Lubomir Visnovsky News & Rumors

Visnovsky out for four weeks
"Lubomir Visnovsky got caught out on an extremely long shift late in the Ducks' 4-3 victory Friday over Vancouver and it was a very painful one, as the club soon found out. Visnovsky will be out of the lineup for four weeks after suffering a broken finger on his right hand that was the result of blocking a shot in the final minutes of regulation. The veteran defenseman isn't expected to require surgery for the finger to heal and he should be able to return by the second week of December. Visnovsky was already playing with a broken finger on his left hand that wasn't as severe. "It's good that I don't need the surgery," Visnovsky said Saturday after the Ducks practiced at Anaheim Ice. "I got"
Ducks' Visnovsky out with broken finger
"Anaheim Ducks defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky is expected to miss up to a month with a broken finger after being hit with a shot Friday night against Vancouver, a team spokesman said Saturday. Visnovsky has one goal and four points for the Ducks this season. He led all NHL defensemen with 68 points in 2010-11."
Lubomir Visnovsky's long wait is about to end
"Lubomir Visnovsky has waited a long time for this. When the Ducks begin the Stanley Cup playoffs Wednesday night against Nashville, it will end an eight-season drought for the Ducks defenseman. "This is something new for me," said Visnovsky, who last appeared in the playoffs with the Kings in 2002. "This time of year, I'm usually on vacation and go home to Slovakia. I would see some highlights and I would get [mad] seeing others in the playoffs." Now, he said, "I have a great feeling." The stars seem aligned as well. Visnovsky, who led NHL defensemen with 68 points, has scored 12 of his 18 goals this season in games played on Wednesdays and Fridays. If the Ducks' series goes seven games,"
Rejuvenated Visnovsky giving Ducks a jolt
"Just how much does Lubomir Visnovsky appreciate being out of Edmonton? "For the life, it's unreal," Visnovsky said Saturday. "Look at the weather every day. Look at me. I've got shorts and sandals on. In Edmonton, it's so cold right now." For the record, it was a balmy 50 degrees in Edmonton late Saturday afternoon and 69 degrees in Anaheim. But the point was made. It is nothing against Edmonton, nor is it really anything against the hometown Oilers, but Visnovsky is thrilled to be back in Southern California after being traded to the Ducks on March 3 for Ryan Whitney in a swap of puck-moving defensemen. And his new team has been the beneficiary for his renewed sense of spirit. Visnovsky,"
Newest Ducks eager to play
"Aaron Ward and Lubomir Visnovsky met late Wednesday night for dinner, and the two couldn't help but share a laugh. They had been acquired by the Ducks in separate trades earlier that day and had just landed in Southern California. Both were coming from last-place teams - Edmonton and Carolina -o a Ducks squad in contention for a postseason berth. "We joked about who had it worse," Ward said. "You get an opportunity like this, you hope you can get it and run with it and really acclimate yourself to the surroundings quickly -not rock the boat but be a contributor in the locker room." The Ducks have 19 regular season games to integrate Visnovsky and Ward onto their blue line in their attempt"
Ducks trade Whitney, boost defense with Lubomir Visnovsky
"The Ducks made a huge deal ahead of the NHL's trade deadline by trading defenseman Ryan Whitney to Edmonton for another puck-mover in Lubomir Visnovsky. It was another move by Ducks GM Bob Murray to fortify for the blue line after he acquired Aaron Ward from Carolina for a fourth-round pick that they acquired from Boston for prospect Steven Kampfer. Fresh off a silver medal with the U.S. team in the Winter Olympics, Whitney said he had heard rumors about a possible move. "I just kind of heard stuff the past few days," Whitney said. "I wasn't really expecting it, but I heard a couple of things. Obviously it's a surprise but it's a new start. Bob told me it wasn't working here." Whitney, who"
Edmonton Oilers send Staios to Calgary, Visnovsky to Anaheim
"The back end took a front seat in the Oilers trade day dealing. They traded Steve Staios to the Calgary Flames for Aaron Johnson and a third-rounder. They also traded Lubomir Visnovsky to the Anaheim Ducks for Ryan Whitney and a sixth-round draft pick. The Staios deal is the first time in recent history that the two Alberta teams have struck a deal. Staios's cap hit is $2.7 million. Before boarding a plane for Calgary, Staios said he had "mixed emotions" about going south. "I can"t say enough about my time in Edmonton. In this business you don't get to be in one place very long ... But I've been in Edmonton for nine years. "At the same time I'm a hockey player and I get a chance to compete"
Oilers Send Visnovsky To Ducks For Whitney
"The Anaheim Ducks power play is about to get a big boost from the backend as they have acquired defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Ryan Whitney. The 33-year old Slovakian blueliner has three years and $14 million remaining on his contract. Visnovsky has been one of the few bright spots in a woeful season for the Oilers. He leads all Oilers defencemen with 10 goals, 22 assists and is among the team leaders in both plus/minus and ice time. He is a smooth skating powerplay specialist who makes a solid first past out of the zone, however due to his relatively small stature, he has been a bit injury prone throughout his eight year career."
Blue-liners gear up for Vancouver
"Travel bag? Check. National team jersey? Check. NHL game face? That's the intention. Lubomir Visnovsky and Denis Grebeshkov will man the blue-line tonight at Rexall Place when the Edmonton Oilers face the Anaheim Ducks, after which they will board a flight to Vancouver. Visnovsky will play for Slovakia in his fourth Olympics. Grebeshkov, a five-ring rookie, will play for Russia. Naturally, the two were not just spectators taking in the spectacle on Friday night. Both players took in the opening ceremonies -- from start to finish. "It was good to see the Slovakian flag. I was a little bit jealous I wasn't there," said Visnovksy, who spoke to flag bearer/teammate Ziggy Palffy on the phone."
Oilers are shopping six notable players: Sources
"Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini has a major housecleaning in mind as he tries to fix the mess his organization has become. With the NHL trade deadline on March 3, Tambellini has plenty of work to do. Three league executives confirmed Tambellini has made it known he is willing to deal Shawn Horcoff, Robert Nilsson, Ethan Moreau, Steve Staios, Sheldon Souray and Lubomir Visnovsky. There is a bit of an obstacle in the way of dealing any of them, though. Their contracts make it tough to find a taker. And the players other GMs call about -- Dustin Penner, Andrew Cogliano and Alex Hemsky -- aren't available. Horcoff, who has a cap hit of $5.5 million through 2014-15, isn't going anywhere."
Visnovsky back on ice after injury
"Even with a mild spell washing over the city, it's a long way from summertime, yet the Oilers are enduring something like summer school at Rexall Place over the weekend, and putting their best face on it in the bargain. For starters, there was this to smile about on Saturday: Slick offensive defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky was zooming around the ice with ease, his sprained left ankle healed, by all appearances. "I feel good," said the 33-year-old Visnovsky, the club's top defenceman and second-leading scorer with 26 points. "If the coach gives me the chance, I will be playing next game. My ankle is good, my conditioning is better." Visnovsky, who hurt the ankle falling into the boards while"
Visnovsky out of commission
"Edmonton Oilers defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky hobbled out of the Pengrowth Saddledome on New Year's Eve, his left foot secured by a safety boot after he sprained his ankle in the first period of Thursday's game against the Calgary Flames. Visnovsky didn't make the trip to San Jose for tonight's game against the Sharks and is out of the lineup with a day-to-day injury. Ankle sprains, however, have a way of dragging on. The Oilers can't afford to not have Visnovsky, their leading point producer on the back end (26 points), and also one of the few plus (plus-6) players on the team, in the lineup. "They're saying seven to 10 (days) for now, but that's the first diagnosis," said Oilers head"
Visnovsky doesn't make trip
"Lubomir Visnovsky didn't make the trip to San Jose. The Edmonton Oilers defenceman headed back to Edmonton following the Oilers 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames Thursday, having suffered an ankle injury in the first period. "I think I twisted my ankle," Visnovsky said following the game. "It's hard to say how bad it is. I'll go see a doctor and see what they say. It's a little bit painful right now and I'll take a couple of days off and see what happen." The injury occurred in the first period when Visnovsky slammed into the end boards trying to check an opponent. Unfortunately the Slovakian native had to tough it out as the puck was in the Oilers zone and he was unable to get off the ice."
Visnovsky playing like his old self
"The shoulder has healed, and so has his head, which explains why the game Lubomir Visnovsky is now playing bears a striking resemblance to the one he was playing last season. The Edmonton Oilers' capable defenceman put in a take-notice performance against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, notching a goal and two assists in 19 minutes of work. "I feel confident on the ice now. That's important for me," he said on Friday. Visnovsky required season-ending shoulder surgery last February after which his return was slowed by some lingering rotation problems when camp opened. That was then. Now he's got nine games under his belt and no more residue to work off. "The shoulder is strong. It"
Visnovsky's huge goal
"He proved an unlikely hero on a night where the focus and accolades were justifiably on the Edmonton Oilers' new top line. But the comeback and the feel-good story would not have been complete without Lubomir Visnovsky's game winner midway through the third period. The Oilers defenceman stepped into a shot off a long rebound, and blew it by Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Mathieu Garon for the team's fifth goal of the game in a 6-4 come-from-behind victory at Rexall Place. "I was just following the play," Visnovsky said. "Dustin (Penner) shot the puck and the goalie stopped it and it went into the slot. The first guy went in and missed the puck, the second guy went in and missed the puck,"
Visnovsky expected to be ready when season opens
"There was never a doubt Lubomir Visnovsky was going to play for the Edmonton Oilers this season because it's not like he had to earn a job at training camp. The only question was when. The Oilers got some good news on that front Thursday as Visnovsky, who is coming off a shoulder injury that ended his 2008-09 season and required surgery, skated in his first full practice. With six-pre-season games remaining, Visnovsky has been cleared for full contact by team medical staff and, barring any complications, is expected to be ready for action when the regular season opens. On a morning when the Oilers trimmed 13 players from their camp roster, seeing Visnovsky on the ice jostling with"
Did Oilers sacrifice too much for Visnovsky?
"If the Edmonton Oilers could get a do-over, would they move Matt Greene and Jarret Stoll for Lubomir Visnovsky? Would they have felt the crushing need to get the pro's pro Visnovsky from Los Angeles last summer if they knew that Denis Grebeshkov would evolve into a fine puck-mover in his own right, giving the Oilers a surplus of offensive guys on the back-end? enthusiasm, not to mention his ability to play the body. In addition, they have yet to fill Stoll's role on draws, as a right-hander. He wins 56 to 58 per cent of his faceoffs. He may never be the second-line centre they thought he would be in his early days with the Oilers, when he had 68 points one season, but he can (a) play the"
