Loui Eriksson News & Rumors

Loui Eriksson no longer underrated
"At some point, Loui Eriksson can't be underrated anymore. The Stars' quiet winger keeps coming up with impressive stats that put in him in groups that can be defined as nothing but "elite" -- and every time he does, the first instinct is to say, "No way." Eriksson this week rang up his 70th point of the season. That makes three consecutive seasons of 70 points or more. Currently in that group in the NHL? San Jose's Joe Thornton, Vancouver's Henrik Sedin and Tampa Bay's Steve Stamkos."
Poll places Stars' Jamie Benn, Loui Eriksson among most underrated players in NHL
"Hockey Night in Canada joined with the NHL Players Association to do a poll of players on some key questions, and the Stars received a little love. Finishing second and third in the Most Underrated Player category were Jamie Benn (6% of the vote) and Loui Eriksson (4% of the vote). Boston's Patrice Bergeron finished first in the category with 8% of the vote. Sheldon Souray, meanwhile, finished third in voting for hardest shot with 2% of the vote."
Despite loss, Eriksson's line move helps with scoring chances
"Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro have been struggling to create scoring chances in recent games. The two veterans, who have been linemates for the better part of five seasons, have combined for 19 points in 17 games. Morrow, who led the Stars with 33 goals last season, has just three goals. However, the move of Loui Eriksson to their line created spark and scoring chances Friday against Colorado. "He's pretty easy to play with," Morrow said. "He's good in corners, and he wins a lot of battles. That frees Ribby and I up to maybe go to the net more. Gully is throwing us a bone by letting us play with him.""
Stars change lines for Ott, Eriksson to create more balance
"Dallas Stars coach Glen Gulutzan reconsidered his options and changed the plan for Steve Ott , putting him on a line with center Jamie Benn and winger Michael Ryder for Colorado . Loui Eriksson moves to a line that includes center Mike Ribeiro and winger Brenden Morrow. Gulutzan did that to get Eriksson back on the right side, where he has been effective. This also allows Ott to play on his natural left side and create more balance on the lines."
Eriksson scores twice, streaking Stars beat Ducks
"Loui Eriksson had a fluke goal 13 seconds after the opening faceoff and scored again early in the third period, leading Dallas to a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night and helping extend the Stars' winning streak to five games. Mike Ribeiro also scored for the Stars, 6-1-0 after missing the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons. It's their best start since 2006-07, when they won eight of their first nine and finished 50-25-7 before losing in the first round of the playoffs. The only other time they started 6-1 was 1996-97. Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves, giving up a power-play goal to reigning MVP Corey Perry with a tenth of a second left in the second period after"
Lady Byng candidate Stars Loui Eriksson: I want to be a leader
"It has been a heady year for Loui Eriksson. The 25-year-old Stars winger had his best season with 73 points in 79 games, earned his first berth in an NHL All-Star Game and on Wednesday will be a part of the NHL's Annual Award Ceremony in Las Vegas (6 p.m. on Versus) for the first time. Eriksson is one of three finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy, given to the player who best exemplifies the standards of "sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." Also finalists are Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and Tampa Bay forward Martin St. Louis. "Just to be mentioned with them is an honor in itself," said Eriksson in a phone interview from Las Vegas"
Loui Eriksson suffers minor injury at World Championships
"The Stars have only three regular players at the World Championships, and now all three have been injured. Loui Eriksson became the latest when he suffered a groin injury Wednesday in a 6-2 win over Team USA. But it is a minor injury and he is not expected to be out long."
Lady Byng finalists: Eriksson, Lidstrom, St. Louis
"The Lady Byng Trophy's nominees tend to have a familiar ring every year. For a trophy awarded to the "player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability," it shouldn't be surprising the Lady Byng has a penchant for repeat winners, given players tend not to alter their playing style. Wayne Gretzky has taken home the award five times and Pavel Datsyuk won it four consecutive seasons until Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis took the honors a year ago. As a result of those trends, it should shock no one that St. Louis is getting a chance to defend his title as a finalist this year -- but the two other nominees"
Loui Eriksson a finalist for Lady Byng Trophy
"Dallas Stars left wing Loui Eriksson, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis are the three finalists for the 2010-11 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which is awarded "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability," the National Hockey League announced today. The members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submitted ballots for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winner will be announced Wednesday, June 22, during the 2011 NHL Awards"
Loui Eriksson may return to Stars for Wednesday's game
"Loui Eriksson, who has missed two games with a head injury, skated Monday and is expected to take part in a full practice Tuesday. He said he is feeling better and hopes to play Wednesday in a big game against Anaheim. "I felt good today, and it was a good practice," Eriksson said. "I am going to practice again tomorrow, and we'll see how it feels.""
Loui Eriksson knocked out with injury
"Dallas Stars forward Loui Eriksson left Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks with an upper-body injury and did not return. Eriksson was injured with 16:08 left in the second period when he was hit in the head area during a collision with San Jose defenseman Douglas Murray in the neutral zone. At the next stoppage in play, Eriksson skated slowly off the ice, went to the locker room and did not return. There was no penalty on the play. Steve Ott of the Stars fought Murray 20 seconds after Eriksson's injury, and Ott received instigator and misconduct penalties in addition to a matching fighting penalty with Murray."
Loui Eriksson gains self-assurance in All-Star supply
"Confidence is a funny thing. Nobody really has to know about it but yourself. But if you do find that confidence, it's kind of hard for people not to see it. That's kind of the story of Loui Eriksson. The slick winger from Sweden struggled a great deal in his first two NHL seasons and was such a mess in the early part of the 2007-08 season that then-coach Dave Tippett made him a healthy scratch for nine of the first 14 games. However, when Les Jackson was named co-general manager that fall, he instructed Tippett to play Eriksson every game and live with the warts. And now three years later, Eriksson is one of the best players in the NHL. It's difficult to convince Eriksson he is indeed one"
Eriksson puts clinching touch on All-Star win
"It was already a big game for Dallas Stars left winger Loui Eriksson. Then he shot at an empty net, and the NHL All-Star Game was all but done. Eriksson's final shot, with 1:11 remaining in the game, gave his team -- Team Lidstrom -- an 11-9 lead Sunday afternoon at the RBC Center, and it proved to be the game-winner when Eric Staal, captain of the other side -- Team Staal -- scored the day's final goal with 34 seconds showing. Team Lidstrom then held off one more flurry and emerged the 11-10 winner. And it pulled the biggest comeback in All-Star Game history after falling behind 4-0."
Eriksson paid his dues to earn All-Star status
"Sixteen-month-old Elle Eriksson was excited to see her daddy practice Sunday morning. Loui Eriksson emerges as one of NHL's top players

Brad Richards, Loui Eriksson named to play in All-Star Game
"The NHL today announced the 36 remaining players to play in the All-Star Game Jan. 30 in Raleigh, N.C., and both Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson were named. This will be the first All-Star Game for either, and it's kind of neat they are going together. It's a surprise to many that Richards has never been named before. There are myriad reasons. There was no All-Star Game last season because of the Olympics or he would have been a lock. He also has been a slow starter in the past and has piled up his points after the All-Star Game, which allowed him to slip through the cracks a few times. He also was on a Tampa Bay team where Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis were pretty much locks to"
Role reversal has Stars' Loui Eriksson, Brad Richards thriving
"It shouldn't surprise anyone that Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson are making each other better this season. What's interesting is how they're doing it. Richards, who is known as a setup man at center, leads the Stars in scoring with 17 goals and is on pace to shatter his career best of 25 goals, set in 2006-07. Eriksson, who is supposed to be the goal-scorer, has 26 assists and is just one behind Richards' team-leading 27. "I definitely think that we're seeing more teams pay more attention to Loui and that opens up the shot for me," Richards said. "We've talked about it, and I think he recognizes that as well, and that can open up the pass for him." Richards gets a boost from being the"
Stars' Loui Eriksson moves into top 10 with 100th goal
"Loui Eriksson entered Wednesday as the No. 10 scorer in the NHL with 36 points in 34 games. That's an important step for the Dallas Stars' winger. Eriksson, 25, has quietly been moving up the scoring charts, and posted a solid 71 points last season to finish 23rd in the league. Now, after scoring the 100th goal of his career in a 5-2 victory over Montreal on Tuesday, he has entered the pantheon of a "top-10" scorer. "It's great for him, but he's not a guy who really cares about individual notoriety," Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "He's continuing to grow and continuing to improve, and I like the fact he's always pushing himself to get a little better." Eriksson said the 100th goal was"

Stars forward Eriksson finds another tool
"Confidence might have been the toughest tool for Loui Eriksson to acquire. The Stars winger has good size (6-foot-3, 193 pounds). He's a heck of a skater. He can handle a puck and shoot with accuracy and velocity. But for him to believe in those skills -- now that took a while. Eriksson is fast becoming one of the darlings of the NHL. After seasons of 36 and 29 goals, Eriksson is tied for fourth in the league with nine goals in 13 games. He ranks eighth in points at 16, and he is tied for the NHL lead in plus-minus at plus-12. And that is impressive. "He's played extremely well," Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "He's a good player. You hate to break it down to that simple of an equation,"
Eriksson scores in OT as Stars beat Devils 4-3
"It was a really nice comeback after getting down 2-0 7:13 into the game. Kari Lehtonen bounced back from a slow start, and leaders like Brenden Morrow, Brad Richards, Mike Ribeiro and Stephane Robidas really helped younger players like James Neal and Loui Eriksson step up. Loui Eriksson had two goals and scored the game-winner in overtime as he roofed a shot when he came in on a 2-on-1 and the Devils took away the passing lane to Richards. "The first one was a good job by Richie and Nealer to get the puck to net and I was there on the rebound. It was a typical Loui goal, I think," Eriksson said of a goal where he got a rebound and shoveled it in. "The second one was two against one and I"
Eriksson turns trick
"Loui Eriksson sounded a warning Tuesday when he was named to Sweden's Olympic Team for the first time in his career. Loui Eriksson pushes the puck past the Ducks' Bobby Ryan. Eriksson totaled seven shots on goal and had five other attempts that missed the net for the Stars, who have won back-to-back games for only the third time this season.
