazers visit the Toronto Raptors. But after that ... well, nothing has been ruled out. "It's all predicated on how I feel," Camby said after the Blazers went through a light workout at Air Canada Centre on Thursday night. "I really can't give you a definitive answer right now. I just got on the court yesterday for 30 minutes. I've got to crawl before I can walk." Officially, Camby listed himself"
Marcus Camby still weeks away from return
"Blazers center Marcus Camby, who had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Jan. 20, will be with the team on this three-game trip, but he will not play. Camby said he has done stationary shooting and exercises in the pool, as well as two 20-minute running sessions on a non-weight-bearing treadmill. "I'm just trying to bend my knee and get it back into the swing of things. I think it is going well. I have pretty good strength. I feel confident. It is getting better," Camby said."
Marcus Camby making progress toward his return from knee surgery
"After a day off, the Blazers returned to practice Saturday to work on what coach Nate McMillan called "slippage" – the little things that might have slipped a bit during their current two-game losing streak. As usual, the list of players who did not practice was long. Saturday's included rotation regulars Nicolas Batum (bruised knee), Wesley Matthews (sprained ankle) and Rudy Fernandez (ailing back), although none are expected to miss Tuesday's home game against San Antonio. Center Marcus Camby also was in the building, running on the "Ultra G" rehabilitation treadmill. Camby had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on Jan. 20, and the Blazers announced a three-week"
Another one bites the dust; Camby faces knee surgery
"Another Trail Blazer's knee will go under the knife. Latest victim is Marcus Camby, who will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery later this week to repair a partial medial meniscus tear in his left knee. Camby ranks fifth in the NBA in rebounds (11.3) and 10th in blocked shots (1.87)."
Marcus Camby has partial tear of meniscus in left knee; Surgery later this week
"The unprecedented two year run of injuries continued for the Trail Blazers on Tuesday when it was discovered that starting center Marcus Camby has a partial tear in the meniscus in his left knee, which will require surgery later this week. "Just stunned,'' coach Nate McMillan said Tuesday night from Sacramento, where the Blazers will play the Kings on Wednesday. "Really, just stunned. I don't know. I don't know.'' Camby becomes the fifth Trail Blazers player this season to undergo knee surgery, joining Greg Oden, Brandon Roy, Elliot Williams and Jeff Pendergraph. Last season, the Blazers missed a combined 311 games because of injury, second most in the NBA. Three of those injuries also"
Trail Blazers say MRI on left knee of Marcus Camby is negative, but there is still concern
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby had a pronounced limp and winced noticeably as he walked Tuesday on his injured left knee. As a result, the Blazers' training staff was not willing to endorse Camby's knee as injury free, even after the initial reading of Camby's magnetic resonance imaging was deemed "negative" by the company who performed the procedure. Both Camby and athletic trainer Jay Jensen said they are awaiting Blazers' orthopedist Dr. Don Roberts to look at the scans before they will feel assured that no damage occurred Monday night when Camby landed awkwardly on the knee in the first quarter of the Blazers' 113-102 victory against Minnesota."
Career night for LaMarcus Aldridge, but Marcus Camby goes down
"It was a bittersweet start to the second half of the season Monday night for the Trail Blazers. On the one hand, the Blazers enjoyed their highest-scoring outing of the season and LaMarcus Aldridge had another All-Star caliber performance in defeating the woeful Minnesota Timberwolves 113-102 before 20,239 at the Rose Garden. But on the other hand -- surprise, surprise -- the Blazers encountered yet another injury. And it could be another significant one. Marcus Camby hurt his left knee when he went up to block a shot attempt by Minnesota forward Michael Beasley early in the first quarter. Camby, who said he "landed a little awkward" on the way down from the block attempt, left the game"
Marcus Camby to have MRI on Tuesday after injuring his left knee
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby on Monday night said he will have a magnetic resonance imaging performed on his left knee on Tuesday. Camby played seven minutes and 30 seconds of Monday's 113-102 victory over Minnesota at the Rose Garden before being pulled for what he called "precautionary reasons." Camby said he landed awkwardly after falling following a block attempt at a shot by Minnesota forward Michael Beasley. "I went to go block Beasley's shot and kind of landed on (his left knee),'' Camby said as he was leaving the Rose Garden. "I got up and tried to run it off, limp it off. I went up (the court) a few times and it just didn't feel right when I put weight on it, so I went out"
Camby Knows Just What the Knicks Are Missing
"Marcus Camby made the transition long ago from being the mere pogo-stick leaper he was as a Knick. As his points and blocks have dipped, his basketball knowledge has increased and his rebounding remains on par with the N.B.A.'s best. Camby, 36, is aware of the Knicks' resurgence and of what type of player they are in the market for, should they be permanently diverted from their pursuit of Carmelo Anthony. "They have a lot of good pieces," Camby said. "I'm sure they would like to have a center so Amar'e can go back to his natural position at 4.""
Nuggets want five picks for 'Melo
"The Denver Nuggets believe the New Jersey Nets are so desperate to make a deal for Carmelo Anthony that they're holding firm on a trade demand of five future first-round draft picks as part of a package to land the All-Star forward, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. "Denver needs to get real," one front-office executive said. "That's not happening." Even so, Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke and general manager Masai Ujiri privately insist they're going to make a team pay a steep price for their franchise player. After a moratorium on Anthony talks because of the death of his sister and the holidays, the Nuggets and Nets will resume discussions next week. There's still too much posturing to"
Bobcats' Michael Jordan Plots Next Move in Wake of Coaching Change
"The loyalties don't matter as much as the winning anymore. Michael Jordan showed that much on Wednesday, when the Charlotte owner sent the nomadic Larry Brown packing against his will and the North Carolina ties that had brought them together once again no longer mattered. And as Jordan continues to plot ways of remaking this disappointment of a team, the conversations below him continue that could lead to more cold-hearted departures in the name of competitiveness. League sources told FanHouse that the Bobcats and Portland have discussed a trade that would send beloved small forward Gerald Wallace to the Blazers with center DeSagana Diop and point guard D.J. Augustin in exchange for"
Marcus Camby, Wesley Mattews sit out Blazers' game with injuries
"After this preseason is all said and done for the Trail Blazers, it might not matter that Brandon Roy wants to run the offense, or that Rudy Fernandez wants out of town or that general manager Rich Cho has yet to make a move. Now 10 days from the season opener, the Blazers continue to more resemble a M.A.S.H unit than a team that is meshing, as two key players joined the walking wounded Saturday, threatening to render moot the encouraging signs from Saturday's 118-105 exhibition victory over Golden State at the Rose Garden. Wesley Matthews, one of the Blazers best players this preseason, played only four minutes before having to leave with a sore right Achilles' tendon that he first"
Marcus Camby sits again, status for preseason opener questionable
"Marcus Camby's ailing groin forced him to miss his third consecutive day of training camp Saturday, when the Trail Blazers went through a workout at the practice facility in Tualatin. Camby underwent treatment on his groin and was examined by team doctors, who confirmed that his injury is a right groin strain. The Blazers only healthy center — Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla are still rehabbing from separate knee surgeries — could not say when he would return to practice, let alone guarantee that he would play in the team's exhibition opener Tuesday night at the Rose Garden."
Headed back from Barcelona to Blazers, humanitarian Marcus Camby ready for his 15th NBA season
"It was 9 p.m. Thursday in Barcelona, and Marcus Camby's voice sounded juiced after his first day with the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program in Spanish city. "It's been going great," the veteran center of the Trail Blazers said. "We visited the U.S. Embassy, met with a lot of people from different organizations, put on a camp for some players. It's been a lot of fun." For the past decades through Basketball Without Borders, the NBA has been sending its coaches and players to the far reaches of the globe to promote the game as well as education, health, fitness and lifestyle awareness. This is the second "tour of duty" for Camby, who was part of a contingent that visited South Africa"
Marcus Camby, Nic Batum earn NBA All-Defensive Team votes
"Marcus Camby received 12 points, including one first-place vote, and second-year forward Nic Batum two points as the NBA released its All-Defensive Team Wednesday. The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked toNBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote."
Done deal: Marcus Camby signs two-year extension with Trail Blazers
"Marcus Camby said the fans of Portland played a major role in his decision to sign a two-year contract extension with the Trail Blazers. Camby this afternoon signed a two-year deal that will pay him $21 million guaranteed, with an additional $5 million in incentives. Camby, 36, was preparing to become a free agent for the first time in his 14-year career, but after being traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to Portland on Feb. 16, he said he fell in love with the Blazers' culture. "The main reason is the fans really made me feel like home since Day 1,'' Camby said today shortly before signing the contract. "Every day I go around the city, everyone has been thanking me for coming, and it"
Blazers, veteran center agree on deal
"The Trail Blazers have agreed to a contract extension for Marcus Camby. And the Portland fans get a big assist for their part in the deal, which is subject to NBA approval, something the team hopes to come Monday or Tuesday. The veteran center said he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received since coming to the Blazers in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers in February. Camby was touched by the reception last week when he was serenaded with "Mar-cus Cam-bee!" chants at the Rose Garden late in the Blazers' victory over Oklahoma City. "Ever since I got to Portland, everywhere I've gone, the people have embraced me like I've been a Blazer my whole career - or actually, like I'm"
Marcus Camby close to signing 2-year extension with Trail Blazers
"Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby and the Trail Blazers are close to signing a two-year extension, which could be signed as early as today. "Since the day Marcus was traded, the Blazers and Marcus made it clear it was not for an interim engagement,'' said Camby's agent, Rick Kaplan. "It has been our goal to get something done, and hopefully he will stay in Portland long term.''"
Trail Blazers make Portland feel like home to Marcus Camby
"The water, Marcus Camby says, is so still that you can see the reflection of the clouds above, creating such a mesmerizing image that only the occasional airplane flying overhead tells him it's not a painting. "It's kind of surreal," Camby says, his memory drifting back to the water. He calls it "Lake Camby" - laughing at the liberty he took in naming the body of water - because it takes up nearly half of his permanent home, a 25-acre property in Pearland, Texas, a Houston suburb."
Camby-Bayno bond goes way back - and helped bring veteran big man to Blazers
"There was a bonus for Marcus Camby when the Trail Blazers traded for him at midseason - a reunion with Portland assistant coach Bill Bayno. Camby's relationship with Bayno goes back to the 6-11 center's days as a high-schooler in Hartford, Conn. "We've known each other for 20 years now," says Camby, 36. "That's a long time." At the time, Bayno was an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts, the recruiting ace on coach John Calipari's staff. Camby transferred schools and didn't play during his junior season, so he was under the radar at the time. Bayno received a phone call from a friend in Hartford. "She said, 'I've got this 7-footer, and he's really good,' " Bayno says. "I"
Camby's dandy as Blazers roll Thunder
""Mar-cus Cam-bee!" the partisans chanted in unison. The tribute was on target. On a night when Portland learned it could be without Brandon Roy for the rest of the season, Marcus Camby was celestial, or something very close to it. Camby, looking a decade younger than his 36 years, was a man possessed in leading Portland (50-31) to the 103-95 win that was pivotal in positioning for the Western Conference playoff race. The veteran center collected a season-high 30 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, knocking down 12 of 16 shots as the Blazers - a day after beating the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center - assured themselves of no worse than seventh place in the West. Portland - which"
Thomsen: Camby hits his stride in Portland
"Good piece today from Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen on Marcus Camby finding his groove in Portland and what lies ahead this summer, Camby hits his stride in Portland: Now that he's been in Portland for almost two months, he said he doesn't want to leave. He likes the selflessness and promise of the young Blazers, and the idea of returning next year to take pressure off Greg Oden, who could find his way by coming off the bench in support of Camby. But Camby will have other options as a free agent this summer. His last three employers -- the Knicks (1998-2002), Nuggets and Clippers -- have each let him know they'd like him to return, and an even more intriguing offer may come from"
Marcus Camby on facing his former team and the playoff mindset
"The Trail Blazers (47-30) used Tuesday's practice to get ready for Wednesday's game with the Los Angeles Clippers (27-50), a team new Blazers center Marcus Camby knows pretty well. While Portland is not facing a playoff-caliber opponent in tomorrow night's game at the Staples Center, the Blazers are very much in a playoff mindset for the final five games of the regular season."
Camby may rebound in Big Apple
"As he left Portland's Rose Garden late Wednesday, Marcus Camby carried a plastic bag with some Knicks jerseys and warm-ups inside. Gifts from old friends on the Knicks' support staff. Camby realizes it's possible he will be wearing the Knicks jersey again for real next season and couldn't hide that old grin when discussing that scenario. At age 36, the 6-foot-11 Blazers center will be a free agent July 1, available for a mid-range salary the Knicks will try to fit under the salary cap. They have no center or shot-blocker. Although the Knicks first want to bring in star power, Camby, who played for the Knicks from 1999-2002, fulfills a grave need, and coach Mike D'Antoni and team president"
New York Knicks interested in getting center Marcus Camby back to Madison Square Garden
"The recruitment of Marcus Camby may have already begun, judging by contraband he carried out of the Rose Garden late Wednesday. As Camby spoke to reporters, he was clutching a plastic bag containing home and away Knick uniforms. "I've still got a lot of friends on that team," Camby said. "You can see by all the gear they gave me." Imagine the stir LeBron James would create if he were spotted holding a Knicks uniform. Of course, the Knicks would like nothing more than to present James with orange and blue threads this summer. And they would like Camby to be one of his teammates. The Knicks, according to sources, are expected to make a strong push to sign Camby, the one-time backup center"
Marcus Camby, an adept high-post passer, brings more than defense to Portland
"When the Trail Blazers acquired Marcus Camby before the NBA trade deadline, they knew they were adding a difference-making defender and rebounder who would instantly provide some intimidation inside. What they didn't expect was that Camby's addition would stimulate evolution within the Blazers' offense. But over the past month, particularly in recent games, that's precisely what has happened as coach Nate McMillan has installed and used new offensive sets that capitalize on Camby's underrated passing ability. Turns out the defensive specialist is multidimensional. "It's another option that you can try to take advantage of," McMillan said. "I just think both he and (Juwan) Howard are"
Showing what he can do
"The veteran center, acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, sprained his right ankle and missed a Feb. 24 game against Toronto. He sprained his left ankle and missed last Sunday's game at Denver. In his first seven games as a Blazer, Camby - who came into the game as the NBA's No. 2 rebounder and No. 6 shot-blocker - was averaging 3.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 27.6 minutes. Never a prolific scorer but blessed with a decent midrange set shot, Camby was only 10 for 31 from the field and seemed reluctant to put one up. Then came Tuesday night against Sacramento at the Rose Garden. The 6-11 Camby was a large presence, in both coaches' minds the difference in Portland's"
Health usually an issue for Marcus Camby
"The Trail Blazers could've used Marcus Camby against Denver Sunday night. The Nuggets outscored the Blazers 42-26 in the paint and many of the Nuggets' points in the paint came by way of dunks and layups (15 dunks or layups) in the game. That's exactly one of reasons why the Blazers acquired Camby, to block or alter a few of those high-percentage shot attempts. However, Camby sat out Sunday's game with a sprained ankle and his brittleness has followed him throughout his career. Sprained ankles have already caused him to miss two of the nine games that he was available to play since coming to the Blazers. He played five minutes before a sprained ankle forced him out of the Blazers' game"
Marcus Camby headlines Donnie Walsh's supporting cast in case Lebron James joins New York Knicks
"The Knicks' primary target this summer is LeBron James, but when it comes to the supporting cast Donnie Walsh plans to assemble, the team president has his eye on a free agent with New York ties. The Knicks, according to sources, will make a strong push for Marcus Camby, who 11 years ago played a significant role in helping the Knicks reach the NBA Finals. Walsh has tried for two years to acquire the 7-foot Camby and last month lost out again when the Clippers traded him to Portland. Although Camby turns 36 in two weeks, he still moves well and doesn't need the ball to make an impact. Instead, he is the shot-blocking, rebounding type of center Walsh and Mike D'Antoni covet. "He only has"
Marcus Camby injures ankle in practice, will undergo X-rays
"The injury bug bit the Trail Blazers yet again on Friday. Marcus Camby, whom the Blazers acquired near the NBA trade deadline to fortify the interior, injured his left ankle during practice and was scheduled to undergo X-rays Friday to learn the extent of the injury. During a intrasquad scrimmage, Camby ran into the basketball standard and was immediately pulled. He missed most of the two-hour workout. When practice was opened to the media, Camby was receiving treatment and was unavailable for comment. Coach Nate McMillan was hopeful the injury was not serious, but said his starting center would have X-rays taken as a precaution. "We're hoping it's going to be OK," McMillan said."
